This 800 SF house sits on a hillside overlooking downtown and several mountain ranges. It is within a mile of downtown and its restaurants, shops, galleries, etc. It is walking distance to WNMU, libraries, museums, and the courthouse. It is one of three houses on a 2 1/2 acre parcel that straddles the city limits. The house sits back off the street and is backed by a wooded canyon full of wildlife. The east side of the house is on the edge of a hill, and the deck and master bedrooms have commanding views over hundreds of square miles. The house is private and quiet, with views of city lights at night to the east and dark star filled skies to the west. We see deer and quail regularly on the property, as well as over thirty types of birds. Javelinas, raccoons, foxes, and even a coati mundi have visited from time to time.
The house is an adobe that a mining family built. The house was extensively remodeled in late 2014 by the owners, who operate another very popular VRBO house as well. It has oak hardwood floors throughout the living and bedroom areas. The kitchen has granite tile counters and a large eat at counter. The bathroom is luxurious, with marble counters, slate flooring, and a multiple-setting showerhead. The bedrooms have brand new beds--a queen in the master and a full in the second bedroom--and feature fabulous Egyptian cotton sheets, warm blankets, and soft comforters. The kitchen is equipped with everything we could think of so that we could cook there just like at our own house, with all utensils, coffeemaker, microwave juicer/blender, toaster, etc.--and all of it is brand new, not our old extras or leftovers. The kitchen counters and the dining area counter are done in beautiful granite tile. We provide toiletries to get you started in case you forgot something, as well as coffee and creamer, sugar, spices, and many more items that will last you through a short stay or get you off to a good start if you are staying with us longer. The deck has tables and chairs and a propane grill for barbecuing. There is a flat screen tv with better than basic cable, wifi, and Netflix. The living room also has a high quality sofa. We can provide a crib upon request. Works by local artists adorn the walls.

The owners are a recently retired professional couple who have lived in Silver City since 1988. When this property came up for auction in 1996, the owners saw it's potential because of its unique setting and location and bought it. The owners live in one of the three homes on the property and are there if you need anything, but also respect your privacy and space. The houses are set apart from each other, adding to the feeling of space and privacy.
Gloria Harwood purchased this cottage in 1996
Our property is close to downtown, yet feels so quiet and rural. Because of how close our hill comes to downtown, we are less than a mile up the street, but we are zoned rural. The three homes on this property sit on a large parcel for being this close to downtown, which gives them privacy and peace and quiet that can be hard to find this close in. The hillside setting provides great views day and night. If you like walking or mountain biking, the house is the closest in town to the Boston Hill trailhead, which is .3 mi. uphill and leads to miles of trails through city open space. There is also a running/walking track at an unused stadium 1/2 mile from the house that has amazing views east and west since it sits almost on the continental divide.
No other property has the combination of views and country setting with the convenience to downtown and all its attractions. In addition, this house is extensively remodeled, luxurious, and all new. The pictures speak a thousand words. It is a great value, provided by owners with a proven VRBO track record.
We were very impressed with this cottage. It was very clean, very comfortable beds, had everything you might need and the view is awesome! Only wished that my too small dogs would have been allowed to stay at the cottage since they are my children and that meant they had to stay behind. Would stay at the cottage again!!
This cottage was a real sleeper! Looks nice on the outside, but even better on the inside! Super clean, and plenty of room. Loved it!
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this property. Gloria, the owner met us as we arrived. She was warm , friendly, and very accommodating to all our needs. A bottle of New Mexico wine awaited us upon arrival. This was a pleasant surprise that we both enjoyed greatly. This property was what I would call luxurious. This newly remodeled property had all the bells and whistles. All the amenities were fresh and new and well appointed. Great care was taken by the owners to make this property very special. To top it off the New Mexico weather was fantastic. Looking forward to making this run next year and plan on staying at this property if it is available. Word will get out about this great property and it will get harder to book. Our hat goes off to Gloria and Charles. Take care. Darvel and Darlene
You will love this home if you love the mountain air, vistas of the mountains surrounding the home and the modern country charm.
Keep up the great work Gloria and Charles!
From start to finish, this property is so refreshing! All the little details of the house and property made for such a wonderful stay. Gloria is so welcoming to our family, we felt like we were home. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in Silver City! God Bless.
Silver City is an old mining town with plenty of charisma for such a small place, and the cottage we stayed in overlooking the city was equally charismatic. Very quiet location within a mile of "old town" with views of the distant mountains. The house was well kept, clean, inviting and private. Gloria was a joy to work with (thanks for the bottle of New Mexican wine!) and the best compliment I can give her is that we will come stay here again and recommend her home to others. BTW, we saw deer every evening while sitting on the deck. (PS, Go to Gallo Pinto for the BEST New Mexican food! I know my NM chile as I once lived in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.)
