The house, about 80 m2 is on one level, located on the first floor, offers two comfortable and spacious bedrooms of about 20 m2, large living room with satellite TV, large living room with fireplace, kitchenette, bathroom with shower and washing machine. Guests will have access to the entire spacious apartment. Nice and panoramic south-west facing balcony with a very pleasant view on both the mountains and the sea. Access to the house is independent. The apartment is located in the center of the village, near a minimarket and a bar.
To reach Castoregio, the small village of the high jonio, from the Ionian state road 106, coming from Amendolara or Roseto Capo Spulico, follow the directions for Castroregio, then take the state road 481 and follow it for about 10 km then follow the signs to Castroregio turn left and go up the provincial road 155 for 9 km. To reach Castroregio, the mountain road has several bends and turns.
Castroregio (Kastërnexhi in Arbëreshë) is a small village of culture and language "Arbëreshë" with just over 100 inhabitants, where customs and traditions have been preserved to this day.
The village, well located, enjoys an extraordinary 360 ° view, ideal for spending periods of extreme relaxation, also given the almost total absence of cars in the village. The village enjoys an excellent cool temperature during the summer. Visiting Castroregio you will find that the air you breathe, besides being clean and genuine light, is magical, sometimes surreal, as if time had stopped. Recommended for families and children for the tranquility that the country offers, but also for all those who wish to have a few days of complete relaxation. Ideal also for sportsmen thanks to the air quality that offers both the country and the majestic forest and for lovers of good food. In particular, the excellent quality of the air allows to better oxygenate both the body and the mind, thus obtaining greater strength and vitality. Walking along the main road that leads to Castroregio at sunset, it will be easy to meet the animals of nature, such as squirrels, hare, hedgehogs and foxes. In the village you will also find an old oven where you can enjoy freshly baked bread, the typical and tasty red pizza and many other typical products. Near the bakery, in Via Montegrappa, there is a characteristic restaurant and bar called the "Tana del Lupo" where you can taste the excellent typical local specialties, such as rascatielli, excellent fresh pasta made at home by Mrs. Luisa. Outside some seats with a panoramic view of the valleys surrounding Castroregio will be the setting for a dinner that meets the tastes and flavors of those traditions that Castroregio preserves preciously. Reservations are recommended.
Very impressive is the Mother Church "Madonna della Neve" of the seventeenth century of Greek-Byzantine origin located in the upper part of the village. Going down you can visit the Chapel of San Rocco also of Greek-Byzantine origin.
Following the provincial road 155 for about 3 km you reach the forest where there is the characteristic Chapel of the Madonna della Neve surrounded by green trees. Here you can admire the megaliths coppellari of Neolithic age.
A few meters away you can visit the inside of a pond that totally drains in the summer months to reach a few meters of water in the winter months.
From the pretty village of Castroregio you can reach the beautiful forest in less than 5 minutes, take long walks, breathe a clean area among pine and oak trees. Tables, barbecues, fresh spring water and other conveniences are available for pleasant picnics.
In 20 minutes you can reach the clear waters of the sea of Amendolara, Roseto Capo Spulico and Trebisacce for the fourth time the Blue flag. Thanks to its excellent position, on clear days, it is possible to enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the Italian heel and the numerous villages that surround it. At about 20 minutes drive you can visit Oriolo, a small medieval village where you can visit the Castle and Palazzo Giannettasio. About an hour and a half drive from the Sassi di Matera, UNESCO World Heritage Site, designated European Capital of Culture 2019.
On 18 August we celebrate the Madonna della Neve in the Castroregio wood with its procession around the Chapel, in the afternoon the Madonna is brought by a crowd of believers in the village to be brought back to the Forest Chapel in May.
On August 19, San Rocco is celebrated, patron saint of the town. The faithful participate in a very felt auction in the square in front of the church of San Rocco, where gifts are offered to the saint.
In the afternoon at 17:00 there is a procession that starts from the Chapel of San Rocco, through the alleys of the village and then return to the chapel. The whole procession is accompanied by the sound of the characteristic musical band.
