About the property

Lower Tamsquite - a holiday cottage that sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

This beautiful Grade II listed cottage dates from the late 17th century and is located in a south facing valley with wonderful mature gardens and is surrounded by fields and woodland. The cottage has a welcoming feel, with slate tiles in the kitchen, and a large wood burning stove nestled in a traditional Inglenook fireplace in the lounge. All modern facilities are included, as there is very little mobile phone reception here there is a landline in the property. Lower Tamsquite is a pet friendly property and to explore the walks of Cornwall and the North Coast this really is a superb base.

Tamsquite means "bend in the wood" in Cornish and Lower Tamsquite was the original wood cutters cottage, traditionally tenants were allowed to cut down trees to build family homes but not to sell the wood commercially. There are plenty of walks in the surrounding area and as there is very little traffic so the lanes are quite safe, It is a short walk past Tamsquite House and into the village of St Tudy where you can enjoy the church or local pub, whichever takes your fancy! The opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine in the garden while soaking in the rural atmosphere is not to be missed.

Ground floor: Enters into a reception / dining room with separate seating area and access to kitchen with range cooker (not as pictured), dishwasher and fridge freezer. A further door leads from the kitchen into the conservatory with sofa and chairs and further access into the lounge with large wood burning stove, this leads back into the original reception / dining room. There is a corridor that leads to the studio bedroom with twin beds, TV and en suite shower room with WC. Leading from the corridor is a family bathroom with large corner bath and shower over. In the reception / dining room there are stairs leading to;

First floor: Landing at the top of the stairs with doors leading to master double bedroom with 4'6" bed and twin bedroom.

Exterior: Drive with parking for 3 cars and approx. 0.5 acres of garden. A separate utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer which is opposite the back door of the kitchen. There are barbeque facilities and exterior furniture.

Great and well-provided cottage

  • 5 of 5

In the many years in which we have gone on self-catering holidays, this was the best property that we have ever stayed in. We cannot recall any previous one which was so well-equipped, which when added to the cosy and comfortable nature of the property, made for a great stay. It was also the most 'homely' property we have ever stayed in, a world away from the often minimalistic holiday properties that don't hit the mark in the way this one did. Truly excellent!

Home from home!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful cottage with a stunning garden. Very well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our fortnight relaxing in the garden, with plenty of space to walk our lively cocker spaniel. The cottage was perfectly located for seeing Cornwall. Ken and Val were most helpful and accommodating. We have had many cottage holidays and would say that Lower Tamsquite was one of the best we have stayed in. A home from home!

Beautiful Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages over the years but none more immaculately kept than this one. Everything about it was perfect, including the owners who could not have been more helpful. The cottage is warm and cosy and everything is provided for a wonderful holiday, even things you didn't think of yourself! Could not recommend this cottage more highly and we will definitely be returning - one week is certainly not enough!

Lower Tamsquite is situated 1/2 a mile from St Tudy a quaint Cornish village, The church around which the village was built was first constructed in the 6th century and then rebuilt in the 11th, 15th and latterly 19th centuries, the village has been built around the original Celtic circular raised graveyard - known locally as "God's Acre!" St Tudy is believed to be the birthplace of Captain Bligh of the "Mutiny on the Bounty" fame! The St Tudy Inn (formerly the Cornish Armms) will welcome you in for a refreshing drink, a hearty meal or both!

Bodmin Moor is a couple of miles away to the East and is dominated by large granite tors which tower over sweeping expanses of moorland. Bodmin Moor has engendered fear and awe throughout history and hence provided inspiration for writers, poets and sculptors. Standing stones, burial chambers, clapper bridges cottages and farms across the moor give a hint of the 4000 years of human developement ever since Bronze age farmers first arrived.

Port Isaac is about 6 miles to the North West and this has recently been the base of filming for "Doc Martin" with Martin Clunes, there are a good selection of cafes shops and pubs. Further up the coast there are all of the golden beaches and coves between Polzeath and Tintagel with some of the best surf in Europe.

Bodmin lies a few miles to South West and has a large selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants.
