If walls could talk you'd hear tales of the lives of multiple children who once lived here. Scattered about the globe now as young adults, their stories of love and joy emanate from the art and artifacts that adorn this home as it awaits your visit and a host of new adventures.
Our family moved to Green Lake in 1992 and was comprised of biological and 'chosen' children who all attended Princeton schools. Now grown and living in different parts of the world, they often speak of the day when they can return to Princeton and revisit the home on the lake they shared with us. Until they do, the house begs to be filled with noise, adventure and fun to add to its history so we invite you to come fill this lovely space, create new memories and leave behind record of stories of your own.
Dyan Oliver purchased this house in 1992
You'll love this property because of its unique spaces, convenience and FUN! It offers the best of both worlds...for the outdoor enthusiast, the artist and creator, and those who love to simply sit and relax. From its beams to its floorboards, it's no stranger to activity, but has fresh decor and amenities that make it lively and comfortable. On its acre of land you'll enjoy gardens, watch humming birds outside the kitchen window, revel in the majesty of the abundant bald eagle population (there was once 7 sitting in the tree outside!), see the sunset from the dock. Just an amble down the gradual hill, you'll find the lakeside cottage, cheerfully appointed with comfortable seating and two changing rooms, to be the perfect spot to BBQ, entertain, watch the fire pit and keep an eye on the kids. Shallow entry into 110' of shoreline makes for easy access to the lake. Close proximity to Princeton and Cambridge allows for the occasional quick convenience trip, dining, shopping, or access to fun, local events.
This property is unique in its construction, history and decor. While offering the usual 'lake cabin' opportunities and amenities, there is something special about its quiet energy. Solid cedar and sturdy, it can withstand the wear of tromping feet, or appeal to the eye and demeanor of the artist or muse. On the main floor you'll find BR1, the kitchen, full bathroom, the LR and dining area with a full wall of south facing, oversized windows that provide an excellent view of the lake and lots of bright sunlight. You'll also find a wood burning fireplace and access to an outdoor deck that overlooks the lake. Up the circular stairs you'll find the loft with its baby grand, sofa and television. Along the hall there are four bedrooms and an alternate entry/exit to the house. BR2 sports a full/twin bunk. BR3 has a double futon/twin bunk. BR4 (master bedroom) has a king size bed and windows along the eaves for serious moon gazing. BR5 offers a full wall view of the lake....best for listening to the call of the loons and other charming lake critters.
We had a great weekend with 10 people. Used the pontoon, kayaks, and paddle boards: it was great and a huge plus to the property.
The rooms and beds were comfortable, and the open layout and multiple living rooms provided a opportunities for different activities.
Getting was easy as was finding the house.
A great experience overall!
We had an amazing Labor Day weekend here!
Pros: A bunch of them. To list a few, the house was spacious with a great view of the water and was very accommodating for adults and children. The boathouse deck is a nice place to hang out and grill. The grounds are quiet and peaceful. There is a lot of outdoor space. The deck by the main house is also a nice place to gather. The lake view is great. The pontoon was the star of the weekend. The lake is big and nice to cruise around. Caught some panfish and northern. Many loons and bald eagles spotted. The owners were very accommodating, responsive, and lovely to work with. The list goes on . . .
Cons: Very few. No sand beach. Water was a little green. Milfoil and water access made it hard to swim at the property. The boat house is more for storage than anything else; than actually being something to hang, play or sleep in. On the windy side of the lake, but this is also a pro in that there were no bugs and the breeze was nice. It would seem a majority of these cons were due to the time of year we rented.
Overall we would definitely recommend this property, and hope to come back in the future. Great rental! Thank you so much for the memories!
This was a very convenient lakeshore location within easy reach from the Twin Cities. We were able to accommodate 6 adults, 2 toddlers and 2 dogs with relative ease. The location was quite and somewhat rustic with wonderful lake views. The pontoon and other water equipment provided fun recreational activities. There were excellent opportunities for our dogs to walk and even wander briefly off leash. All in all, a very good long weekend trip
Our family had a great time in this place. The house is very well stocked with all necessities and more. This is really appreciated because we have rented much higher-end properties in exclusive areas that are virtually empty of any household items. We were glad to see that the owners of this property trust and invite guests to come in and feel right at home, welcoming the use of all house amenities. The grand piano was a great surprise to our daughter who loves to play! The interior is cozy, artsy, eclectic and fun! We enjoyed catching fish on the lake and watching eagles. A great place to stay and have a relaxing getaway. Thank you for offering this wonderful property for others to enjoy!
Beautiful property with house situated right on Lake. Backyard ran down to waters edge with a dock to use. Loved that we were able to pay a little extra to use pontoon boat, what a blast! The separate "pool" house near the waters edge had a great deck for hanging out and grilling. The house had ample sleeping space with 5 bedrooms, the one bathroom was nice and the kitchen, while small, was well equipped for any cooking needs. We had a great weekend, the only recommendation I would have would be more comfortable couches in the sitting areas. Aaron and Dyan were super easy to work with and very accommodating! I would stay there again.
A group of us (3 families) recently stayed at this lovely home on Green Lake. We had a soccer tournament in the Twin Cities but did not want to just stay at a hotel...so glad we made that decision! It was an easy 45 minutes to the Cities. The setting could not have been nicer, the home is in great shape, and access to the lake for swimming, pontoon boat rental, and fishing kept the kids entertained for hours. We had a few minor glitches and the home owners could not have been more responsive and quickly resolved these small issues. It was also extremely hot weather during our stay, so the A/C was a great amenity! We also thought the one bathroom might present a problem, but that too worked out just fine.
I would recommend this place to anyone. We'll be back next year for sure!
Beautiful Green Lake is situated almost midway between Princeton and Cambridge providing convenient access to modern amenities while still retaining that private, small town feel. Approximately 1/4 mile south of Hwy 95, go south on Nacre, then left (east) onto 337th Lane NW(dead end). You will find the location convenient to gas stations, liquor store, bait shop, and convenience store, even two municipal airports should you choose to fly in! Dine at the Pine Brook Inn with its reputation for excellent food, imbibe at the Hi-Way Inn-known as the go-to spot for homemade pizza, bingo, meat raffles, Keys for Cash event and Friday night karaoke. Take a short, lazy canoe ride between the banks of the gorgeous and serene Rum River running between the two towns, or extend your adventure for a leisurely meander along its 151 mile course. The area is rich with arts and crafts, making the home a perfect getaway for weekend retreats and workshops. Be sure to stop by the Saturday Farmer's Market for delicious local products, check out the new Central MN Art Co-op in Princeton with its classes and gallery boasting fabulous local talent, and don't forget to treat the kids to a visit to the local splash park followed by a stop at Santa Lucia's for homemade ice cream. If you are hardy enough to choose a February stay during our MN winter, be sure to plan your visit to coincide with either the annual Mora Vasaloppet (a 3,000 participant cross country skiing event held less than 30 miles away) or the Princeton Lion's Club Annual Fishing Contest held right out front of the house on Green Lake (oodles of prizes). Whether as a skiing/fishing participant, or a spectator, you'll surely enjoy the activities and have plenty of stories to share with your less adventurous friends when you get home!
