Overview

About the property

Barton Cottage - a holiday cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

This traditional cottage, next door to the iconic cliff top Church at St Gennys (don't worry no chimes!) offers a proper cottage holiday in Cornwall. Nothing can quite compare to staying so close to the coastal path (a 5 minute walk from the cottage) with majestic views made even more spectacular by the height of the cliffs in this part of Cornwall. There is also a footpath just yards from the cottage which takes you on a beautiful 15 minute walk down to the beach at Crackington Haven. If you prefer to drive to the beach, it takes just five minutes. The Owner, who lives nearby, organises nature conservation walks across the dramatic National Trust coastline surrounding the cottage.

This light, atmospheric cottage has a small garden with lawn to the rear with superb views of the sea and rugged, unspoilt cliffs to Widemouth Bay. Inside there is a lovely open plan sitting room / kitchen with traditional slate floor, wooden beamed ceiling, a large rug, lovely 3 piece suite and open fire. An oak staircase leads up to a spacious landing which has panoramic views over neighbouring farmland. Both bedrooms have fantastic views.

Accommodation

Ground Floor: Open plan sitting room / galley kitchen and dining area.

First Floor: Double bedroom, twin room and bathroom with bath and shower over bath. Please note due to the slope in the ceiling if you are over 6ft you may need to dip slightly in the shower.

Exterior: Small patio area to the front with picnic bench and table and two chairs. There is also an enclosed garden to rear for which two comfortable chairs can be provided on request.

Facilities & Services

Heating is via gas central heating and open fire. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven & hob, kettle, toaster, fridge with separate freezer, microwave & washing machine / tumble drier. The sitting room has a Smart TV & DVD player. WiFi is available at the property. There is an iron and ironing board.

Miscellaneous

Electricity, heating & bed linen are all included but you will need to provide your own towels. There are parking facilities for up to 2 vehicles. Strictly only 1 well behaved dog over the age of 2 (NO PUPPIES) will be permitted at a small additional cost of £30 per week although please remember that you cannot leave dogs unattended in the cottage alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is a cot & high chair available.

Lovely Cottage, Stunning Location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cosy cottage. If your looking for peace and quiet to recharge your battery's then this is the place you. A short walk to the coast path with truly stunning views and path down to the beach (a little on the steep side). Short car journey to Tintagel, Boscastle and Bodmin moor. Will defiantly be going back.

An all round lovely holiday

  • 5 of 5

Barton Cottage is in a great location, with a sea view from the back bedroom. The cottage was comfortable and quite cool in the hot weather. The kitchen is well equipped. The garden is enclosed which was great for our little dog. The coastal path is almost opposite the cottage. The nearest pub is in Crackington Haven which is a 5 minute drive away, which also has a couple of cafes. The owner Francis is very pleasant & helpful. I would recommend this cottage & would happily book again.

Barton Cottage excellent value

  • 5 of 5

Barton Cottage was situated in lovely quiet location, with coastal walk just a few steps away. Lovely clean well kept cottage and the owner Francis Crocker was helpful and respectful of our privacy. We had our own private gated garden back and front and the cottage was well equipped although could have done with a full length mirror but certainly didn't spoil our stay by not having one. Kitchen equipment even had washing machine/dryer and bedding was of good quality and comfortable. Beautiful sea views from bedroom window. Good base for Crackington Haven with amazing pub and great food, Bude was 8 miles away and Wadebridge about half hour. Widemouth Bay local too. Would recommend coastal walk, breathtaking scenery . Lovely little church St Gennys

Lovely old church just a few steps away.

A beautiful quiet location

  • 5 of 5

Barton Cottage was exactly what we were looking for: quiet and comfortable, in a beautiful location very close to the sea. We'd come to canoe, swim and walk and it was perfect for all three. Crackington Haven - a wonderful swimming beach - is an easy walk down the coast path (a bit of a puff back up, but fine) and in the first week of June it was sunny and peaceful there too.

We cooked in most nights and though the kitchen is small, it's well equipped. We ate outside whenever we could and watched the swallows dipping into the little barn area beside us: this really is a wonderful place to recharge your batteries.

Barton Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Barton Cottage is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Being outside the main village, it is wonderfully quiet and peaceful with views of the sea. It is easily walkable to the beach at Crackington Haven - even with two small children - with the reward of a drink in the pub/ ice cream from the cafe when you get there. The cottage was very cosy and comfortable. We had a wonderful time.

Location

The cottage is located less than a mile from Crackington Haven, which is included in the best surfing beaches in England and was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in its Good Beach Guide. The scenery in the beach area of the surrounding majestic cliffs is almost unrivalled. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and fantastic terrace. The cottage is located in the parish of St. Gennys, which prides itself on the excellence of its public paths with the National Trust owning most of the cliff and adjacent farmland.

As you travel down the coastline, you can visit quaint coastal villages such as Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, the latter offering a range of fantastic restaurants where you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious fish.

Fifteen minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and fantastic family beaches in Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside swimming and a whole host of water-based activities. Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs.

Six miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding.

With easy access to the both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.
