Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom home on a 1.5 acre treed lot

A unique , new and eco friendly home built with style and comfort in mind. This two bedroom house is great for families and couples alike. Located on a private 1.5 acre treed lot, it is perfect for your Adirondack vacation. It is equipped with everything you need to feel like a home, away from your home.

My husband and I designed and built this property from the ground up, actually I dug underground for the septic/gas and water lines. We are almost finished, just a few more finishing touches and this place will be perfect. I haven't finished all of the decor (mostly I am still looking/shopping/deciding but it still has everything you could possibly need). It won't disappoint.

Highlights: Airy and lots of natural light; woodsy private lot; close to Lake Placid (5 miles); close to Saranac Lake (5 miles); close to hiking/kayaking and boating; close to Whiteface Mtn; easy to find as the property is just off of Route 86.

If you are looking for something different - we have another property listing 491313 on VRBO. This property is 'cabinesque' in the Adirondack style. Also please check out the reviews to give you an idea of what you may expect staying with us.

About Jodi McKinnon

Both my husband and I work in the village of Lake Placid as professionals. We love the outdoors and all of the activities that are available here in Lake Placid. We honeymooned in Lake Placid and every year we complete a hike at sunset. The picture above is on Cascade celebrating our 19th.

Jodi McKinnon purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Jodi McKinnon chose Adirondacks

This is a brand new home! Designed and built by the owners. We built this as a home for my parents - but for now they are not ready to move in.

Eco-friendly (not LEED certified, home but close)

Bedroom 1: queen bed

Bedroom 2: 3 twin beds

Kitchen linens are provided as is a bath mat, blankets, pillows and a duvet for each bed.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a beautiful space. It has so much natural light - it feels very special. The decor is cross between mountain modern and Scandinavian, with a touch of whimsy - it is spectacular! The space is clean, efficient and bright.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

I really don't think I can say enough good things about renting from Jodi. This was my second time staying at the property. I told Jodi that I was travelling with my newborn son (my first!). She went above and beyond to make sure that I had everything I needed for my first trip with my new son. She even messaged me to make sure we arrived ok since it was snowing that day. The property is so nice and cozy. There's nothing better than sitting on the couch with a fire going looking outside the beautiful tall windows and seeing some deer crossing the driveway. The house is stocked with everything you could need. It's in a great location. It's nice and quiet - but a quick drive to either Saranac Lake or Lake Placid. This will be my go to for places to stay whenever I go up to visit.

Horrible stay

  • 1 of 5

Horrible stay here. Dog barked constantly, there was no seclusion either. They had a trail camera watching the whole time which is a complete invasion of privacy. They also charged us for breaking something that was already broken when we arrived. I highly recommend NOT staying here.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Kyle. Since the dates coincide, as does the negative review, I do believe you are with the same party as Cheryl H, who booked this rental for you, but did not stay with your party. I do believe that you stayed with 3 young adult males, and one young adult female, for a total of 5 people. To date I would have to agree that your stay was horrible. In 13 years of renting, this is my first negative comment about any guest. Normally when I do respond to reviews it is so that the comments may assist future guests if questions arise. Perhaps you may find value in this commentary and behave more respectfully to other properties you may rent in the future. I would like to begin in saying that you are staying in and using someone's personal property. Someone who has opened their home to you so that you could have a more unique and personal experience other than that of a hotel. I would hope that while doing so, you treat the premises with the care and respect as you would your own home. Actually I would think that you would treat it better. 1) Yes, we do have a deer cam. It is NOT pointed at the house. It takes a photograph if it detects motion from our yard to the neighbour's, along the fence line. You would have been in the picture only if you were trespassing on the neighbour's yard. 2) A damage deposit is to protect our property in the event of damage or theft. If something is seriously amiss, prior to your use, it should be mentioned to the owners. Your party never mentioned the wall damage or the chip in the marble. The house is perfectly maintained. It is inspected personally. 3) Your party left us broken alcohol bottles in and around the fire pit, the yard and around the rock wall. A mess to clean up. 4) The fish scales from when you cleaned your fish were all over by the outside spigot. You left them there. This stench attracts bears and raccoons, who subsequently raided the trash bins that were left unsecured. 5) The new BBQ was left such a greasy mess that the party after you was unable to use it. It was so bad they didn't even want to touch it. 6) After your stay our neighbour complained to us about your excessive noises. The dog it seemed had good judgement. Total seclusion would have made all happy. So yes, I do concur that you stay was less than agreeable for all parties involved. Perhaps in the future you will model more responsible behaviour, as I will continue to offer a rental that is very well received.

Very comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in the tiny home, which was bigger then we expected. Jodi was quick to respond to questions that came up. A side note, the coffee maker is no longer a single cup so no need to bring k-cups. The cleaning and damage deposit were refunded quickly. We would definitely stay again!!

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The house is comfortable and charming and cool! Kitchen is well stocked, beds are comfortable, the setting is wonderful. The house is very clean and well kept. The owner was very responsive to inquiries and flexible. It is in a great location if you are traveling to Lake Placid, we were there for the Lacrosse tournament and the house worked out perfectly. Would definitely recommend it!

Wonderful Vacation in The Tiny Home!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 5 days in this place and everything was absolutely perfect. The house is very nicely appointed and the location is extremely convenient to all of the area attractions. 15 minutes to Lake Placid, 20-30 minutes to High Peaks region, and 10 minutes from the Olympic Jump Center. The master bedroom was very comfortable for my wife and I and my 6 year old daughter loved the room with the bunk beds. There are three bunks, but the top one is a little cramped. We arrived to find the house very clean and ready for our arrival. Everything you need to know is posted in the kitchen. Judi (the owner) checked in with us via text upon arrival to make sure everything was ok. She seemed to be readily available with any concerns that we may have, but there were none. The outside has a nice sitting area complete with a fire pit and a barbecue. You managed to feel very secluded even though you are really not off the beaten path. I will definitely be staying here again for my next trip to the area. Loved it!

Adirondack tiny home love

  • 5 of 5

My short stay (2 nights) was nothing short of delightful! The tiny home felt spacious, and I think it could easily suit up to 5 or 6 people. I would hesitate to let a child use the top (3rd level) bunk, but the two chairs in the living room are also convertible. Everything is new, all amenities are provided, the decor is sort of rustic industrial chic. The hosts are responsive & helpful. I love it!
