About Chris and Donna Hyche

A lifetime Alabama resident, I grew up enjoying the Alabama Gulf Coast and enjoy sharing this beautiful area with others. As a sales professional in the industrial marketplace, I spend a lot of time behind the wheel and have found few places like Bon Secour. Donna has worked as an educator for over 30 years and the peace and quiet of this area is a welcome reprieve to hours in the classroom.

Chris and Donna Hyche purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Chris and Donna Hyche chose Alabama Gulf Coast

Growing up vacationing on the Alabama Gulf Coast, we discovered this area in the 1960's. My family purchased a cabin in the Bon Secour area in 1985 and have come to treasure the peace and quiet this community affords. Whether its sitting on the pier and watching the dolphins and pelicans at play or walking down to Billy's Seafood for steamed shrimp fresh off of the boat, it is safe to say there is no other place quiet like the Cottages at Bon Secour. While we hope to one day retire to this area, we are now content to share our secret with those who also appreciate this unique riverfront lifestyle.

What makes this cottage unique

The proximity of the Gulf Coast beaches and excellent seafood serve as additional benefits to the peace and quiet of this area. When you have had all of the sun, sand and people you can handle, our place provides the ideal setting to relax and unwind.

House was described correctly. Very clean and owners were great. Fishing right across the street was fantastic off the dock. We caught 35 fish. Try some Royal Reds if you can. They are the best. Nello

Hytide Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This property was exactly as portrayed. It was quiet, had the fishing pier, which my husband enjoyed, and was not that far from the main beach in Gulf Shores. Another plus was the fresh fish available just down the road. You could walk there if you wanted. I would definitely stay here again!

Definitely the best kept secret!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, who is not a beach fan, loved my next best option and I did too! Not only was the home decorated extremely well it was clean, airy, quiet and it had anything you could have possibly wanted or needed so if you forgot something it wasn't a major meltdown if you could not get to the store immediately. This was the most relaxing vacation my husband and I have ever had and the best part was we could bring along our dog. We had the best of both worlds here! The beach was a short drive, less than 20 minutes so I could enjoy my fun in the sun and then at night and the mornings we were able to sit out in the swing on the dock of Bon Secour River and either unwind or wake up. My husband went to Wal-Mart and got his saltwater fishing license and fished right off the dock beside our cottage. Oh and we got to learn a little about crabbing as well. Chris and Donna were the most gracious of hosts and I would highly recommend them to anyone. This has been our BEST vacation by far and we have taken 2 a year for the last 6 years and we owe it all to Chris and Donna and HyTide.

Relaxing. ..off the beaten path.

Our stay was very relaxing. The location is quiet and tranquil, but close enough to the beaches and shopping.

Relaxing Stay away from it all

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at this cottage. It was extremely clean and the decor was awesome. We had everything we needed and the owners could not have been more accommodating. We will definitely come back and hopefully be able to stay longer than a 3 day week end.

I would recommend this cottage to anyone, any age.

Gulf Shores beaches

Bon Secour is a very Southern gothic, picturesque place, with huge water oak trees covered in Spanish moss, great blue herons, brown pelicans, ever present bottle-nosed dolphin pods and the potent smell of salty gulf waters everywhere. The local commercial fishermen that make their living from the Gulf are no less salty but also friendly. Other than the relatively small, family owned, seafood processing plants, Bon Secour is primarily made up of many rural neighborhoods, most of which enjoy beautiful vistas of the Bon Secour River and Bon Secour Bay. Brown Pelicans are everywhere and locals often see alligators from time to time, plying the waters of the estuarial system from the head waters of the Bon Secour River to the bay. One can see baby bottle-nosed dolphins playing near the mouth of the river at any time. In Bon Secour one can catch bass, bream, fresh-water catfish, then travel a few miles down river, to the bay and catch all manner of salt water fish, shrimp, and oysters in the same day
