SHOPPING

There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey (Sea Salt, Joules, Fat Face, and Mountain Warehouse) but its real charm lies with the wide range of boutique, unique and independent shops. Spend hours browsing them for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children toys and don't forget the old fashioned sweet shop!

There are also several bakeries and the fabulous Kittows deli. With two local stores, there may be no supermarket in Fowey, but you'll still find everything you need here. And all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping as well.

THINGS TO SEE & DO

In the centre of Fowey there is also a sweet little aquarium, and a local museum – both are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th church and a 15th century castle fort.

There are a variety of activities on the water, ranging from organised boat trips to canoe hire.

The closest permanent is Ready Money Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming.

There is also a tidal sea-pool hidden away at the Whitehouse Pier! Within a five-ten minute drive, you can be at Polkerris beach and Par Sands, and within a half hour drive there is Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan and Mevagissey.

There are many thousands of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 630 miles around the county, and The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles! Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.

The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens Of Heligan. They really do have something for everyone and make a most enjoyable day out for children and adults.

For the green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens - in fact, there are 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!

If you’re looking for somewhere just for the kids, check out Camel Creek, Springfields, Dairyland, Kidzworld at Cornucopia, Indoor Active, Newquay Zoo or Porfell Wildlife Centre. A small list of the many hundreds of places for families to visit!

Cornwall also has many wonderful National Trust and English Heritage sites.

TRANSPORT

There are three long stay car parks in Fowey, all run by Cornwall Council - you can get weekly and rover passes on their website or purchase tickets on arrival.

There is also a free car park opposite squire’s field on Park Road. There are no allocated spaces and can fill up quickly during the summer weeks.

The nearest train is Par Station, which has direct services from London Paddington and beyond. It's then a 10 minute taxi trip into Fowey.

The main bus stop in Fowey can be found outside the Safe Harbour pub, and the 24 & 25 First Kernow services stop here. There is also a fabulous bus stop at the end of Lankelly Lane, which has had a make-over by the people of Fowey to give a real enjoyable space while waiting for the bus.

Fowey also has its own town bus service which picks up from outside the church and runs to the car parks and some other destinations on request.

The closest airport is Newquay, which is around 30 minute away by car.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely cottage, very comfortable and nicely furnished. Great location right in the middle of Foy which is very picturesque. Nearest car park is Main Car Park about a 10 minute walk uphill (although you can get the town minibus which runs all day) but you can load / unload a few steps away from the cottage. Lots of coastal walks from your doorstep with stunning views, excellent restaurant/pub options, plenty to choose from and lots of independent shops to wander round. Further afield Eden Project and LG of Heligan just down the road. Lanhydrock (National Trust) well worth a visit. You don't go to Foy to watch TV but for info take your laptop as TV reception is not good. Wi-fi excellent so using laptop and i-pad were perfect. Our experience of mobile phone reception great for EE but not Vodafone. Bed so comfortable we are going to buy one ! Would definitely go back.

Cosy and convenient

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely well equipped cottage centrally located within Fowey.

It could perhaps do with a few of the niceties upgrading and a better TV - but then who comes to beautiful Fowey to watch television!

Great for a short break in Fowey

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Baker's Steps in March 2017 and it's a great location for everything in the town. We went to Kittow's Deli about five times in three days as it's only two minutes away! The upstairs of the flat in particular is lovely - both bedrooms were great - and the downstairs is cosy but there aren't many windows, so for a longer stay one might have missed the daylight and having some kind of view. The chiming of the church clock didn't bother us too much although it could be an issue for some. Overall we had a great time and had great communication from Jane and her team - in particular ordering us a taxi when we couldn't get mobile signal! Many thanks.

A beautiful cottage in a great location

  • 4 of 5

A clean and well presented cottage in an ideal location close to the local shops and quay. Real home from home. The only issue was the lack of car parking space as its a steep climb to the car park. Fowey itself is just lovely.
