About Lorenzo Motos
I am in early retirement, after more than 35 years working in Marine Research, from field research work to management of science and scientists. I like nature and sport, having played basketball and coached teams of various levels. Esther and I live between Donostia-San Sebastián, Pamplona and Elizondo. We have 2 children, one medicine doctor and another teacher and professional athlete. In the profile photo, I appear with my sister Teresa, with whom I manage the property.
Lorenzo Motos purchased this Apartment in 2003
Why Lorenzo Motos chose Elizondo
The house was bought by my mum near the house where she grew up. His balcony, where she spent many hours resting and reading, reminded her of her childhood. It is located in the house Arotzetxea, formerly the blacksmith house and later the house of the village's school teacher. At the beginning of the 2000 the house was reformed to make 6 apartments in a construction of high quality in the heart of Elizondo.
What makes this Apartment unique
The house is comfortable and is located in a charming spot. Elizondo is the capital of the beautiful Baztan valley, with many things to see in nature, traditional architecture and culture. The Baztan is close to the coastal beaches of the French and Spanish Basque country, at less than an hour's drive from major cities such as Donostia-San Sebastián, Pamplona and Biarritz

Baztan valley is the largest municipality of Navarra. With an area of 364 km. square, he owned fifteen locations: Oronoz-Mugaire, Arraioz, Irurita, Almandoz, Berroeta, Aniz, Ziga, Lekaroz, Gartzain, Elbetea, Arizkun, Azpilkueta, Erratzu, Amaiur-Maya and Elizondo, capital of the valley.
A valley characterized by being a land of noblemen and emigrants, who returned from overseas with a fortune invested in remodeling it. The result: numerous palaces and farmhouses of pinkish stone with large balconies; monasteries and medieval bridges over rivers saltarines; goals strewn meadows and hills; suggestive forests; megalithic monuments and caves ... In addition, pilgrims, witches and smugglers also left their mark. Today you can follow their steps through various routes: Camino de Santiago del Baztan, the witches and the smugglers trail linking the nearby caves of Urdax, Zugarramurdi and Sara.
In Baztan you will enjoy endless possibilities. simple paths because in these lands, the crests of the Navarre Pyrenees lean towards the sea becoming softer; museums for all tastes, still active mills, delicious cuisine and traditions that have been preserved over time. In addition, many of their villages have become cozy cottages where you can enjoy the customs and the friendly character of the people of Baztan.
Located in the Atlantic Pyrenees, between the ports of Belate and Otsondo. Baztan Valley offers a profile drawn by peaks of about a thousand meters framing scattered villages and hillsides where cattle campea at ease gunwales. The best view of the area is obtained from the viewpoint of Baztan located in Ziga. Or from the port of Otsondo, 600 m. above sea level, where you will enjoy a broad perspective seaward of the coast. Taking a small road to the right leads to the top of Gorramendi with equally impressive views.
Once referred to the view of this enclave, worth making a foray into the valley to meet its many nuances and attractions. The footprint of history is present in every corner of the valley. Station Izpegi dolmens or the megaliths of Erratzu-Alduides speak of prehistoric settlements and numerous towers and fortified palaces armory recall the border conflicts of the Middle Ages. Stand out for their uniqueness Jaureguizar house in Arraioz, a palace-fortress converted into tourist accommodation such as the Ursua in Arizkun, palaces armory Jarola and Ascoa in Elbete, the palace Arizkunenea (today House of Culture), or the Puriosenea House (now a museum ethnographic valley) of Elizondo.
Another important aspect of this valley is its relationship with the Camino de Santiago. Pilgrims coming from Bayonne (France) crossed the western Pyrenees through the port of Dantxarinea and ventured into this valley. Silent witnesses of that era are constructions such as the chapel of Santiago in Azpilikueta or hospital of pilgrims from Elizondo. In general it can be said that the religious art of the Baztan is characterized by its monumentality and some works of great value as the church of San Lorenzo in Ziga sixteenth century, early herreriano style.
A valley where legends and mythological characters often mixed with other real, though mysterious halos. This is the case of agotes. An ethnic group of uncertain origin that attract visitors to Arizkun, where you can visit the House-Museum Gorrienea, dedicated to the life of agotes and Xabier Santxotena Sculpture Park.
Another attraction of this Pyrenean valley is trekking. Among the infinite possibilities Abartan find the route. A tour of 12,60 km. witness of an ancient pastoral culture of Ziga or the beautiful waterfall walk Xorroxin. A path leading to a striking waterfall, in an area of lush vegetation.
Baztán also has a rich folk heritage. It has kept ancient customs that result in the widespread use of Basque musical instruments like the txalaparta and dances danced to are of txistu and tabor. Traditions today turned into parties. No shortage of cattle fairs, carnivals, ball competitions or meetings Valley brotherhood as the famous Baztandarren Biltzarra, held in July and unites all Valley residents.
These so rich lands will delight the sweet tooth. And in Elizondo best chocolate with hazelnuts (urrakin egina) all Navarra is made. While strolling through the streets, you feel like the smell invades your senses. You will also fall in this sweet temptation.
