Why Teresa Anne Mckeon chose Kippford
Dorus Mhor is a much loved family home where we have enjoyed long holidays for many years. The view of the Solway coast from the house and garden is simply breathtaking, and that was what we fell in love with first of all. The house and mature gardens have oodles of character, and it is a peaceful place, where you can easily forget that you have neighbours at all. So it is secluded but not isolated.
What makes this House unique
Jubilee path is a driveway which becomes a path leading to spectacular walks to Rockcliffe, Sandyhills and Colvend. The house sits high on Jubilee path and commands views of the Solway Firth, Screel Hill and Rough Island. The gardens are extensive and well cared for.
No smoking inside the house

So good we didn't want to leave!
We booked for a 3 night stay and at the end wanted to stay for longer as we fell in love with the house and had such a relaxing and memorable time. The house definitely has its quirks but it's full of character, has boat loads of space and the living room is so cosy with the fire lit and lamps on in the evening - the photos don't do it justice! There are a huge variety of games and films to choose from and the views are just amazing, the terrace is so peaceful to sit and look out at the estuary and mountains and it's completely private - our little niece loved the tree swing and seeing the rabbits and red squirrels that live around the house! There was no downstairs toilet and the plumbing required some pre-planning but apart from that you can't fault it it had everything you could need and more. There was a bad review left from the last person that stayed and we have to say since our trip that we completely disagree with the comments made, we had a brilliant time and had already started talking about when we could come back again on the first night, thank you so much for a wonderful trip :)
The property was far from what we were expecting
Clean ? well yes... but a very run down property in our opinion, not easy to drive up to the house ,when you got to the top ,the driveway was all dug up with barrier tape tied to plant pots, not a very good first impression and not very safe for young children either. The terrace at the front of the property, where apparently you can sit with a glass of wine and drink in the view, well I have thrown out better patio furniture. I wouldn’t let our cats sit on it and to call it a terrace in the first place is a stretch to the imagination. Also too many overgrown trees and bushes to let you have a decent view of the estuary. The lounge furniture isn’t as shown on the website, the sofas were grubby with throws or blankets on the seat cushions , didn’t look under them so not sure if they were on there to stop you getting any more marks on them or whether they were hiding a multitude of sins. Loads of lights with the light bulbs not working. Now to the bedrooms, the front bedroom with two single beds has a built in wardrobe, I challenge you to hang more than one item in it. It was full of spare beds nothing could be hung up , everything had to be in drawers, plenty of those though. The garden is just so neglected it wasn’t a pleasure to walk around and quite dangerous in parts. So, would we stay here again, most definitely not , would we recommend it to anyone ... no never.
Comfortable home in beautiful setting
'This is just like visiting your Granny' said one of our party. Ok, this house is not luxury nor modern but just as he said, it's quaibt with slightly dodgy plumbing, bathroom suite in shades of pink and loads of family photos on the walls. But just like your Granny's house it is clean, comfortable and spacious and you just want to curl up on the window seat with a good book or watch the seabirds through the binoculars provided. The sun trap patio is a godsend at the end of the day once the kids are asleep, with a wee glass of wine or a cold beer.
Great value for money. Thanks to Teresa for giving us the best short break.
We loved our stay!
We’ve just returned from a wonderful week in Dorus Mhor with our daughter and her family. The house belonged to my husband’s parents over 40 years ago and it was good to see that not much had changed. It is a perfect location if you enjoy peace and quiet, nature and wonderful views. There are lovely walks to be had locally and much to explore further afield. We would thoroughly recommend Dorus Mhor but not too much as we would like it to be available for our next visit!
Family break in Kippford
Superb property with beautiful views. Easy and efficient communication with the property manager. Exactly what we wanted, thank you!
Lovely house in stunning location.
This house was a great place for us and our three grown up daughters to have a few days of peace and as a base for exploring Dumfrieshire.
It is wonderfully quiet and the garden is frequented by local wildlife including red squirrels and many species of birds.
The area is lovely with walks on the shore and into the countryside minutes away.
There is an opportunity to make it absolutely perfect if the plumbing were updated.
We enjoyed our stay enormously and would recommend it to anyone.
Kippford has two bar/ restaurants and a little shop selling some food, coffee and limited groceries.
