About Jerry Eulentrop

My wife and I, along with our 6 children, live year-round right next door to this property. I grew up enjoying the recreational benefits of the river and we were able to purchase our current residence in 2006 and moved to our newly constructed home in 2010.

Jerry Eulentrop purchased this cabin in 1954

Why Jerry Eulentrop chose Missouri

My father bought the property in 1954 and while our permanent home was in the northwest suburbs of St. Louis I grew up boating, skiing and fishing on the river. There is much history and many great stories (many actually true!) and when you come stay be sure to ask me for a few. In Linus's 60 years on this part of the river he became much beloved (by most anyway) and certainly left his mark on and in the river (as evidenced by a truck that is still sitting at the bottom of the river). We hope you'll forge indelible and fond memories as we share a place that holds innumerable memories for us.

What makes this cabin unique

There is something captivatingly tranquil about a large majestic body of water gently flowing by. It allows you to release a huge sigh, relax and let the cares of the world roll off. So, kick off your shoes and relax, or go out and cut loose on any of the many recreational activities the river affords. But come and enjoy a good time at Linus's Clubhouse!

Wonderful, relaxing river retreat

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a nice, relaxing Labor Day weekend at this lovely, cozy, river retreat. It has everything you need. If you don't want to leave, just bring food. If you don't want to cook, Troy is about 20 minutes away and has several restaurants to choose from. If you like a scenic drive, take 79 to Louisiana and Hannibal. Rich in history and beautiful views.

Jerry, Wendy, and their children are a wonderful family. They give you your privacy, but are always accommodating if you need anything...just ask

I highly recommend asking Nathaniel for a coffee cake, it's delicious...and so are the cookies!

Thank you for a wonderful weekend, if you'll have us, we will surely visit again. I would love to see the view from the veranda full of fall foliage!

God Bless,

David and Rachel Shelton

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Our family consciously looks for views of nature around the area in which we stay, and this house did not disappoint! Waking up to the Mississippi River never got old, and watching the barges pass through was super cool too. The interior was very well-maintained and clean, with a beautiful kitchen, neat bedroom and bathroom, and even had games which the kids enjoyed. We got to meet Jerry and his family who were very pleasant, and Nathaniel baked us the most amazing coffee cake, which my family finished within a day! All in all, we were very happy with our stay and would like to come back without a doubt.

Perfect Mississippi River Hideout

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Clubhouse twice, for five nights in June and a few weeks later for six more, as we couldn't really get enough of it. It is such a great place, full of character, casual and comfortable in every way. Jerry and Wendy and their fine family are perfect hosts, always immediately responsive if anything was needed but totally respectful of the privacy we were hoping for. We spent many hours on the big terrace overlooking the river, enjoying the tugboats and barges passing on their way to or from the locks, watching the weather and light change, soaking in the majesty of the Mississippi and calling Chloe (their great dog) up the stairs for a visit. We cooked inside or grilled on the Weber nearly every evening as the Clubhouse is definitely away from it all, which is what we were looking for; but as other reviewers have said, it's near enough to O'Fallon and St. Charles for anything one might want to have or do. We drove to Hannibal, a town we love, for Tom Sawyer Days, and although it was rainy, had a wonderful day. We often spent nights in the comfy living area watching movies rented in Winfield, where there is a good grocery store (County Market) on Hiway 47. No review of this home would be complete without mentioning the home-baked chocolate chip cookies waiting for us on arrival that are so good we ordered two dozen for a family get-together from the baker, who is one of Jerry and Wendy's sons.

And now the real truth: I didn't want to write this review at all because I want this gem of a hideout to be available on our future visits to St. Louis! Thanks, Jerry and family, for sharing this lovely place.

Much more than we expected!

  • 4 of 5

If you love to watch the tugboats and barges on the mighty Mississippi, (and we do) this is the place to be! The accommodations are clean and the owners are very hospitable. We had everything we needed. Our mornings and evenings on the veranda were very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed seeing the sights around St Louis/St Charles. We got plenty of exercise climbing the stairs, but it was well worth it for the view. It was a very pleasant experience and we hope to come back some day.

Really nice!!!

  • 5 of 5

Jerry met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the place. He and his wife, family and doggy we all very nice. They were just next door but we had complete privacy. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Chloe (doggy) even came over one morning for coffee and playing fetch in the Mississippi beach. The view was remarkable and so so relaxing.Loved watching the Mississippi Barges go by also. The Cabin is great and would highly recommend to anyone coming to the area. It's remote, but only about a 5 minute drive from Winfield and 25 minutes from St. Charles. We visited St. Charles, Hannibal, Augusta and various vineyards and small towns in the area. St Louis was also a great time. It's a beautiful area!!! Everyone we talked to was very welcoming and pleasant. Again, will highly recommend to anyone for a relaxing stay.

Turkey Island down river...need a boat
Car: necessary

A beautiful spot on the Mississippi immediately south of the Winfield Lock and Dam #25 with great fishing and boating, or just relaxing. Winters include tremendous opportunities to watch the eagles with direct views to an eagle sanctuary. Views of the Illinois bluffs change with the seasons, but come alive vibrantly with an explosion of autumn colors.
