ALAMEDA I - sunny 4-bedroom apartment in central, modern Lisbon
If you prefer to stay away from the crowds that flood historical Lisbon, especially in the summer, why not book this 4-bedroom apartment, served by metro (2 min away) and plenty of buses? Actually, you’re very close to downtown Lisbon and its bustling streets - about 10 min. by metro. But you’re also quieter and closer to a contemporary Lisbon with lots to see. So, make the most of an apartment that’s sunny, colorful and very friendly. It includes a lovely patio adjacent to the dining room where you can relax and watch your children play.
Colorful might be the best way to describe this apartment as all the bedrooms and the sitting /dining room are bright and multicolored. The furniture is light and comfortable. Cushions, chairs and bright fabrics brighten up the atmosphere of an apartment with a lovely outdoor patio furnished with chairs, table and a parasol to protect you from the sun. All in all, a very friendly place to stay.
The building is located in a residential area dating from the 1930s and 40s, when the city expanded to areas where, earlier in the century, some Lisbon families still had their country homes!
Located in Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques (the metro station is called Alameda) you’re close to the historical center (10 min by metro, 30-40 min on foot), but also close to a different, modern Lisbon. A Lisbon made of Art Nouveau buildings, of 30’s and 40’s architecture, of wide avenues and great shopping (try Avenida Guerra Junqueiro or Avenida de Roma). Not far away is what might well be Lisbon’s most multicultural neighborhood, where national families mix with Indians, Chinese and people from the former Portuguese colonies. A great place to see a different Lisbon, enjoy world gastronomies and stroll in safety.
If you take the metro, in 10 min you’ll be at the world famous Gulbenkian Foundation with its beautiful museum and famous concerts. Do spend some time there. Its architecture, beautifully landscaped gardens and cafeteria are definitely worth a visit. A bit further away, to the south of Lisbon, is Belém with its many museums, Jerónimos monastery, Tower of Belém, the President’s residence and the beautiful Ajuda palace, where you’ll always find fascinating exhibitions.
All in all, in this quarter you have it all: a taste of modernity yet close to historical Lisbon.
Being in central Lisbon and taking the metro from Alameda station you’ll reach most Lisbon neighborhoods in about 10-20 minutes. For example, you’re 10 min from Meo Arena in Parque das Nações (which hosts major international pop and rock concerts) and the airport; you’re about 12 min from Rossio , Lisbon’s main square (and also the train station for Sintra) and 15 min from Cais do Sodré train station (for Cascais and Estoril). Aristocratic Chiado and wild, urban Bairro Alto are only 15 min away. Martim Moniz, only 4 stops on the metro, is the nearest metro station to catch the world famous 28 tram. Buses are plentiful and very close by.
