About Shirley Nelson

Being a resident in the beautiful state of Alaska for over 34 years, having lived in remote areas for several of these years as a teacher and "adventurer", I settled in Anchorage and have enjoyed the central location for the ease of traveling, hiking, fishing, and the Arts.

Shirley Nelson purchased this studio in 1996

Why Shirley Nelson chose North Star

Nice sunny exposure with views. A unique "FIND" with character.

What makes this studio unique

The original house was built in 1950 on a large lot. It's prime location to business, recreational activities, and shopping, make it a 'jewel' in the heart of Anchorage. Literally, a 2 minute walk to Chester Creek Trail, where you may see the Bald Eagle perched on the birch limb just a few feet away. Continue east to Sullivan Sports Arena and various lakes, or head west to hook up with the Coastal Trail.

The 'studio 'and garage were constructed in 2007, snuggled in the back of the property with a small forest on the south border, a peaceful habitat for our local moose to relax and the birds to gather.

A QUAINT Neighborhood.

Very good

Everything was great, Shirley was so helpful. Our only struggle was not having coverings over the top windows for sleeping. Would definitely recommend to others.

an excellent spot for exploring in and around Anchorage

  • 5 of 5

Shirley is a very congenial, friendly, and helpful host. The rental is above an unattached garage, so our coming and going was not a disturbance to either of us. It is an excellently maintained and set up rental, ideal for a couple or a small family. We walked to explore downtown ( be sure to go to the museum), walked the coastline trail and walking paths, then drove easily to the Kenai peninsula. We had a great time and would definitely return to stay there (next time a longer visit).

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay at Blue Sky Haven. It was delightful meeting both of you and I truly appreciate the fresh halibut from your sister in Cordova. I sent her a thank you note and she responded with a nice and brief update on their history in Cordova and our mutual friends. Please visit again. Shirley

My wife and I had a great stay in Anchorage. The suite was open and spacious. Great deck space. Shirley was very friendly and asked multiple times if there was anything we needed. She also gave us tips on where to go and what to see.

This place was great for us for our 12 day stay in Anchorage. We did not need a car as we like to walk and use public transportation.

We walked to downtown, to the Moose's Tooth, to movies, and grocery stores. The bus can be accessed at any of several stops that are within a 5 - 10 minute walk.

Shirley is wonderful, she had suggestions of places to see, places to eat, things to do. She is a long time Alaska resident and is familiar with many areas in the state.

We would definitely stay there again.
