About Judith W. Fossel

I live next door to The Barn in another post-and-beam barn, with my cats and dogs. Have lived in Maine for 35 years, but am originally from Wisconsin

Judith W. Fossel purchased this farmhouse in 1981

Why Judith W. Fossel chose Boothbay Harbor Area

My family moved from Connecticut and purchased an 18th century central chimney colonial home, with almost seventy acres of woods and fields, on this property in 1981. The house later burned down, and I converted and moved into the new post and beam barn across the street. A year or two later I built another post and beam barn nearby (the rental property).

What makes this farmhouse unique

Dog friendly. Barn sleeps up to twelve; ideal for several couples or families. Would also be ideal for wedding parties and guests (there are a number of beautiful wedding venues nearby.) Family reunions welcome.

Great for large group

  • 5 of 5

We went to Maine for our son's wedding. The whole family traveled from Florida to Maine. At times we had 11 people in the barn, plenty of space for all. Outside there is lots of room for the kids, with toys and balls in the carriage house. As you see in the pics there are alot of games to play and we had a great time with those. The bedrooms are spacious, bedding nice. The bunkroom/loft was a great hit with the younger ones.

The barn is in a great location, removed, but within easy driving distance from Portland, the coast, even Acadia(but start early for that one, not to be missed). Many good places to eat. Everybody wants to know, where's the best lobster roll? Had about a half dozed, all good, our best was Trevett Country Store. Whole belly clams were very good too.

Back to the Barn. We have been using VRBO/Homeaway for many years now. This was without a doubt one of the best places we have stayed. The Barn is well laid out and the construction is impressive. Judy, the owner, is right next door, but not intrusive. She was very, very nice and addressed any concerns very quickly. We may never make it back to Maine, but if we do, I know where we'll be staying.

Thank you Judy!

Ideal accommodations for our family of 7.

  • 5 of 5

Judy has created a home away from home for guests that stay at The Barn. She has thought of everything. A great place to enjoy indoor activities with family (our favorites were the chalkboard, the open space for charades and board games and making blanket forts in the loft) and outside space for rambunctious kiddos and great reading books.

Alna is picturesque and provides a sanctuary of sorts - early morning fog, birds, sun - peaceful coffee conversations.

We will be recommending The Barn to friends and family and look forward to another stay.

Couldn't Have Been Any Better

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to say thank you for the most amazing New Year's Eve we've had in a while. Every member of our group loved your barn and it was absolutely stunning. It's so clean, impeccably kept and the fact that we could bring our dogs made it even more luxurious. As dog owners we often find ourselves renting places that are less comfortable so our dogs can tag along--this is not the case with the barn.

Everyone was comfortable and we have already talked about coming back. From the moment we walked in the barn door and saw our welcome sign and names on the chalkboard wall, to the Christmas tree, to the champagne and doggie treats and the chocolates in the refrigerator, we felt like we were staying at a five star resort. The surrounding fields and nature trails provide the exact Maine experience we were looking for. Thank you, thank you for such a wonderful stay. You absolutely went above and beyond and we will not only be back, but we'll be recommending your location to everyone we know. See you again soon.

Awesome Christmas 2015 Family Weekend

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful Christmas our family enjoyed together! "The Barn" was very easy for us to access from both VT and NH. The accommodations provided a very 'homey' atmosphere with just the right amount of space and were perfect for our large family. Loved the layout ~ provided everything we expected and then some! Walking trail on the back property and a trip to LL Bean in Freeport were a couple activities we enjoyed, as well as playing games and just enjoying family time together. We would highly recommend this vacation home to anyone looking for a great "home away from home". You do not need to bring anything with you except food. "The Barn" is very clean and well maintained and is decorated with the theme of Maine throughout with books, pamphlets and maps of the area. A great place to visit and experience a big part of Maine. On our way home we enjoyed breakfast at the "Miss Wiscassett Diner" ~ definitely recommend this diner for their food and hospitality. We hope to be able to come back to "The Barn" sometime again and take in some of the great things in the area that we missed and did not have time for.

Thank you owner, Judy!

Beautiful rental

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks here and had a great time. The property is just as advertised - very nicely decorated, comfortable beds, a/c. And the sunsets are amazing. Judy did a great job as owner and was friendly but not intrusive. The property is around equidistant from Wiscasset and Damarascotta - two neat coastal towns. Pemaquid Beach is a bit of drive but well worth it! We would highly recommend this property.

Nice mid-coast converted barn

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay. Converted Barn has everything one could need. Made good use of the game room and the local Alna store down the road (for pizza, biscuits, etc). Judy gave great advice on Puffin tours, whale watching, etc. Rental is well located for day trips up and down the coast. Be wary of the Wiscasset tourist traffic though! Overall, highly recommend.
