About the property

Cleave Cottage - a holiday cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Cleave Cottage is an "upside down" cottage with a wonderful open plan kitchen / living space on the first floor and the bedrooms and shower room on the ground floor. The cottage has a lovely rustic feel with exposed stone walls in places, lovely thick window cills, the odd bit of uneven floor and brilliant beamed ceilings throughout. The Owners have some fine woodland for you to explore with footpaths to the nearby cliff top church at St Gennys. Cleave Farm is a simply delightful place to stay. Positioned at the end of a mile long private lane, it is no longer a working farm but 2 homes and 3 holiday cottages created from the old farm buildings. This is dramatic Cornwall at it's best. Only 150 meters from the spectacular cliff path providing some of the finest walking in the county and yet just a short 5 minuter drive from the amazing beach and surf at Crackington Haven. The larger towns of Boscastle and Bude are just short drives away as is the wild expanse of Bodmin Moor. Bude has all the facilities you would expect of a major resort, including some fine beaches.

The Guardian: "This place is gorgeous. Wooden beams, a high ceiling, and charming wonky floors and walls that mean you are in a “real” old house. Natural light pours through the windows, and outside are rolling landscapes of dewy-morning grass lit up by the sun – all accompanied by the sound of birdsong and bleating sheep."

Ground Floor: Master bedroom with a 5' double bed. There is a second twin bedroom and a family shower room. The main door leads out onto the shared lawned garden.

First Floor: Open plan living / dining / kitchen area with a cosy wood burning stove.

Exterior: The shared communal garden is mostly laid to lawn and there is outside furniture and BBQ (please provide your own charcoal) for you to use.

A Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent a week at Cleave Cottage, that is myself, husband and 2 kids aged 4 and 6. Considering it was the last week in October we were very luck with the weather, but even if it had tipped it down, this would have been a great place to be.

The cottage is a little quirky with the bedrooms downstairs, and the open plan kitchen/diner/living room has a sloped floor (a reminder of the buildings origins as a grain store). But it is both light and airy and cute and cozy at the same time. Walking access to the coastal path is right on your doorstep, as well as other walks too, and it is a short drive to Crackington, Boscastle and Widmouth.

All in all we had a great week! but then we do love Crackington Haven, and this was a great place to stay while we were there.

A place to return to!

  • 5 of 5

When you go to Cornwall you know what to expect: beautiful nature, history, sheep, the ocean, authenticity. When we hired Cleave Cottage, we did not realize that all these elements were present within a stone throw away of the Cottage. It already starts with the beautiful path - that in spring is an ocean of blueberries- that brings you to Cleave Cottage and at one point leads you to drive through a little stream. The Cottage is perfect for 4 person's, it is cozy, clean and has a wonderful view. The only discomfort might lie in that the fact that the floor of the living room is not level but one could also think that it only adds charm to the place. Just a short walk up the hill of 3 minutes will reveal a spectacular view of the cliffs and the ocean. There are several foot path that begin right outside your door and will bring you to a charming little fishing village Crackington Haven or to St. Gennys with its historical church. After a days of activity it is great to come back to Cleave Cottage and enjoy the surrounding over a beer or glass of wine. The night will bring spectacular star skies because of the complete darkness. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. We can definitely recommend a stay at Cleave Cottage and be sure that it will add an extra dimension to your visit to Cornwall

The house is located 1.5 miles from Crackington Haven, which is included in the best surfing beaches in England and was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in its Good Beach Guide. The beach is surrounded by majestic cliffs providing a spectacular backdrop and it is one of Cornwall's most dramatic locations. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and fantastic terrace.

As you travel down the coastline, you can visit quaint coastal villages such as Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, the latter offering a range of fantastic restaurants where you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious fish.

Twenty minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and there is a fantastic family beach in nearby Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside kite-surfing, swimming and a whole host of water-based activities. Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs.

Six miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding.

With easy access to the both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.
