About Judith W. Fossel

I live next door to The Barn in another post-and-beam barn. Have lived in Maine for 36 years, but am originally from Wisconsin

Judith W. Fossel purchased this farmhouse in 1981

Why Judith W. Fossel chose Boothbay Harbor Area

My family moved from Connecticut and purchased an 18th century central chimney colonial home, with almost seventy acres of woods and fields, on this property in 1981. The house later burned down, and I converted and moved into the new post and beam barn across the street. A year or two later I built another post and beam barn nearby (the rental property).

What makes this farmhouse unique

Dog friendly. Barn sleeps up to twelve; ideal for several couples or families. Would also be ideal for wedding parties and guests (there are a number of beautiful wedding venues nearby.) Family reunions welcome. The Barn is available for longer term or school year rentals during the off-season at a reduced rate. Please inquire. Alna is a school choice town. THERE IS NO LEGAL RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT IN MAINE SCHOOL CHOICE TOWNS.For more information contact the State Dept. of Education online or the Superintendent of RSU #12 at 207-549-3261.

Perfect multi generation vacation

  • 5 of 5

Judy provides everything you can think of and some things you didn't think of to make your vacation simple and relaxed.

The layout of the house is perfect for the variety of ages we were vacationing with. There was a loft space with beds that our grandsons, ages 11,9,7 and 4 loved. Judy has tons of games and play equipment that kept the boys entertained. The kitchen is well equipped and we had most meals at the Barn.

The hammock chairs on the porch were a hit with both adults and kids. The location was quiet but allowed us to take trips during the day to various attractions and then return to enjoy our time together.

We have done a number of home away rentals and this was one of the best. Thank you, Judy!

Roomy barn/home offers alot!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week at The Barn just last month! We were pleasantly surprised with the roominess and openness of the house and the comfy furniture. We had 9 of us in the house for a couple of days and we all literally could sit in the living room/dining room and converse as one group. The best part of the home was the screened in entry to the barn! If only I could build one in my backyard at home! We sat out there at night with cocktails and had early morning coffee most days as well. It was a great place to relax without skeeters bothering you! And the breeze flowing through was calming and cooled us off. The beds were super comfortable and the bedrooms provided enough room to move about. Three kids enjoyed the loft area all to themselves. There wasn't anything lacking (well....some little plates for appetizers possibly) in the kitchen. We bought lobsters, mussels and clams a few times during the week and cooked them in the kitchen. Plenty of cookware and crackers and pickers for seafood was available. We enjoyed one evening of game playing but mostly we went out and about during the day. The guys enjoyed a deep sea fishing day for Mackeral. They caught 63 in a few hours and brought back enough for us to grill out that night at the barn and enjoy. We visited and shopped in East Boothbay, Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Portland and Freeport. We went to Pemaquid Beach and fell in love with the soft sand and quaintness of the beach area. We went sailing out of the Portland Yacht Club one day and saw seals swim up to our boat. We found a new restaurant in Brunswick called Joshua's and loved it. Something very different. I've vacationed in Maine since I was a teenager, nearly 35 years ago, and return often to bring my young boys up to visit and enjoy the area. Judy was nearby but we rarely saw her, however, she was right there via a quick text or phone call if we needed her. It is a very quiet area with plenty of room to move about. House had all amenities that we needed. We were able to do laundry before we left. So nice to come home and just have to unpack! I will certainly recommend The Barn to my friends and fellow travelers. Thank you Judy for the wonderful home you have to offer!

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a nice getaway with my extended family, traveling in from the Midwest and New York. Trying to find something cost-effective in the middle of the summer that was also close to the water was especially difficult. But Judith's was absolutely wonderful. She had the perfect accommodations for three families with three small children, and it's great for short day trips to the lake or the ocean, and all the things in between. Our boys spent most of their time running in the yard, and we celebrated two birthdays with a dinner in the barn. The area is beautiful and so many of the mid-coast treasures are within a short driving distance. Thank you again for a great stay!!

Conveniently in the middle of nowhere!

At Judy's place you get the privacy of being in the middle of nowhere with the convenience of being close to so many things--the beach, the lake, a charming village. The Barn is beautiful and so well appointed. Thank you Judy for a wonderful stay!

Great for large group

  • 5 of 5

We went to Maine for our son's wedding. The whole family traveled from Florida to Maine. At times we had 11 people in the barn, plenty of space for all. Outside there is lots of room for the kids, with toys and balls in the carriage house. As you see in the pics there are alot of games to play and we had a great time with those. The bedrooms are spacious, bedding nice. The bunkroom/loft was a great hit with the younger ones.

The barn is in a great location, removed, but within easy driving distance from Portland, the coast, even Acadia(but start early for that one, not to be missed). Many good places to eat. Everybody wants to know, where's the best lobster roll? Had about a half dozed, all good, our best was Trevett Country Store. Whole belly clams were very good too.

Back to the Barn. We have been using VRBO/Homeaway for many years now. This was without a doubt one of the best places we have stayed. The Barn is well laid out and the construction is impressive. Judy, the owner, is right next door, but not intrusive. She was very, very nice and addressed any concerns very quickly. We may never make it back to Maine, but if we do, I know where we'll be staying.

Thank you Judy!
