Being a resident in the beautiful state of Alaska for over 34 years, having lived in remote areas for several of these years as a teacher and "adventurer", I settled in Anchorage and have enjoyed the central location for the ease of traveling, hiking, fishing, and the Arts.
Shirley Nelson purchased this studio in 1996
Nice sunny exposure with views. A unique "FIND" with character.
The original house was built in 1950 on a large lot. It's prime location to business, recreational activities, and shopping, make it a 'jewel' in the heart of Anchorage. Literally, a 2 minute walk to Chester Creek Trail, where you may see the Bald Eagle perched on the birch limb just a few feet away. Continue east to Sullivan Sports Arena and various lakes, or head west to hook up with the Coastal Trail.
The 'studio 'and garage were constructed in 2007, snuggled in the back of the property with a small forest on the south border, a peaceful habitat for our local moose to relax and the birds to gather.
A QUAINT Neighborhood.
Shirley's property was perfect for our quick stop in Anchorage over Labor Day weekend. We stayed one night on our own and a second night another couple stayed with us. Shirley had set the fold-out sofabed up in advance for us and the place was a great size for all four of us to stay. The deck was wonderful to sit on in the morning to enjoy coffee and in the evening to enjoy a drink before heading out to dinner. It was an easy 20-25 minute walk to downtown (or a very quick $5-10 cab ride). The apartment was very clean and cozy, the neighborhood was quiet, and the yard was lovely (we even found a few raspberries lingering on her bushes). We had a great stay and if we make it back to Anchorage we would definitely stay here again!
The house is very cozy, the neighborhood is quite. Shirley helped make my dream vacation become everything that I wanted it to be. Shirley is very knowledgeable about Alaska and it's history. Her dog Andy become my new best friend. I would recommend Blue Sky Haven to everyone.
The property was extraordinary! It was very clean and cozy. Shirley was a great host. Close to downtown as well.
My family of 3 very much enjoyed staying in this peaceful, spacious place with decks and windows on every side! It was wonderful to wake up looking at tree tops through the windows, I felt like we were in a treehouse! It is sooo much better than the stinky little hotel room we stayed in before we left. Room to stretch and relax on the upper decks. Great location. A great place to start our vacation before picking up our RV and seeing the state! Fabulous owner, very warm and informative. A great place to stay, will recommend, and would definitely come back! A great place to start a fabulous time in Alaska!
What a lovely setting. We totally enjoyed our stay and got to know Andy too! Everything was clean, well appointed and just as the pictures suggest. A moose appeared in the yard one evening, the raspberries were ripe and great with our breakfast, and the views were gorgeous. We loved every minute of our stay and the central location made it very easy for us to find our way around. It was very relaxing. We would recommend this "jewel" to anyone planning a trip to Anchorage. Sally
We loved staying at Blue Sky Haven. Shirley was so nice and such a personable lady. Her studio was very accommodating, clean, and felt like a home away from home. The location of the rental was ideal. It is in the middle of town and in a very quiet neighborhood. We have already recommended this place to friends and family and would stay here again in a heartbeat.
