Quiet neighborhood, Nice clean place
We ended up arriving about 1hr before check in and they were able to let us in at that time. A few hours later, Luci came by to say hi and to give us some pointers (as to where to go, and to offer her items for us to use at the beach if we wanted to and how to use the pull out couch) the location of this place is very quiet, and I felt pretty safe there. We didn't have any issues finding a parking spot really close to the house. The house had plenty of what we might need (blow dryer, travel size shampoo and conditioner, lots of toilet paper, cups, utensils etc) overall, we would stay here again if we were to go down to San Diego again :)
We’re so glad you enjoyed, Yesenia! We hope you come down to San Diego again.
Perfect little getaway for the three of us!
This little apartment was close to everything that we needed and had just enough space our busy family of three!
Thanks for the visit. Glad you had a great time!
Nice neighborhood, great location, super clean and comfortable. Will come back!
This apartment is tastefully decorated and impeccably clean! Our family of three had everything we needed for our weekend stay, even an old-fashioned Italian Expresso coffee maker, a first in my travels! The location was perfect, near Balboa Park and its many attractions. After a day of sightseeing, street parking was easy to find. I highly recommend this apartment for your stay in San Diego.
Charming Guest House...would stay again!
We were wary of booking this unit because of the review from the prior fall. But we have grandkids in the neighborhood and the convenience made it worth the risk. Happy to report that we encountered none of the issues the prior guest cited. The home was spotless. Linens were new and clean. Shower was clean as was the bathroom.
On the upside the unit is wonderfully light and well appointed. The heater was perfect for the brisk nights we encountered and we were pleased to note that the unit could provide AC as well (having visited in the summer we have found that AC in this area is a must at that time). Kitchen had all that we needed to prep meals and we even had the grandkids over for a movie night and sleepover (the sectional was perfect for them). Luci (the owner) is so sweet, she knew we were going to have the kids over and she had popcorn and candy waiting at the unit when we arrived! We are so happy to have discovered this unit. Even if we didn't have family nearby we would come back for Luci's hospitality (and the neighborhood....so many great cafe's and restaurants).
Iris, thanks for the review...I will check to see if we can get this moved to your account...I forgot that we booked this for you through our account to keep it secret from your H! Glad we could do that for your surprise anniversary trip for him. Until next time!
A dirty unit in a nice neighborhood.
The location was fine, located in a nice Neighborhood. The unit was dirty. Our feet and slippers were black from the dirty floors. The shower curtain had mildew/mold on it. The sheets smelled sour and the lower kitchen cabinet which contained the pots and pans had mouse poop in it. The front door in which you enter the unit needs to be replaced. The lock is practically stripped and the key pad entry lock is very unpredictable. Over all we were disappointed in the money we had to spend on this unit. We will not be recommending this unit or staying in it again.
Cheryl, thank you for the time you took to review. I must say that I am somewhat surprised by your experience as it does not jibe with the other 50+ guests who have reviewed this unit in the last 2 years. I visited the unit immediately after your stay (and even before the cleaners arrived) and I did not find the floors to be dirty. They are older hard wood and tile (and as such will get dirty even during a short visit with the windows open) but I am sorry to say that "black" would be an overstatement. We did replace the shower curtain (an oversight from my cleaning crew). I checked all the towels and sheets and could not find any that smelled at all. I will note the we do not use any scented cleaning products (the owner has allergies to such things) so often what is a "natural" smell can seem different from a heavily scented smell if you use soap and softener normally. I also looked for and could not find any evidence of rats or pests, even after you told me where to look. Front door actually works fine (you were instructed to push the lock button twice, which extends the bolt an additional inch into the door frame). This is a wonderful mid-Century guesthouse with original fixtures and matching furnishings. It is an urban unit in a great (South Park) urban setting. My recommendation for you in the future is that you consider the setting and type of unit before booking as it seems like your needs might tend to hotel-like stays (which is fine but not necessarily always the experience that a vacation rental provides).
Cute apartment in South Park
Great location, reasonable price, and a quaint apartment.
Glad you enjoyed everything Jacob!
The hip, historic neighborhood of South Park in San Diego has 'small town charm in the heart of the city'. No chain stores or restaurants (except for a 7/11). Wide tree lined streets with victorian to spanish homes, fabulous restaurants, yoga and fitness centers, salons, coffee shops, friendly nightlife, great shopping, full grocery store, organic and gourmet market. All within 2 to 6 small blocks of the house!
Close to everything. Two blocks to Bus 2 heading downtown to the Gaslamp, trolley, train station, and Convention Center. Across a canyon to Balboa Park or the Zoo. 10 minutes from the airport and 8 minutes to Coronado Island and the most beautiful beach for walking, swimming and catching some waves (ask me about the short cut and parking secrets). Municipal Golf Course around the corner. We are In the Car2go area. Rental bikes brought to your door. Several fabulous nearby farmers markets (my favorite) to stock up on fresh local foods.
Things to do in the neighborhood... take a nice walk or bike ride, explore boutiques, get a massage, do some yoga, have a casual or gourmet dinner, bring your guitar for open mike night or catch a band at Rebecca’s Coffee Shop, or play a little pool and dance at the Whistle Stop. Enjoy a hand crafted beer, a wine flight or visit during the four yearly Walkabout events and meet all the friendly locals, snack, listen to music and visit the shops in the evening.
