You already know that Reed's Island is the absolute best address in Hilo There are houses ( nice ones ) listed here for rent and getting great reviews. But do you really need to spend $ 400 to $ 600 per night to stay here? - if you are only a couple that is way more than you need to spend for a wonderful experience.
Although this apartment is attached to a larger house, it is NOT a private room in a house. It is a completely independent and separate private apartment which shares nothing with the main house - it has a totally separate and private entrance. Has its own private large bathroom and kitchenette. There is no part which is shared with the main house. This B&B is newly on the market, all new construction, and a Terrific location - check it out.
The space is 520 sq ft in size, with a new queen size bed. There is air conditioning in the bedroom if you need it - seldom required in Hilo. The kitchen area is a kitchenette, no full size oven and full size rangetop - but rather a compact rangetop, a convection oven, toaster, blender, full coffee grinding and preparing gear, an outdoor propane grill, full size refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. Really everything you will need. There is a clothes washer and clothes dryer. There is a large HD TV, with cable and streaming Netflix and Amazon movies. WiFi internet.
Reeds Island is the best location in Hilo It is where the Hawaiian royalty chose to live - our street, Kaiulani St, is named after princess Kaiulani who resided here. It is also where the wealthy landowners of old Hawaii chose to live. It is very private and secluded, cut off from the rest of Hilo by being on an Island in the Wailuku River. The road is a dead end, so traffic here is very low. It is totally surrounded by thick jungle - you cannot see any of Hilo and hear nothing but nature sounds. And yet - it is so close to old downtown Hilo that you can walk there if you wish, in only 15 minutes (3 minutes by car ).
Our apartment is the only rental that we have. It is newly constructed, on the ground floor attached to our home. Your door opens directly to view the primary lower waterfall on the Wailuku River, just downstream from the famous Rainbow Falls. This waterfall is directly outside of your door, about 50 feet below the apartment - gorgeous!
Business professional. Long time Hawaii resident -very familiar with most of Hawaii.
My wife & I were on the East Shore for several nights and selected this property as our home base. We were both glad that we did. From the welcome sign upon our arrival...to the goodies in the fridge...to the fresh coffee beans ready to grind in the morning...to the beautiful view...to the nice neighborhood the property is located in...We came away with nothing but positives.
Our ultimate barometer for a property? Would we rent it again...A definite YES in this case.
What a wonderful place to stay! Wonderful welcome food, washer and dryer, well appointed kitchen and amazing location by rainforest river and waterfall! Host gave us excellent recommendations for things to do then gave us privacy. We will rebook whenever we are back in Hilo!
This was our last airbnb/vrbo stay, and it was the perfect way to end a stupendous month on the Big Island. With the sound and sight of the waterfalls and rapids of the Wailuka river JUST below the patio, in the "jungle" foliage, we were relaxed, but reluctant to leave on the last day. The owner has provided everything necessary for a short or long stay in this marvelous little apartment. It is so close to Hilo's downtown that one could walk if so inclined. Thank you for all your effort in making our trip memorable...we will certainly recommend this spot!
We found this apartment to be clean, comfortable, quiet, and scenic.
