Perfect location for an Amalfi Coast villa experience.
Our family had the perfect location for an Amalfi experience. This villa is perfect for couples or a family. It comes exactly as advertised, with no surprised. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was a gift on a hot summer vacation. Christina met us with the key and assisted us with questions upon arrival.
Conca dei Marini is the perfect village to stay in; public beach (beware no washrooms -really! You must pay to sit at a restaurant to use their toilet - two choices for this. There are two change rooms beside a free shower), also a choice of private sea terrace Capo di Conca (we preferred due to washrooms, shower, space and food choices), walking access (up about 100 stairs) to a market for your grocery shopping needs and walking access to beautiful terrace restaurant - Bonte dei Capo, (this became our nightly go to with a diverse Italian menu, gorgeous décor, appropriately priced and friendly staff and owner Antonio), also easy boat taxi for day trips to Amalfi, (7 Euro's each one way) Positano (20 Euro's each one way) (these visits towns are much more crowded with tourists - lovely to visit and return to quiet). We also day tripped to Naples Archeological Museum followed by Pompeii - hired a driver for this. No matter how prepared you are, you are not !, for the just under 600 (560 - we counted - it is not 400! ) stairs to the Conca dei Marini beach/boat access. Still we knew this was coming and enjoyed the challenge as part of the experience. Our week stay was perfect and if you are looking for a beautiful villa with all amenities, this is a great one.
Only one warning - Christina requested 400 Euros in cash as a security deposit when we met and received the keys. We assumed a security is part of our rental, have never been asked for cash exchange through a VRBO rental and were caught off guard by this request. This should be made more clear in the rental agreement - which we reviewed and found no mention of it anywhere, including communications with Christina prior.
We absolutely loved our stay here in Conca dei Marini. Cristina was very accommodating and helpful both leading up to and throughout our stay. The home was very clean and well equipped. To say that the views from the patios were wonderful would not be sufficient. Next time we bring our family back to the Almafi Coast, this is exactly where we will stay. Thank you again Cristina!!!
Stunning View and Great Location
Overall we loved our stay at Villa del Capitano! The villa looks exactly as shown in the online photos we loved the blue & white decor with the backdrop of the picturesque sea. We found Conca dei Marini to be the perfect location between the various towns on Amalfi that we wanted to explore: Ravello, Sorrento, Positano, etc. so it was conveniently situated.
Because there were 7 adults for 1 week with only 2 bathrooms, it was a little tough because we were only given 1 towel each, and the bathroom and bath mats got pretty dirty quickly. I didn't think to ask prior to arrival but it would have been really great to have a mid-week cleaning service and towel refresh - we would have even paid for it if it had been offered!
Also, we did not realize that we had to go out to the store to buy our own toilet paper and laundry detergent (some was provided but not enough for the whole week). That could be a little inconvenient for some if you have excursions booked all day because the nearby store has limited hours.
All in all, we loved our vacation!!
Property was spotlessly clean and of a very high standard.
We very much enjoyed the villa, although it is a little tricky to access (you must park your car a short walk away up very steep and narrow alley ways. The daily charges are 18 euro which would add up however we were told by the locals that it was off season so not to bother paying, we did so and it was no problem. I would recommend that the faint of heart use the local bus service rather than drive as the hairpin corners and narrow roads are challenging to say the least. The villa is well situated to travel to Amalfi , Positano and Pompeii. Cristina the rental agent was very helpful and is quick to respond to any questions by text. We spent a day on the beach however it is over 400 steps down!! Dont forget the sunscreen!!! The surrounding views are breathtaking and the water clear and warm.
Amazing view, large rooms and very safe !
Very very nice and clean !!!
Still waiting for my security deposit after almost 4 weeks - very unprofessional
The villa was lovely although the kitchen was pretty inadequate for entertaining!!
Refund for the security deposit is taking a long time!!
