About Blacklands Mill House

We are the Raven Family. We bought Blacklands Mill House and Farm in 2013. We have been gradually renovating the house, surrounding farmland, buildings and stables. We have finally finished the house. We still have lots to do around the Land along with farming duties.

Blacklands Mill House purchased this house in 2013

Why Blacklands Mill House chose Calne

Blacklands Mill House has heaps loads of history attached to it. It still has a working flour mill attached to house which is one of next projects. We are hoping to be able to show people round and let them have a go at Milling in the future. The grounds are wonderful the Lake is so tranquil, watching the Swans with their babies through the summer all the ducks and the trout jumping is great to watch.

What makes this house unique

The Lake is one of the unique benefits along with the views. The house has been refurbished to high standard, it has a good size kitchen with a brand new Aga.

We can't wait to return! What an incredible stay!

  • 5 of 5

Where to start!!! What a truly fantastic break in this wonderful house. We stayed here as a group of 8 to celebrate my mother’s 60th birthday and to celebrate the New Year (December 29th to January 1st). We have previously stayed in various luxury cottages and this one did not disappoint. To help future guests I will break our review down into relevant (hopefully useful!) sections:

Lounge area – The lounge is cosy and has two sofa’s, two arm chairs, a large footstool and a padded window seat. It has lovely views out into the garden and a large log burner for colder months. It also has a large television and board games, as well as a large trunk that is used as a coffee table. As with the rest of the house the décor is beautiful and the windows are dressed with both roman blinds and curtains.

The dining room – This was by far our favourite room! Three floor length glass window walls mean that you have fabulous views out onto the gardens and lakes. There is a very large table (that easily seats 12 if I remember correctly) and a sound system that easily plugged into our I-phones and I-pads (aux cable included). We thoroughly enjoyed eating in here and playing games into the evening, made even more comfortable with the underfloor heating.

Kitchen – Just wow! The kitchen was stocked with every implement, pot, pan and glass type that you could ever need. There is an Aga range cooker, a traditional oven/grill and various hobs. There was also a dishwasher and coffee machine. The big island in the middle of the kitchen was great for dishing up food!

Bedrooms – Each bedroom was decorated slightly different but all five were fantastic - even the smallest room was a good size. Each room was en-suite and had tea/coffee making facilities (including a kettle). We all commented how well we slept and this was largely helped by the comfy beds and bedding.

Outside area – Even on a wet December day the garden and lake looked fantastic. We spent two evenings in the large hot tub (lovely and warm!) and enjoyed watching a Heron flying over the lake. Dogs need to be kept on a lead in the garden due to the wildlife but we enjoyed walks up to Calstone and Cherhill Downs from the car park (immediately next to the property). We also visited a local pub (The Black Horse) which served fantastic food and was very dog friendly.

Owners - Jasmine went out of her way to help both prior to and during our visit. We were delighted with our stay and can't wait to return!

A property of high standard and very well equipped

The whole weekend was a memorable experience and staying in such a lovely house just added to it. The property lived up to its description and provided a 5 star accommodation. Ideally located for site seeing.

Perfect family stay, beautiful home, helpful hosts, and a relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

We typically enjoy a 5* hotel, this was our first house rental. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The advice about places to eat and visit were spot on, the home itself is simply stunning with attention to detail at every level. The young crowd loved the hot tub, and the older folk loved the wood burning fire. The dining room was perfect for eating and board games, and all the bedrooms were comfortable and stylish throughout. Thank you for a lovely stay ...we can’t wait to visit again.

Beautiful characterful property, great location

  • 5 of 5

We spent the weekend here as a group of 6 adults and 1 child. Beautifully decorated property, with each bedroom having a different style. The views over the lake are fantastic, and surrounding countryside is beautiful. A few of us also had massage treatments at the treatment room onsite. Highly recommend!

Spacious and beautifully appointed. A beautiful restful stay had by all of us.

Family reunion weekend with a nephew's wedding locally. Lovely property for the 10 of us - my husband and I with our four children and partners. Lots of space and thew hot tub was a big hit. All the bedrooms were spacious and well appointed and the dining room in the conservatory overlooking the water with swans, kingfisher and herons to spot all great. Kitchen was very well equipped and we managed brunch with 8 extras the day after the wedding. I would thoroughly recommend this property.
