´A Casiña do Limoeiro´(The Little House of the Lemon Tree) is situated in the delightful countryside of Cotobade, less than 30 minutes drive from the historic town of Pontevedra and a little further to some of the stunning beaches of the Rias Baixas. In this quiet corner of Cotobade, you are more likely to find cows and sheep roaming the roads as the locals take their livestock to the fields to graze daily – come rain or shine. Haymaking in June and planting potatoes in February are still the mainstays of the local calendar.
This separate cottage forms the oldest part of a large farmhouse. It is over 300 years old and once had the original living quarters on the upper floor with the animals kept below for heating. Nowadays, it has a woodburning stove instead and the cottage has been fully renovated to a modern standard whilst still retaining all of its rustic charm.
The thick stone walls were constructed and restored using the granite from the nearby mountains. The bedroom features a traditional granite Galician windowseat originally made for two (very small) people to chat in. The roof retains all of its original structural beams and the other wooden elements of the house (staircase, flooring etc) were reclaimed from the larger farmhouse.
The cottage is perfect for a single person or a couple. It is next to, but not attached to, the owner´s farmhouse and has its own individual private entrance and gravelled patio which is walled on three sides and has a low fence, 70cm high to the front. This leads onto a small garden complete with mature lemon tree. The stone wall to the front is 40cm high. Views are to open countryside and hills beyond, framed by orchard trees.
The interior is open plan with the bedroom on a wooden mezzanine level above a galley kitchen and bathroom, linked together by a lounge/dining area. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob, combi microwave/oven/grill, fridge with freezer compartment, sink and instant gas hot water heater. The bedroom area has a queen size (135x190cm) double bed and wardrobe, and the lounge area has a sofa, dining table, wood burning stove, television (21inches) and stereo.
The casita is a small but perfectly formed 25m2 and has been perfectly adapted for up to two people especially as the owners (and dog) lived there for three years whilst restoring the larger farmhouse.
WIFI is available but with a limit of 5GB per week.
Please note: due to the short open staircase it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
