This is a traditional Cornish cottage with two bedrooms, a newly fitted kitchen and bathroom and an open fire in the lounge. There is a small terrace above the road to the front of the property and a garden to the rear.

Bohortha is an ideal location to discover the coast path with circular walks around the headland past the picturesque Place Manor, stunning views across to St Mawes and panoramic vistas of the Carrick Roads and west towards the Helford River and the Lizard Peninsula.

A lovely cottage, our third visit.

Pink Cottage is an ideal bolt hole. It would be nice to have some improvements such as decent knives for the kitchen, nicer seating area with a decent table and chairs. The kids ask for a proper shower curtain. It holds a special place for us

Almost perfect!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at pink cottage for a week in September with our baby. The cottage is comfortable and the location is excellent as you have many walks straight from the village - to Anthony's head, to porth, to Towan beach, the the ferry to St Mawes. The cottage was warm enough as there were a couple of heaters and an electric fire in the cosy sitting room. The communication from the owner peter was excellent before and throughout our stay and he brought over a high chair when we asked. There are only a couple of things that we wished were different. Firstly we had to bring our own ben linen and towels- I think for the price this should be included. We had so much stuff to bring that it was one extra hassle that we could have done without. The other thing was that there was no wifi! For some they want to get away from it so may suit but for us this was a big set back. I think in this day and age wifi is an integral part of how we live and relax- for listening to music, for watching movies (I don't think people use dvds anymore!), for reading the news papers, for looking up local information, for keeping in touch etc, etc. There's no phone signal in the cottage so I think wifi would really improve the stay at the cottage. There was a DVD player but only 6 (pretty awful!) dvds to choose from so bring your own dvds if you have any.

Warning that there are low ceilings- my husband banged his head at least twice a day to his frustration (he's 6 foot 2) so that might be something to think about if you are tall- I think that took away from the comfort for him!

All in all a beautiful location, a wonderful host, a perfect location - if there was wifi and bed linen/towels provided it would have been perfect!

Small , cottage with limited access. Not really suitable for children or adults with mobility issues

  • 2 of 5

Greeted by an overwhelming damp smell and a massive spider. Cobwebs and dirty carpets everywhere . Access to bedrooms like climbing Snowdon with a rope! TV switched off everyone we used the hairdryer or radio upstairs . Phone numbers for vendors , doctor etc useless as no mobile signal , no wifi , no phone in the property - good job we didn't have an emergency . No parking , lane too narrow to park a car. We went back early as the damp smell was overwhelming and made me feel ill. The slope on the floor in bed 2 was so steep it was difficult not to roll out of bed so didn't sleep well. One of the worst holidays I have ever had and has put me off coming back to Cornwall or staying on a cottage again .

Owner's Response: I am surprised by this review. The guest arrived a day late. The cleaner, who went in the day before, is briefed to clear cobwebs amongst other tasks and did a thorough job. Keeping spiders out of an old country cottage is almost impossible. There is quite clearly a picture on the website showing the staircase and rope. It is an old cottage and most guests love the fact it is quirky - in 25 years of our ownership no-one has commented on a sloping floor! We do not advertise wifi and many welcome the escape from it. Mobile coverage in Cornwall is patchy. There is ample parking 50 yds up the lane where it widens. We take adverse comments very seriously but I did see the guest and asked if everything was alright and the cottage clean - I was told it was and everything fine. I also said my sister was staying 100yds away so any problem brought to our attention could be dealt with immediately.

A superb cottage in a fantastic location.

The Pink Cottage is a lovely cottage in a superb location with lots to do in the locality such that the car seldom moved. The owner is a very caring man who takes the time to visit, to make sure that everything is OK which adds great value to the experience.

Location

Portscatho and its neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the eastern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a relaxing place. The beaches such as Porthcurnick and Towan are simply idyllic and these are only minutes from the village. With a superb local butchers shop, 2 great little pubs and a well stocked local store, Portscatho and Gerrans are a lovely place to spend a holiday.

Pink Cottage is about 8 minutes drive along the St Anthony Headland from Portscatho, in the little hamlet of Bohortha. The beaches at Towan and St Anthony are only a short drive away (about 1mile). Please do have a look at the location map for a more detailed idea of the position. The St Anthony Headland walks can be taken straight from the cottage. You can also walk to the Place Ferry landing stage where during the day you can catch the boat to St Mawes. In the evenings, there is a water taxi available (booking essential).
