1860's Post Office Renovated In A Modern Style With Views Of Lane's Cove

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,400 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 6 nights

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

This spacious 4 bedroom house with views of Lanes Cove is situated in downtown Lanesville (Gloucester) and is steps away from the water. The bottom portion of our home is a separate apartment that is included in the rental. The space is usually rented as its own space but is being offered in combination with the upstairs for the month of June. It has its own kitchen, deck and bedroom. View images of the second, connected space here: https://www.vrbo.com/699124

With a beautiful mahogany outdoor shower and a 500 square foot deck overlooking a large yard guests can truly take advantage of the beauty of this small fishing village.

A 2 minute walk can have you swimming or kayaking in the Cove (rentals are available a block up the street), painting on the rocks overlooking the ocean (its a popular spot for artists), buying lobsters off a boat as they pull in to unload their daily catch or picking up a coffee and a sandwich from The Grind a block away.

Lanesville is a small fishing village on Cape Ann and is about a 10 minute drive from either downtown Gloucester or Rockport. Plum cove beach is a 10 minute walk away and a very popular place to go for a viewing of the sunset. Because of our location we are one of the few places on the East Coast where you can watch the sun set over the water - making us a top pick for best sunsets by National Geographic.

Gloucester offers a rich maritime history, is the oldest working seaport and active artist colony in the United States and is an ideal place to come to stay or to use as a base camp for excursions throughout Cape Ann. Aside from the local options for activities like Halibut Point state park, hiking in Dogtown Commons or booking a local fishing charter there are numerous destinations just a short ride away in neighboring towns like shopping and dining in Rockport, antiquing in Essex, visiting museums in Salem or taking the hour drive or train ride into Boston.

We don't allow smoking or pets.

Charming little treasure!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one week in this super cute house. I searched a long time to find anything for me and my husband and our two little kids. This was the perfect place for us. I fell in love with the great mixture of design, all the picture art on the wall and the charming style of handmade elements. You feel that this old post office was remolded by the owners with lots of sensibility for the old/antique. To be mentioned especially: the kitchen provides everything you need for cooking or baking. The house itself is in walking distance to a little beach, and two little shops. You can rent a sup or kayak close by. (The only thing we missed was a parking permit for the nearby beaches you have to drive to, as it is very very expensive to park there...) Boston is only an hour drive, so you could have some sightseeing, too. I recommend this house 200% Simply wonderful.

Comfortable, convenient, and scenic - a hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here last summer and loved it - will definitely be coming back. I found the clean, simple decor of the place relaxing - just has a really unique feel to it. The deck is a great place to grill and have a group of people hang out on a summer night. It's an amazing deal for being this close to the ocean, and it's the perfect jumping off point for visiting all the sites on Cape Ann. Hope to get back soon and would recommend it to anyone looking to visit the area.
