About The Owner

Bob & Sandy Dickie live just South of Denver . We moved to Colorado in September of 1999. My 1st visit to Isla Mujeres was 2010 and after four visits I talked my wife into purchasing Sotavento #15. It is a dream come true and I'm sure you will agree. I'm also sure you will fall in love with Isla Mujeres.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2015

Why The Owner chose Isla Mujeres

The owners: The Dickie family resides in Colorado about 17 miles south of Denver. We moved to Colorado from California in 1999 with my wife. We have two daughters age 17 and 22. I will be retiring in three to four years and we hope to someday make Sotavento Isla #15 a semi-permanent home.We visited Isla Mujeres since 2010 and we fell in love with the Island, the Culture, the people and the restaurants. And especially how safe you feel on the Island. We bought the condo on my wife's second trip.

You'll have to see it to believe it. The views are breathtaking and unbelievable on all three floors.

What makes this condo unique

Private roof top terrace with private sun bathing and quite nights with a view.

Clean & Beautiful views!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with our family of 4 (kids 9 & 5) for five nights at Sotavento. It was a wonderful condo! The unit itself was very clean, and I’m pretty picky about that! Our children loved swimming in the pool after long days on the beach. We had all our questions before and during our stay answered by Michael and Rosa, as well as the owner Bob. They were fantastic hosts. Our favorite part was the views and drinking coffee and wine on the different balconies to begin and end our day. Being an interior designer/decorator, I loved the special touch of the Rae Dunn pottery for coffee mugs, so cute! Took

Great Instagram pics with them. We will definitely be back, Isla is our go to trip with kids and this has been the best place we’ve stayed! Thanks y’all!

Our family of six enjoyed an incredible week. The accommodations were immaculate. Mike and Rose took great care of us. We enjoyed dinner at Oscars and the Joint. But cooked many meals in the condo! The views from every level were BREATHTAKING!!

Loved it!!

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous apartment with breathtaking views. In the quieter south of the island but we were glad to have more peace and quiet. You have to pay to access the beach below but it’s very cheap and the snorkelling was good. The apartment is very well equipped and comfortable.

beautiful, magical Isla

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 10 days and we were not ready to come home! Even with our 6-year old sick during the week and some spotty weather at the front, we all had to the most relaxing and beautiful trip!

Expect to smile every morning at turquoise water from every balcony, meet very friendly locals and iguanas outside at the Little

Garrifon reef, and friendly expats staying in the property. It’s walkable to the runs of Ixchel, including sunset viewing if you’re around at that time. The rooftop deck is a stunning place to cook, eat, watch sunrise, and stargaze. We also liked being sble to walk to the Turtle sanctuary and women’s beading cooperative. Depending on your activity level, these could also be 5 minute taxi rides.

It’s Mexico so expect some spotty WiFi, a possible power outage, and yes there is a drainage smell around the second floor. We had candles and got used to it. We would stay again and recommmed to others!

My only other suggestion would be to have a property recycling area in the garbage room.

Thank you for the incredible week!

A perfect mom and daughters get away location

  • 5 of 5

Three of us stayed in the beautiful condo, June 5-9. I gave my daughters the upstairs master bedroom and they were thrilled with the balcony. The queen room was a little warm, even with the ceiling fan going. But maybe that was just me having too many hot flashes. Mike and Rose were perfect on-site manages. Their little dog, Rico, was also very welcoming. We used the grill on the top deck once and it was delightful -- just lots of stairs to climb for the forgotten salt shaker.

I enjoyed quiet mornings watching the ocean and reading while I waited for my daughters to wake up. We spent a day at the beach next to the condo and another day just lounging by the beautiful pool at the Sotavento. We also went to Garrafon to zip line and the Norte beach.

If the stairs to the third floor won't bother you, I am positive you will love your stay!

Fabulous Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just stayed at Sotavento #15 for our spring break April 13-18th and had a great time with our two kids, 9 & 12. Start by saying that Bob had contacts to me within 24 hours of booking. Helping to book airport shuttles, activities or dinner reservations.

Check in check out were a breeze and Kate and Isaac were always there if you needed them.

Everything about this condo was wonderful. Views are amazing, pool is perfect and the condo itself has everything you need. Location was perfect for us on the quiet side of the island with only a 10 minute golf cart ride to the north beach. Snorkel beach below was perfect without having to go out on a boat.

Thanks again to Bob and Sandy for a perfect vacation in PARADISE!

Car: not necessary

A former fishing village, Isla Mujeres still retains its “small-town” charm. This beautiful island just opposite the busy island of Cancun is only 5 miles long and barely a half-mile wide. Surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean, Isla Mujeres boasts an average temperature of 80° F and the weather remains pleasant throughout the year.

Surrounded by coral reefs populated with a bounty of colorful marine life, Isla Mujeres is a paradise for divers and sea lovers. The natural beauty of the white sand beaches on the northern side and the stunning cliffs on the south form the breathtaking seascape of this enchanting island.

Isla Mujeres is only 45 minutes away from Cancun International Airport, one of the most important airports in Mexico, with direct flights from the largest cities in Europe and the USA including Boston, Miami, Chicago, New York, London, Madrid, Paris and Frankfurt.

The history of Isla Mujeres dates back to the Mayan Empire. It once held a sanctuary dedicated to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon, who governed fertility and the tides. The Spaniards discovered the island in 1517 and named it “Isla de las Mujeres,” which means island of the women, for the many female figurines they found on it.

As the years went by, Isla Mujeres became a favored refuge of buccaneers and pirates, and later, during the 19th century unrest in the Yucatan Peninsula, many people fled the mainland and came to live here.

Local Attractions

Hacienda Mundaca

One of the most interesting sites on Isla Mujeres is connected to the legend of a famous pirate: Fermin de Mundaca. According to the legend, this fierce pirate fell deeply in love with a local girl and decided to settle on the island. He acquired a huge piece of land and built an impressive hacienda, only to be spurned by his beloved. He is said to have gone mad from grief.

The site where this hacienda formerly stood has been converted into a museum and the extensive grounds hold a small zoo with local fauna.

El Garrafon

This marine park is on the southern tip of the island and it is one of the best sites for snorkeling on Isla Mujeres. There are also zip-lines and fun activities for the entire family.

Archaeological Remains

The Mayan ruins of a temple dedicated to Ixchel, ancient deity of the moon and the tides, can still be found on the southern tip of Isla Mujeres. While the remains are not particularly noteworthy in terms of size or architecture, the view from the top of the cliffs is positively breathtaking.

Whale Sharks Every year, from late May to September, hundreds of whale sharks visit the Mexican coasts as a part of their cyclical migration; their gathering site is only an hour away from Isla Mujeres by boat. Whale sharks are considered the largest fish in the world but they are quite gentle and pose no threat to divers and snorkelers. To swim among them is an exhilarating experience
