Catherine Weiford purchased this cottage in 2014
We are incredibly thankful to live in such an amazing place. We purchased the property with the intent of creating a unique and special lodging experience to share with other travelers. It is close to many hiking trails and only an easy ten minute drive into town and the harbor.
Front row seats to enjoy the changing moods of the lake. Watch for waterfowl, seasonal spawning salmon, eagles, and the occasional loon or bear.
I don't normally write reviews but I wanted to add a few overall thoughts of our great stay up in Seward. The house is just perfect, situated right on Bear Lake and away from the busy downtown just enough. There were tons of spawning salmon just steps from the deck and we had a small bonfire both nights of our stay. There were four of us fishing and we made dinner each night there at the cabin - kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need. The house can be divided too with two kitchens and separate entries but we just used the bottom floor for making dinner, enjoying wine and watching TV after a long day of catching halibut and salmon. The house was very clean and they even had a welcome sign out front for us.
I'd highly recommend the house for anyone looking for a great place to stay. Why stay at a hotel if you have more two or more needed rooms - this place is cheaper and has a real 'at home' feel. We left a few items in our hurry to get back to the airport and the owner was so kind that she mailed them back to us in a sturdy and protected box. Thank you!
Clean, quiet, superb location. Salmon were spawning directly in front of the house, blueberries were ripe on the hiking trail just down the road, and the bald eagles and loons provided our evening entertainment. Comfortable beds, fresh linens, and everything needed for meals and coffee made this one of the most enjoyable vacations I've ever had. Thanks!
Our group of 5 adults (2 couples, 1 single) rented both the upstairs and downstairs units of this property on Bear Lake. The property was extremely well kept, clean, comfortable and well appointed. We grilled out one night on the gas grill, cooked in the kitchen, took several walks on the nearby trail (where we picked wild blueberries, raspberries and saw salmon spawning!). This property was very conveniently located a few miles from Seward yet provided a much warmer experience, allowing us to head into town for dinner or excursions but relax on the lake and spend some quality time together.
This cabin was perfect for us. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 well equipped kitchens with everything we needed. We had our meals on the upper deck looking at the lake. Loved it.
We have stayed at this property two years in a row and absolutely love it. The first day we were there we went out to the lake and saw hundreds of sockeye salmon spawning in the shallow water of the lake. There were bald eagles flying everywhere also. Our party of 6 fished out of Seward and cooked fish every night on the gas grill that was provided. The home was immaculate, easy to get to and from, and quiet. We plan on returning to this fantastic vacation home.
Our family of six enjoyed this home immensely! Catherine had so many thoughtful touches ( soaps, shampoos, coffee, tea, and sugar! ). A welcome feeling after traveling across country. The home was clean and well kept. We did rent both units and the separation was a little odd but we just hung out together in one of the living spaces. Close enough to Seward to travel in an out but secluded enough to enjoy the quiet. I do wish we had rented a canoe to just have there during our stay to take advantage of the late evening light as our days were full of activity. We would have been happy to stay there for much longer!
We are in a quiet, wooded neighborhood; a quick 10 minutes to the harbor and downtown. Steps away from the historic Iditarod Trail and walking distance to the Bear Creek fish weir. Close to Exit Glacier and numerous hiking trails.
