Overview

About the property

Beautiful 3 bedroom property with inglenook fireplace and heated outdoor pool.

Plantagenet Cottage is unique, charming and hidden away on the outskirts of a picturesque Kentish village.

The cottage views overlook the Eastwell Manor Country Estate which is all located within the stunning Kent Downs area of outstanding natural beauty.

**NEW - from April 2018 we are able to offer our guests use of the Champney's Spa facilities at Eastwell Manor - including Indoor & Outdoor Pools, 9 Hole Golf Course, Tennis Courts, Gym, Workout Classes etc. Please ask us about it if you'd be interested **

The cottage dates back to the 16th century when originally built as a one-room dwelling by Richard Plantagenet, a natural son of King Richard III [the one they found under the car park in Leicester], so our Richard was, in theory, the last in the bloodline of the Plantagenet Kings of England. It's a fascinating story and you will find plenty of information about this in the cottage.

We sleep 6 people [possible 7th/child] across 3 luxurious bedrooms - in fact the entire detached property has been recently refurbished to a very high standard providing all modern amenities and comfort whilst maintaining the cottage's rustic charm and historical value.

The large living area has 2 comfortable sofas, a 40" plasma smart TV with Netflix, Amazon / iPlayer etc. It also has a large inglenook fireplace - lovely cozy log fires in colder climes. months.

The dining area has a table seated for 6 people below a vaulted ceiling with a gothic arch looking out to the garden.

There is also an office space with network ports and printer and USB charging from most rooms. There is a fully equipped kitchen with new appliances in a handmade wooden finish. And a bathroom with bath, shower & toilet - and it has a cubby hole [with parquet worktop] inside a recently exposed old fireplace.

The garden wraps around the property and has a park like feel with lots of well established trees & shrubs. Lots of space for kids to play .. we even have 'Teletubby' mounds! There is a BBQ and outside seating areas.

A definite highlight in warmer months is the outdoor heated swimming pool which is in a walled area in a sunny corner of the garden. POOL OPEN BETWEEN APRIL TO SEPTEMBER - exact date is weather dependant.

Our cottage really is a delightful spot that we think has a lovely relaxed feeling and good atmosphere.

About TIM & MAITE

We are a small family from North London with two daughters. We like cooking and eating delicious food, sunshine, music, gardening, and being outdoors. It's great doing those things at our cottage when guests are not enjoying doing it there themselves !

TIM & MAITE purchased this cottage in 1999

Why TIM & MAITE chose Ashford

We fell in love with the plot - its secluded away from the main road and you wouldn't even know its there, plus the amazing history with Richard Plantagenet.

Beautiful property, a very enjoyable stay!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, it really felt like a home from home. Every need was catered for and the beds/duvets were very comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend and would certainly stay there again. It is surrounded by beautiful grounds and on a sunny day you could just sit round the swimming pool - perfect!!

Only a 20 minute drive to Canterbury (which is beautiful!)

Owner's Response: Thanks for the lovely review Nicole - we're pleased you discovered the wonderful nearby city of Canterbury and that you had great weather to enjoy the pool this late in the season. I find the garden possibly at its most beautiful in October with all the variety of colours as the leaves turn. One of the beauties of The Garden of England :-) Please do come back another time, you'd be most welcome.

Comfortable, interesting house and beautiful quiet shaded garden

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a family group (generation range grandparents to 2-year old granddaughter, plus family dog) for 6 nights. The beautiful summer weather meant that we were able to fully use the wonderful large garden including the pool and barbecue. It is a quiet and peaceful location. The beds are very comfortable and the large living/dining space was ideal for family meals and so on. Amongst the local trips we made were Whitstable, nearby walks on the Kentish Downs, the pub in Wye, and the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch railway. A great short break and a location that suited us ideally.

Ideal place to enjoy and relax in the Garden of England

  • 5 of 5

The whole family enjoyed the stay at Plantagenet Cottage: the very well equipped house, the pool, the garden, the space to play outside. We all had a great time to relax and enjoy our vacation time.

Owner's Response: Hi Anne - thanks for your nice review and for the very kind private message. We are glad you and David thought our cottage was lovely and that you particularly loved the garden! Oh, and please thank your two dogs too for leaving 'Thank You Woof Woofs' :-) And no bother about leaving 4 stars instead of 5 - in some ways our 5 star track record has sadly been broken . . . but knowing you guys thought we were 5 star really is good enough for us.

So much charm and endless details

  • 5 of 5

I am a Luxury travel agent. That, in itself, sums up my expectations when I rent a home. This cottage delivered beyond expectations.

It is lovely, out of a fairy tail, and everything is thought of in details. All the way down to foreign plug converters.

Being 15 mns from the Eurostar Ashford stop made it a perfect stop in our European Journey.

Tim and Maïté are very responsive and full of resources.

We will certainly be back in the summer to enjoy the pool !
