About the property

Fowey Retreat - a holiday home that sleeps 10 guests in 6 bedrooms

Whether you want a special place to spend time with the family or a get-away-from-it-all time with friends, Fowey Retreat is the perfect place for your Cornish holiday. Near enough to join in with anything that is going on yet secluded, quiet and private on the edge of beautiful country and just a short walk from the glorious coastal path. Lankelly Lane is Fowey's best kept secret. The Lane is just above the town, its houses set in their own large private, enclosed gardens with a long view over the fields to the ocean. The Lane is overwhelmingly occupied by local people. Turn left out of the five bar gate and you head towards Lankelly Farm past the local riding stables, Coombe and the breathtaking views of Polridmouth beach, the National Trust coastal path and the great ascent to the Gribben Head. Or shortcut across the headland via the woodland paths of Tregaminion and Menabilly (Du Maurier country) to the sandy beach and rockpools of Polkerris and Sam's wonderful restaurant or a pint at the Rashleigh Arms. Turn right and you are a 10 minute walk from the town centre or 200 yards from the tree lined path down to Neptune Point and Readymoney Cove and St. Catherine's Castle.

Fowey Retreat is used for some of the year as a Christian Retreat. It is a spiritual place and there is a wonderful library containing a large collection of religious reading as well as many other themes. One of the rooms upstairs is used as a small chapel and this is available for use if you request at the time of booking.

Ground Floor: Open plan kitchen / dining area. Separate sitting room and conservatory which opens with two lovely big doors onto the patio. Separate dining room. Master double room followed by 2 twin rooms. Family bathroom with over bath shower. Utility room, shower room with WC. Lobby room with table football.

First Floor: One twin room followed by 2 single rooms and separate shower room. There is a chapel which will be kept closed unless requested.

Exterior: Lovely big patio and lawned garden with external furniture and BBQ facilities.

Family Holiday for Christmas 2017

  • 4 of 5

We all had a lovely stay at the Fowey Retreat over the Christmas week.

Plenty of places to visit nearby and lots of good walks nearby.

You do need good weather to make good use of the lovely garden.

The Owner was very welcoming and accommodating.

Great property within walking distance of Readymoney Cove and Fowey. Lovely and clean and spacious.

  • 5 of 5

We frequently hire furnished accommodation and know that the owners of the Fowey Retreat are.much more welcoming, caring and courteous than most. On our arrival we were greeted by Sara who had patiently waited for us, after a long journey down battling against Hurricane Brian and had made a delicious cake for us to consume. There is plenty of space; with a good sized well equipped kitchen, dining room, conservatory. Two very good working showers and handy sinks in two of the rooms downstairs and three toilets. An added extra of a room upstairs dedicated to quiet contemplation which catches the early morning sun and has a view of the sea.

A memorable stay

  • 5 of 5

A comfortable, well-equipped house. A little dated but homely. A truly excellent garden that is large and safely contained proving ideal for children. The large patio and garden table were great for alfresco meals. Some extra chairs in the Lounge would have been good since only 6 can be accommodated at the moment. Fowey itself is charming and there are pretty little lanes nearby that give access to the local beach. Would definitely recommend this property to others. It was great value for money

Great stay at Fowey Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Fowey Retreat is a nice traditional house. The garden is lovely and great for kids. We loved the location with walks to several beaches along country paths, which meant we could leave the car at home. Fowey is a lovely little place, and it's also close to the Eden Project and Lanhydrock house. We would happily return to the house again.

Fowey (pronounced Foy) is one of the most iconic places in Cornwall. Set on the steep banks on the Fowey Estuuary, the narrow streets and alleys are just great to explore. View of the harbour are dramatic just watching the activities in the harbour can keep you occupied for many hours! Life in Fowey revolves around the water. The local fishing fleet land the freshest catches and local specialities include mussels, oysters, clams, crab & lobster. There are some great restaurants and pubs around and nearby. Try one of Sam's restaurants or a little drive inland to the historic Crown Inn at Lanlivery is well worth the effort.

Life on the water culminates in the middle of August with the Fowey Regatta Week where yacht racing takes place all week. Watch the historic Famouth Working Boats racing in the close confines of the estuary or enjoy the many festivities around the town. The highlight is without doubt the spectacular display by the Red Arrows who rate Fowey as one of their most dramatic displays because of the steep valley. There are countless attractions near to Fowey including the Eden Project, Lanhydrock House & Gardens and the beautiful Luxulyan Valley.

The Eden project is 3 miles Fowey 3 miles. Lost Gardens of Heligan 10 miles. Almost on the doorstep Par duck ponds & woodland walks link to the Clay trails long distance cycle paths. For garden lovers there are many open gardens to explore including Marsh villa Garden just 50yds away! You are in the heart of Du Maurier country with many places to find on the literary trail.
