Ocean View - a holiday home that sleeps 9 guests in 4 bedrooms

Ocean View House is a delightful 4 bedroom house close to the beach at Holywell Bay on the North Coast of Cornwall. Just a few minutes walk from the beach, Ocean View is furnished to high standards. A great conservatory has been built on the sea side of the house giving views towards the beach and out to sea. The lounge and 2 upstairs bedrooms have superb ocean views stretching over the dunes. The garden is a generous size and fully enclosed, so ideal for dogs and young children. There is a good size patio area off the conservatory with patio furniture.

Holywell Bay is just one of the most convenient locations in Cornwall. Besides the proximity of one of the best beaches on Cornwall's Atlantic Coast, there are miles of walking to be had along the coastal footpath and many attractions within easy reach because of the proximity of the main roads.

Please be aware during the summer of 2018, neighbouring houses are being constructed on a site to the rear of Ocean View. The site is not overlooking Ocean View and will not affect the use of the garden or its views. There may potentially be some noise disturbance during daylight hours. The prices shown account for potential disturbance.

Accommodation

Ground Floor: The front door opens onto an attractive entrance hall. Large cupboard with coat and shoe rack, highchair and 2 safety gates. Off the hall is a generous size lounge overlooking the garden with views stretching over the beach and out to sea, lightly carpeted with an open fire place. Lounge area sits 8 comfortably with 2 x 3 seat sofas and 3 additional easy chairs. Dining table can be extended to seat 8. The large conservatory is off the lounge, and has another dining table and seating area. The main Bathroom is off the hall and has a bath with shower over bath, mixer taps with shower head, toilet and wash basin. Bedroom 1 also off the hall, has a 6ft super king size bed (this can be separated into 2 x 3ft divan beds). There is a 20” remote control TV, clock radio, electric blanket, hairdryer, large built in wardrobe, chest of drawers and a bedside table all in antique pine. (There are 2 single duvets & blankets supplied, as well as a wooden cot and travel cot all in the wardrobe). Bedroom 2 off the lounge has 5ft pine bed, clock radio along with fitted wardrobe and a bedside table.

First Floor: Bedroom 3 has breathtaking views over the dunes and over the ocean. Wrought iron 4ft 6ins double bed with en-suite bath, toilet, shaver point and washbasin. There is a 20” remote control TV with white built in wardrobe, cupboard and drawers. Also a wrought iron bedside unit with clock radio, electric blanket and hairdryer. Bedroom 4 also has the same breathtaking views over the dunes and ocean. 2 x 3ft divan beds, additional single bed that pulls out from underneath, clock radio, wardrobe and 2 bedside cabinets. (Duvet, pillow's and blanket for the 3rd pullout bed is provided in the wardrobe):

Exterior: Enclosed garden with external table & chairs.

Facilities & Services

Heating is via night storage heating and an open fire. Fully fitted kitchen off the hallway with electric cooker, (Rayburn pictured but not working), fridge, dishwasher and microwave. Utility Room has sink, chest freezer, washing machine & dryer, iron & ironing board, as well as plenty of space to store wetsuits, boards, coats and boots etc. The sitting room area has a 42" LCD Freeview TV & DVD player. There is WiFi available at the property.

Miscellaneous

The night store heating, bed linen and towels are all included, but you will need to provide your own beach towels. All other electricity is on a meter. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There are parking facilities for up to 2 vehicles at the front of the house. Up to 3 well behaved dogs will be permitted at the small additional charge of £35 per dog / week, although please remember that dogs cannot be left unattended in the property alone. There is a cot & high chair available. Please note that Ocean View is only suitable for up to a maximum of 6 adults and 3 children.

Excellent location, tired accommodation.

Holywell bay is a fabulous location, this accommodation is in an excellent position with fantastic views over the bay.

The furniture, bedding and towels are all of a very good standard however the cleanliness of the property is not of a particularly high standard. Under all of the beds and in corners in the rooms it is quite dusty. Having the ability to accommodate 8 adults it is disappointing that there is only one shower, and the ensuite bathroom did not have any hot water. This would also benefit from a shower mixer tap as after a day on the beach 6 to 8 people needing a shower at the same time needed a timetable of use. As the signal in the area is poor for mobiles contacting the owners regarding the hot water was not possible. I appreciate this is not their fault so the only way to rectify is feedback.

If I had read the reviews prior to booking I may have changed my mind as the same comments regarding cleanliness and facilities have been made previously and no improvements appear to have been made. I would certainly like to visit this properly again but not for the same price if there is no change in the standards. The location and dog friendly status, the utility area is extremely useful in this regard, make this a very desirable property, but even though we bring dogs we do expect a level of cleanliness also.

Overall we had a lovely week, this is a lovely area.

Ocean view stay 2016

We very much enjoyed our holiday & were extremely lucky with the weather. The location of the property was perfect for us and couldn't have been better. It ticked all the boxes in terms of location to the beach, small shop for essentials, walking distance to two pubs. A lovely idyllic place for families and pets.

The property suited all our needs but a few minor points for the owners:

The grill oven glass didn't have securing clips so every time you opened the door we were worried the glass would fall out.

The up stairs bathroom would have benefitted from a shower head mixer tap so you can rinse the bath out & wash your hair.

Dishwasher had warning light on asking for rinse aid & dw salt.

As mentioned only minor niggles but would definitely recommend & we would love to return.

Location

Holywell Bay is one of the finest beaches in Cornwall. Just 6 miles from Newquay and Perranporth on the north Cornish coast. Holywell Bay is an ideal spot to tour from as it is very central for all parts of Cornwall. There are 2 village shops and two inns. There is also an 18 hole golf course, Holywell Bay Fun Park, fishing and horse riding very close-by. The secluded National Trust beach at Holywell combines golden soft sands and safe bathing with dynamic caves and cliff walks. With RNLI surf patrols, it is one of the safest surfing beaches on the North Cornwall Coast. There are many caves and rock pools to explore with a large expanse of sandy dunes, providing shelter and privacy. Fishing from the beach is good and the excellent cliff walks provide breathtaking views. Holywell Bay derived its name from a spring fed well, said to have curative properties. It was custom in the older days that parents brought their sick children and dipped them in the well. Above the well is a small cave where the children were lowered from. The well is to be found at the north end of the beach in a large cave, reached only at low tide.

Nearby is the bustling resort of Newquay. These days Newquay's excellent surfing waters are the towns main industry, where as it once used to be a major export port for the counties mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Womens and Mens Gig Championships are held here, as well as a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. Newquay Zoo now houses 130 different species in sub tropical gardens in the centre of the town.

Neighbouring Watergate Bay and The Extreme Academy offers you a 'ski resort on a beach' and a plethora of activities to keep even the most active occupied. Fifteen Cornwall, founded by Jamie Oliver in 2002 sits on top of the two mile beach at Watergate offering inspirational views for the young chefs and professionals to create fantastic menus from local and seasonal produce. The Lappa Valley Steam Railway just outside Newquay offers both the old and young an interesting day out. Newquay Airport has made the north coast one of the easiest places in Cornwall to get to, with regular flights from various locations across the UK. The town also has an Aquarium, a Waterworld and numerous immensely pretty beaches for the less active. Trerice run by the National Trust is 3 miles outside of the town is an Elizabethan Manor House and Garden with restricted winter opening times.
