Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Coos Bay - Bay Cove Cottage A

Clean and cozy, 550 sq. ft cottage with kitchenette, laundry, view from patio.

Bay Cove Cottage A is one side of a rustic 1940s cottage duplex. It is a clean and cozy, brightly colored, 550 sq ft apartment with one bedroom and a fold-out couch in the living room. The kitchen and bathroom with shower are simple, and retain original vintage character. There is no stove or oven, but a microwave, skillet, a portable single burner rangette, for preparation of simple meals, and a small refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The vintage bathroom is small, with no tub and the shower has a small entry (16 inches wide). We are offering the cottages as the budget option of Bay Cove properties and offer few amenities. Cable TV is provided, wifi is available throughout, there is a full-sized refrigerator with ice maker, and a coin-operated laundry service in a separate room in the duplex. Cottage A is the side of the duplex next to Cape Arago Hwy, and has more road noise than Cottage B. There is no bay view from the apartment, but a small backyard and a small patio with fire pit are available for a spectacular view of the bay and Charleston harbor. A laundry room with tall table and chairs offers great bay views while enjoying coffee or a glass of wine, when the weather is not suitable for patio use. The owner's residence is nearby, on the same lot as the cottages, and may also be rented. We can direct you to easy bayshore access that requires a 500 foot walk along Cape Arago Hwy., or other easy bay access for clamming or crabbing within short driving distances.

About John and Candy Chatt

We are a retired couple, John a federal wildlife biologist, Candy a swim coach and airline employee, and both former Nebraska farmers.

We consider ourselves adventurous, spontaneous, budget travelers and love meeting new people to share travel experiences.

Why John and Candy Chatt chose Coastal Oregon

We have lived in the immediate area since moving to Coos Bay from Corvallis in 1999. We recently moved into a home that we thought would be a perfect place to share with others in beautiful Charleston, on the southern coast of Oregon. We enjoy outdoor activities, birdwatching, hiking, kayaking and just observing the wonders of nature.

What makes this cottage unique

We felt fortunate to happen across this wonderful part of our country, the best overall climate we have ever encountered, fresh air, and plenty of room to wander to our heart's content, without the hustle and bustle found in so many other places. We love the diversity of habitats in the area and the associated diversity of bird species that are regularly seen. The views and solitude of walking on a private beach provide a never ending source of enjoyment and relaxation. We felt even more fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire additional similar property within 500 feet of our home. We always considered this property as having great potential as a vacation rental, and now we are trying to make that dream come true.

Great Property

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed the cute little cottage. This is the best stocked vacation rental I've ever stayed at in 30yrs. Owner is so nice. Beautiful view in the back yard. We used their crab traps, ice chest, buckets, and oars to go crabbing. Kitchen well stocked with every small appliance you would every need. Lots of small touches that made the home special. Plan on staying again.

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cottage to get away for out one year wedding anniversary. John was very nice, we did not meet Cathy. The cottage was very clean and cute. Had everything we needed even loaner crab traps as we did not remember to bring ours. We had an awesome fresh crabs and fresh veggies we brought from our garden dimner that we cooked on the grill and boiled the crabs out in the crab pot near the grill. Great place, great people that own it. We will be back :) Marsha and Dave- Grants Pass, OR

Great place for the family

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's first visit to the Oregon coast. John and Candy had everything we needed at the cottage. We had a fire in the backyard and made smores while watching the sunset over the bay! We caught crabs with the gear on site and were able to cook them out back. Close to do many beaches I cannot count all of the ones we visited. John have us tips to go crabbing and clamming. When we go back we'll stay here again!

Perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

In spite of their JohnCandy@gmail moniker, our night spent welcoming in the year 2016 was not a page out of the movie 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles'. The cute cottage we stayed in had all the amenities of home and was centrally located for our visit to beautiful Sunset Bay State Park and the holiday lights at Shores Acres. The rental was clean and comfortable. John & Candy made sure everything was perfect for us. We'll be back!

Cute Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had the chance to stay in Coos Bay. Cottage was cute and quaint. Only downside is room "A" was right next to the road that links Charlestown to Coos Bay so bring some ear plugs. Ear plugs were perfect for me and I slept soundly.

Great Sushi bar up the road. The owners were very welcoming and that was also a bonus. Would stay again!

...Let me begin by saying what I meant as a good review has come off as a negative experience which is not at all true. My dates were wrong. When I looked back over the emails I was one day short. Really Me, wrong? yep. I wrote to the owners after I'd posted my review about it. With communication we may have caught it sooner. I appreciate you allowing us to stay that extra night. The Bathroom was small but adequate for us. As an Occupational Therapist my perspective on things may be on function. We lost wifi signal a few times, but none of those things took away from the comfort and security of the cottage. I would recommend the cottage. John and Candy I wish you continued success.

We love the breathtaking views in the area, including from our small patio. Charleston is an authentic fishing village and the entire area remains an unspoiled gem on the Oregon Coast. The area is a bird watching paradise for shorebirds and seabirds, as well as other species in the diverse habitat in the area. Harbor seals and sea lions are abundant and easily seen throughout the area. Whale watching is popular from several scenic points along Cape Arago Hwy, and the Shore Acres Formal Flower Gardens and holiday light display, scenic coastal hiking trails, and tide pools, are popular attractions, along with spectacular wave watching during winter storms. Our location is on on the bay near the beginning of the South Slough National Estuarine Reserve, and we can assist you with advice, maps, and tide info for a great kayak adventure into the Slough. Enjoy a relaxing golf game at nearby Sunset Bay Golf course (7 minutes away) or travel 19 miles to the world famous Bandon Dunes courses. Crabbing and clamming is available from the docks and the mudflats, and we would be glad to to provide a crab trap or a bucket and shovel for clamming along with a few pointers, and maybe even a demonstration to get you started.
