A fantastic couple of weeks

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely fortnight at Overavon. The property was ideal for us, and well equipped. The weather was kind, so we were able to enjoy evenings sat out in the garden enjoying the beautiful view, and our daughter loved playing boules. The owners were lovely, and very helpful. We had additional needs that required delivery of medical equipment before, during and after stay, and this was accommodated without any problems. Thank you.

We had a great time at Overaven and it catered for our needs perfectly. Comfortable, warm, clean, well equipped and with spectacular views. We loved that we could walk to the coastal path direct from the cottage. Owners were very helpful and we hope to return.

Comfortable cottage with a view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a very comfortable stay in Overaven. A pleasure to wake up each morning to wonderful ocean views! Perfect base from which to explore the beautiful north Cornwall coast and its pretty harbour villages and beaches. Would love to return in warmer weather to make use of the garden. Thanks to Jean and Geoff for a great holiday!

A wonderful stay at Overaven

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful short stay at Overaven in mid November, the cottage was lovely, stunning views and close to all the places we wanted to go to. Lovely fish and chips from 'Sharon's Plaice' in Boscastle; great lunches at Charlie's in Tintagel; a glass of cider at the 'Port William' watching the sun set over the strand at Trebarwith; and a magical walk and visit to St Nectan's Glen (take up the offer of wellies). Overaven offers everything you could want from a short stay.

Beautiful bungalow with view to match

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is lovely. It is very well equipped and has a view to die for. The garden is lovely although we did not use it as it wasn't warm enough to sit out. In the summer it will be wonderful. The cottage was warm and cosy and we really could have lived there.

Excellent for a comfortable relaxing time

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was excellent. The sitting room was very comfortable with a good sized television (which we didn't use much). There are lovely sea views from all rooms at the back of the cottage. The cottage has an excellent well equipped kitchen, which was easy to use. We used the heating in the evenings;it worked very effectively. Overaven was well located for going on some lovely walks. We didn't travel very far: after a strenuous year we wanted a cottage in Cornwall in which we could rest comfortably, go for country walks and return to a comfortable cottage to relax and read. Overaven fitted the bill perfectly. The owner was very responsive and could not have been more caring. We hope to use Overaven again and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Location

Trethevy is a delightful hamlet, equidistant from Boscastle and Tintagel and has a history which may well go back to 250 AD when a granite post was inscribed with C DOMI N GALLO ET VOLUS – ‘For the Emperor Caesars our lords Gallus and Volusian' this can now be found outside St Piran a former monastery and now private residence, Trethevy is also home to St Nectans Glen a beautiful valley where the River Trevillet has carved its way through the slate and formed a beautiful 60' waterfall.

Boscastle is a tiny port set in a narrow ravine, the town came into prominence recently as a result of terrible floods in the summer of 2004. There is a pottery in the village and several gift shops. A footpath to the left of the quayside will take you to the 'Lookout' which is a wonderful vantage point from which to view the rugged coastline. Boscastle was once a favourite meeting place of the author Thomas Hardy, and is the location for one of his novels 'A Pair of Blue Eyes'. Boat trips can be taken from the harbour as far as Long Island, where during the breeding season you may see razorbills, puffins & guillemots. There is a demanding 7 mile coastal path walk between Boscastle and Crackington Haven. There are several attractions along this stretch of coast including Strangles beach at the bottom of a large landslip with a rock arch the Northern Door. Just south of here is High Cliff which is the highest point on the Cornish coast path. Don't forget to visit Pentargon inlet which has an imposing waterfall that cascades down to the sea below.

On Bodmin Moor, Dozmary pond is thought to contain Arthur's Excalibur, and Merlin is thought to be still found walking under Tintagel Island. Camelford is a great centre for touring, walking, fishing, swimming or surfing holidays. The town is steeped in history and has excellent shopping and sporting facilities. Port Isaac is the location of the televisions series Poldark and more recently Doc Martin, as well as being a gorgeous working fishing village. Bodmin Jail built in 1778, notorious for its public executions by hanging, was the first jail to be built housing inmates in individual cells. The Jail closed in 1927 and is now a museum open to the public, which during the First World War housed the Crown Jewels and the Doomsday Book. The famous Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths for 18 miles, providing the whole family with a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge, and out to Padstow where you can sample Rick Steins famous Fish and Chips. The market town of Launceston is the capital of Cornwall and well worth a visit to see the church of St Mary Magdelene, with granite carvings, unusual among Cornish churches.
