About Laura Thomasson

My x-husband and I bought this house in 2002 after years of wonderful trips to Wrightsville Beach. Our daughter was born in 1998 and we began looking for a place to call our own. Four years later, on the way to look at this beautifully built house we saw a gorgeous rainbow. Well... we bought it and never looked back! Though no longer together, we share the home, as well as rent it for needed income, and so that others can enjoy it when we're not there. We both live in Durham and get there as much as we can. We hope you enjoy the home as much as we do!

Why Laura Thomasson chose Coastal North Carolina

This is our second home and we hope you feel at home too! I put my heart and soul into it and strive to provide everything you need. It is cozy and warmly appointed with local and other art as well as things I've collected from NC, Mexico and Europe. No vinyl here!

Our home is only 200 steps from the sand with no street to cross which makes it safer to get kids to and from the beach. It has three porches, two in front and one in back so you can find either sun or shade. There is a fun porch swing, table and chairs for lap top working, or chairs and settee for lounging and sunning.

Four blocks away or a short beach stroll is Johnny Mercer's Pier, a great place for kids to run to for a snack or soda, or just to hang out or fish on the pier.

We supply most everything you'll need so no need to lug things from afar like sheets and beach pails. We provide towels and linens and have tons of toys, chairs, etc. If you'd like to use the bikes or grill, we ask you that you let us know you'll be using them.

We hope you have a wonder-ful time!

Best experience yet on Wrightsville Beach

  • 5 of 5

We have rented a number of properties on Wrightsville Beach. While all have been nice, this was by far the cleanest, best maintained home we've stayed in. The home was exactly as described in the listing, with good amenities, right down to the kitchen appliances and cookware. The property was a very short walk to the beach, and on the Loop if you're in the mood for a run. Clean, comfortable and convenient. We will certainly consider this property on our next trip to Wrightsville Beach.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jeff! I really appreciate it. I do hope you can return. I am planning a small garden to be done by next year. I also hope to have a gas grill very soon. You were an awesome guest. Would have given you 10 stars but it only goes up to five!

Always clean and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I have stayed at this location and it won't be the last. Just a few steps away from the sand and a short drive to restaurants, it's the perfect beach location. It's always been clean and stocked well beyond what we have needed. I will be staying here again!

Beautiful, comfortable and convenient!

  • 5 of 5

Last minute trip to see my daughter couldn't have been better. Literally like staying at home but transported to the beach. Beautiful property just steps away from beach access to the most beautiful sunrise in the south. Cannot wait to book again. Thanks to Laura for the most peaceful and relaxing days!

Coudn't be better!

Couldn't be better!

I have stayed at many vacation homes and never stayed at one so comfy and well-equipped. And just five houses from the beach! Laura has everything- bikes, beach chairs, toys, bookshelves full of books, and a kitchen with everything you need. There are 3 lovely porches, one with a porch swing and lots of places to work or lounge, sun or shade. The king bed with down comforter and luxurious pillows was a dream as was the jetted tub. The other bedrooms are also comfy with nice bedding. The huge hot and cold outdoor shower is perfect after the beach or anytime. Laura is easy to communicate with and happy to help in any way. I did see the last review which worried me a bit but I saw no ants or smells. I will continue to come back year after year!

Adequate

  • 3 of 5

The time we spent at the property was very relaxing and the purpose was to be with our two daughters, one of which turned 21 and is a student at UNC-W. Overall the property was adequate for our needs.

There were several things about the house which could be improved. One, the beds are extremely firm. Personally I have no problem with a firm mattress but my husband resorted to sleeping several nights on the sofa as he could not get comfortable on the master bed. Several items upon arrival were not working properly, but these were minor to us and as Troy is a handyman, was able to get those things back in working order.

I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the property. The first day there I pulled out the vacuum cleaner, changed the bag because it was so full nothing was being picked up off the floors and the smell of dog was overpowering when the vacuum was turned on. Lots of dog hair in and around the furniture and flooring. The rugs in the foyer and hallway were sitting on top of lots of sand which had worked its way down through the rugs onto the floor beneath. We removed these rugs and cleaned from underneath. The garbage disposal/sink area in the kitchen had a terrible smell for a couple days which I repeated cleaned with my own cleansers. I did not like the living room sofa and chairs - they are in need of recovering badly in my opinion, as they look old and worn out and the chair even had a rip in the arm of the fabric covering it. I know it is hard to have rental property at the beach but in my opinion, leather furniture would have been more realistic in a home such as this only because of the easy way it could be wiped down and holds up to much tougher living conditions than what is in the house now.

Further, we had ants which seemed to appear each evening in the kitchen. I ran the dishwasher each day but one evening as I was preparing to wash the dishes, the dishwasher was full of ants! I didn't see any type of pesticides or spray to use. I know it wasn't anything I did as I am pretty meticulous in my cleaning habits and there was never any items left opened on the counters or food sitting out the entire time we were there.

I hope this helps, I truly do not mean to sound ugly in any of my comments above, just wanting to be honest and hopefully helpful. You have a very nice home, but if it was mine, I would do things a little differently. Thank you. Jeanne Moore

Owner's Response: Leanne, most all mention how clean, fully equipped and comfortable my home is so, of course, it surprised and saddened me that you did not have a good experience. I had great communication with your husband and had no idea there were issues except for the ones I pointed out. Perhaps you weren't aware I waived the pet fee because of these issues. Your stay was just at the end of the quarterly extermination period. Exterminators are coming again this Thursday which should take care of any ant problems. Had I known you were having issues I would certainly have had them come during your stay. There is spray in the hall closet. I apologize that the vacuum bag was full. I do keep extras as you found. I've never heard of the dog smell but checked and it does have a smell which I will remedy. I have two natural sisal rugs that shed. It isn't sand or dirt though I realize some may think it is. The hole in the arm chair is recent (as you know this is a family-friendly, pet friendly home) and on my list to fix. I'm sorry your husband wasn't comfortable. Some folks do prefer softer beds. Mine are on the firm side but I've never had a complaint. Again, I am very sorry you were not satisfied and wish you very well!

Notes:
My limit is 6 but I can go up to 8 if you let me know. There is a pull-out couch in living area. My house is an up and down duplex. We are the lower level. Though the upstairs owners don't rent their place and aren't there much (they live in town and have several places), it is possible for someone to be there so there may be some foot and other noise from upstairs. I have never had complaints but that's the heads up. Once you book you will receive lots of other detailed info about the house and the area. Please ask me anything!