BEACH OF MARINA DI CONCA - Nestled in a beautiful stretch of the Amalfi Coast, between cliffs that descend to the sea, dotted with picturesque villages clinging to the cliffs and Unesco World Heritage site, the beach of Marina Di Conca is accessible by two staircases that descend from the SS 163, near the ' Hotel Belvedere. It is a beautiful and picturesque pebbly beach, overlooked and surrounded by rugged vertical cliffs. The sea is beautiful, turquoise, crystal clear and transparent, with gravel and waters rich in marine life, ideal for lovers of swimming and snorkeling, making sure the entrance into the water. On the beach there are three good restaurants where you can taste local specialties based on fresh fish. From here, you can also arrange boat tours or transfers by water taxi to Amalfi, Positano or Capri.
EMERALD GROTTO - 5 minutes drive - Located not far from Amalfi, in the charming bay of Conca dei Marini, 1,5 km from the Villa, the Emerald Grotto (Grotta dello Smeraldo) is one of the gems of the Amalfi Coast. Well-known in the 19th century, the grotto was somehow forgotten and only re-discovered in 1932 by a local sailor, Luigi Buonocore. The grotto was named "Emerald" for the incredible colors that filter from an underground opening and fill the cave with intense nuances of green. The inside of the cavern is filled with stalagmites, stalactites and strange "work of arts" created by time and nature.
The Emerald Grotto combines the characteristic of an inland grotto with those of a marine grotto. Until 6000 years ago (yesterday, in the geological timeline) the grotto was not submerged, and the slow incessant dripping of drops of water created the stalactites and the stalagmites. Then the level of the sea raised, and the grotto filled with water. The grotto is home to an underwater nativity scene, made ceramics artisan from nearby Vietri in 1956. Since that time, divers from all over Italy come to pay a visit to the Holy Family at Christmas, a very special procession to behold. The Emerald Grotto can only be visited on a boat. You will be taken in a rowboat that hosts more or less 20 passengers and given a tour with a guide. You can reach the grotto either by sea in a ferry, by renting a boat at any of the ports along the coast, or by car/bus. You stop at the facilities on the main coastal road and reach the departure point by way of an elevator or along a panoramic stairway. We recommend visiting in the early afternoon, between noon and 3 o'clock, to enjoy the best possibile light. The facilities are open daily from 9.30 am to 4 pm, the entrance ticket to the grotto is 5 euro (times and price can change without notice).
AMALFI - 10 mins - Amalfi is one of the pearls of the south Italy, the biggest city of the Amalfi Coast, the oldest Marine Republic of Italy, and today it represents the most attractive city with Positano of the entire coast in Campania. The singular architecture of white houses of Amalfi, the good climate for almost the entire the year, make it a destination for thousands of Italian tourists and foreigners. Amalfi is a town of about 7000 inhabitants, rich in history and art, which gives its name to the homonym Amalfi Coast, famous throughout the world and since 1997, a World Heritage Site UNESCO. Visited by more and for its beauty, Amalfi is a valid target also for gourmets and gourmands, where they were invented the "cannelloni". Its foundation goes back to the Romans; from the ninth century, it was the first of the the Marine Republics and rivaled Pisa, Venice and Genoa for the control of the Mediterranean Sea. Traditionally, each year a crew of rowers participate in the Regatta of the Ancient Marine Republics challenging the arms of the city of Genoa, Pisa and Venice. Among the most famous monuments of Amalfi there is certainly the Duomo in Arab-Sicilian style and now dedicated to St. Andrew, patron of the city. There are other attractions, intended for adults and children or for lovers of trekking and nature in general, the paths with breathtaking views that once connected the Amalfi Coast with the rest of the world.
POMPEII RUINS - 1 hour drive - Pompeii was a Roman city. Now it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On 24 August, 79 AD, a volcano called Mount Vesuvius erupted and destroyed the city and its people, killing 2,000 of them. Pompeii is now considered one of the world's most important historical sites because of the way the volcanic ash preserved the city and its people. This gives historians and archaeologists a vivid picture of life in the Roman Empire around 2,000 years ago. Archaeologists have found graffiti written by the people who lived in the town. People often wrote on walls, and archaeologists have been able to read some of what they wrote. Pompeii is an interesting attraction for tourists from around the world and is visited by 2.5 million people every year.
