About Rochelle D. Ventura

I am a retired former City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles employee who moved to this area at the age of 6 during World War II. I grew up in the area and raised my son and daughter in this house. Over the years I have collected sculpture and art from California artists which is displayed in the house.

Currently, I live with Phil half time in San Jose and half time in this house in Los Angeles. The house is listed for rent during the times we am not in Los Angeles.

I have studied architecture and design and frequently travel abroad to check out cities throughout the world.

I love this area and am happy to share my home with visitors to Los Angeles. Everyone seems to like it a lot.

Rochelle D. Ventura purchased this house in 1971

Why Rochelle D. Ventura chose Los Angeles

My home was built in 1929 in the older Spanish Revival style architecture. You will enjoy staying here if you prefer an older home with spacious rooms and unique architectural features.

I purchased the house from the original owners in 1971 so I am only the second person to own this house.

Over the last 44 years I have lovingly restored the house, retaining almost all the details and finishes that make it special while, of course, adding electric outlets, wifi, modern appliances, central heat and air-conditioning, etc. The house has its original hardwood floors, original toilets (without tanks) and lots of storage.

I added the front courtyard in 2001 after seeing the famous patios in Seville, Spain. Everything in the courtyard is authentic to the period of the house. The fountain (turned off for now because of the drought) was built from tiles copied from those in the Santa Barbara courthouse. The pavers are "Rue 71" a reclaimed street I purchased in Europe and had shipped to Los Angeles. The beams in the covered dining area were stenciled by a painter that used to work in Barcelona. The courtyard has been a favorite area for outdoor dining for many of my former guests.

What makes this house unique

The unique benefit of this house is its location. LACMA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, is within walking distance, as are the Peterson Automotive Museum and the Arts and Crafts Museum. The Original Famers Market and The Grove are also within walking distance in the other direction, as are the convenient Trader Joe's, Whole Foods Market and CVS Drug Store. You can walk to public transportation and connect up with the Los Angeles subway system. You can walk to the pick up points for the ON OFF bus and several other sightseeing buses.

The house is very spacious and comfortable. I provide plenty of paper supplies, and you are welcome to use my tea, coffee, condiments, oils, saran and foil, etc.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Rachel and her family were the perfect long term guests. I would recommend them to any VRBO host.

The house is a beautiful and charming Los Angeles property.

We had a great stay at Rochelle's house. The property is a terrific size for a family, and it is conveniently located near several restaurants and L.A. landmarks such as LACMA and the Farmer's Market. During the warm summer nights, we often ate in the courtyard, which is a delightful element of the house. We would gladly return!

The property was exactly as it was described.

A short walk from The Grove for dining and shopping. Located in a nice residential area. The homeowner was always available if we had any questions. We felt totally at home. Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Great house!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Rochelle's house. It is a charming Spanish style property; clean, spacious and Rochelle couldn't have been more helpful. The house is in a good neighbourhood, central to everywhere we wanted to go and close to some lovely shops and restaurants. Check out the Grove! Highly recommended - a lovely stay!

Beautiful home and great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Rochelle's home for my daughter's college graduation, and it just could not have been better! The home is absolutely beautiful - our jaws were on the floor for the first hour after we arrived. Rochelle has everything you could possibly need in a home away from home, and she's very available for any questions or concerns. You can walk to The Grove for some good food, drinks and fun, and walking around the beautiful neighborhood is also a great activity. We had a mini-family reunion, so having us all under one really nice roof was just great! You can't go wrong staying here - I know we'll definitely be back!

A Gem in LA!!!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home is filled with charm and character, and is in walking distance to great restaurants, shops, grocery stores and The Grove. The courtyard is delightful and the perfect place for morning coffee or a pleasant evening dinner. The home covers the 3 C's: Charm, Clean (very), and Complete (an abudance of supplies, towels, kitchen tools,etc.). Finally, the owners are considerate of their guests and very accommodating. A true gem in the heart of LA!!!

Wonderful house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

My family and I felt so lucky to have found this house for a holiday visit to LA. From the moment we expressed an and after we booked, we found the owner helpful and thoughtful about making our stay comfortable and hassle free. So I was not at all surprised to arrive at this property that is even more lovely in real life than in the photos. This home is well cared for and simply lovely. The area is a quiet neighborhood in walking distance of the LACMA and La Brea Tar Pits. The Pederson Auto museum and Grove and Farmer's Market are also close by. And of course everyone drives in LA and so this property is a short drive to just about everything else. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
