You already know that Reed's Island is the absolute best address in Hilo There are houses ( nice ones ) listed here for rent and getting great reviews. But do you really need to spend $ 400 to $ 600 per night to stay here? - if you are only a couple that is way more than you need to spend for a wonderful experience.
Although this apartment is attached to a larger house, it is NOT a private room in a house. It is a completely independent and separate private apartment which shares nothing with the main house - it has a totally separate and private entrance. Has its own private large bathroom and kitchenette. There is no part which is shared with the main house. This B&B is newly on the market, all new construction, and a Terrific location - check it out.
The space is 520 sq ft in size, with a new queen size bed. There is air conditioning in the bedroom if you need it - seldom required in Hilo. The kitchen area is a kitchenette, no full size oven and full size rangetop - but rather a compact rangetop, a convection oven, toaster, blender, full coffee grinding and preparing gear, an outdoor propane grill, full size refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. Really everything you will need. There is a clothes washer and clothes dryer. There is a large HD TV, with cable and streaming Netflix and Amazon movies. WiFi internet.
Reeds Island is the best location in Hilo It is where the Hawaiian royalty chose to live - our street, Kaiulani St, is named after princess Kaiulani who resided here. It is also where the wealthy landowners of old Hawaii chose to live. It is very private and secluded, cut off from the rest of Hilo by being on an Island in the Wailuku River. The road is a dead end, so traffic here is very low. It is totally surrounded by thick jungle - you cannot see any of Hilo and hear nothing but nature sounds. And yet - it is so close to old downtown Hilo that you can walk there if you wish, in only 15 minutes (3 minutes by car ).
Our apartment is the only rental that we have. It is newly constructed, on the ground floor attached to our home. Your door opens directly to view the primary lower waterfall on the Wailuku River, just downstream from the famous Rainbow Falls. This waterfall is directly outside of your door, about 50 feet below the apartment - gorgeous!
Business professional. Long time Hawaii resident -very familiar with most of Hawaii.
The unit is well situated, comfortable and well equipped. The hosts added a special touch by providing coffee, fresh jelly, eggs, orange juice,etc..
My wife and I enjoyed our stay. The owners are very nice. The view is amazing and we enjoyed breakfast each morning on the patio overlooking the waterfall. Would highly recommend this property.
This basement walk-out is in a very quiet neighborhood and has a stunning view of the river right off the lanai. It is close the downtown Hilo and the ocean, and a good base for the many attractions in the Hilo area. The apartment was clean and well-appointed and the owners graciously left us eggs, English muffins, butter and jam! This apartment is great value for the price.
This is a fabulous rental. The location on a river with waterfalls, with no neighbors was delightful. I appreciated the privacy. The owners who live in the same building with a separate entrance were careful not to intrude on me during my four week stay. I appreciated finding juice, english muffins, guava preserves and eggs awaiting me in the refrigerator. The apartment was neat, clean, and well furnished. I would definitely return to the hospitality Gary and Vanessa provided me.
Gary and Vanessa have put together a wonderful little get away spot, and have enhanced it with outstanding hospitality. The sound of the river below the lanai is hypnotic, and the setting is idyllic. The apartment is stocked with breakfast stuffs, and the coffee is freshly ground and heavenly. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
Absolute stunning view and location - right on the river with the lovely chirping of frogs and the sound of water falls. Easy walk or drive into downtown Hilo - all in a nice neighborhood. Lots of space and a comfy bed, although an extra blanket would have been nice. Kitchen spices and cooking utensils only so-so but nice to arrive to the fridge stocked with eggs, muffins, juice and jam.
Never met the owners nor did we see any sign of them maybe just their over friendly (and noisy! ) kitty waiting to be fed !
