Sabine Rousseau purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Sabine Rousseau chose Port-en-Bessin-Huppain
After spending many times in this house belonging to the family of a close friend, we decided to buy it when it was for sale. We completely renewed the house that was in its juice and thought of it as a family holiday home for us and our guests.
What makes this Cottage unique
Its extraordinary view, windows openings enlarged compared to the house of the beginning of the century. From all the rooms we have this extraordinary view on the sea. Even from the kitchen at the back of the house, which is a little raised, you can overlook the sea. The charm of the apparent stones, its old wooden staircase, the soft warmth of the fireplace. Light and neutral colours are restful. Arrival beds and linen are provided. This is the penultimate house on the quayside, you will find total peace and quiet outside the noise of the sea and seagulls, even in high season.
Les arrivées se font en autonomie avec une boîte à clé et ne mode d'emploi, sauf certains samedi.

The house is great particularly if you like to cook. Our only problem was that the house number was not posted on the house so finding it in the pouring rain was a mess. Fabulous owner
A super house with a super view
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this charming, stylish and very comfortable fisherman's cottage, located opposite the harbour entrance to beautiful Port-en-Bessin.
The cottage was well 'kitted out' and the beds were so comfortable that we all rested and slept very well!!
The daily activity of this fishing community was clearly observed from the comfort of the lounge and bedrooms, with the large windows ensuring that we made the most of the beautiful sun rise and sunsets over the harbour.
It was lovely revisiting Port-en-Bessin, particularly with the preparations for the D Day Commemorations so evident all around the town.
We found Sabine, the owner, to be most helpful in all our communications with her and we look forward to returning to her beautiful cottage in the future.
Lovely property with superb views of the harbour
We recently stayed here for 4 nights and thought both the property and location were fantastic. The house itself was very comfortable and well-equipped for our stay. The most impressive aspect was the views of the harbour which is literally outside your front door. We particularly enjoyed being able to sit at the table in the lounge and have breakfast or lunch and watch the boats coming and going. The other option is to sit upstairs in the master bedroom and look out to sea while reading a book. What could be more relaxing! Port-en-Bessin is a proper working fishing port and we enjoyed walking down to the quayside to watch the boats leave or return to harbour. If you stay there a trip to the fish hall is a must to buy incredibly fresh fish - the scallops are highly recommended. Bayeux is only 10-15 mins drive away and has plenty to recommend. We would love to come back and stay here again. Sabine the owner was very helpful with any questions we had and helped us get the most from our stay.
Dear Neil and Ruth, thank you again for staying in our house, for being so nice guests and for your kind review. We will be very happy to welcome you for your next trip in Poet en Bessin. See you soon. Sabine
Beautiful cottage in a spectacular location
A very special cottage, full of character yet Modern and comfortable. A Incredible location too, we especially loved the log burner!
Thank you for staying at Les trois Moussaillons and very happy that you liked our house. We would be happy to welcome you again. Cheers, Sabine
Characterful and well-equipped cottage on the seafront
Excellent base for exploring Normandy's great history. The cottage itself is clean, spacious and full of character and light. It is also well equipped and in a fabulous spot for walking around and exploring the lively fishing port of Port en Bessin. I have two quibbles. There is nowhere to sit outside with a coffee or glass of wine unless you take the little table in the lounge out with you on to the busy pavement. More importantly the parking right out side the cottage is usually grabbed by fishermen or other tourists and it can be tricky negotiating the car on the narrow and busy quay if you do manage to get a space. I ended up leaving my car a five-minute walk away in a small public car park and it was fine, so problem solved. Overall, a great stay in a friendly little town in the heart of D Day country.
Thank you so much for your stay in our house and town and also for your review which will be very helpful for future customers.
It allows me to make clearer that as you say, there is no private terrace that comes with the house. If you want to have a coffee or a glass of wine, as we usually do, you do have to carry the little table (that was chosen in purpose quite light) in front of the house on the Quai.
Usually in the morning it is sunny and quite calm. For the pre-dinner drink during the full season it may be a little bit busier, but it is by far quieter than anywhere else in the Port-en-Bessin.
About the parking, what you mention is very helpful too. The parking slots in front of the house are reserved for residents staying on the quay.
In practice, fishermen have the habit of getting as close as possible to the sea front which is a famous fishing area and is part of the charm of Port-en-Bessin. If no slot is available when you get back to the house, you have the possibility to block the road by double parking and watch until a slot becomes available (which normally happens quickly).
If you just want to unload your car and not have to watch the comings and goings, you can always unload in front of the house, and then park in one of the car parks (either near the fish market or the Cousteau car park) which are less than 5 minutes walk from the house as you said. All these car parks are free.
In all cases, during high tide and storms (rare in high season), it is not advisable to leave your car in front of the sea…
Perfectly quaint and everything you need.
We had a fabulous time here. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The sound of the waves hitting the harbor walls put us into deep sleep along with the very comfortable bedding. The large dining table was perfect for 5 adults. The top floor had a spacious room easily equipped for adults or children. High chair and crib in room. I could have stayed forever! Thank you for a lovely quiet town and cozy house!
Port en Bessin is in Calvados - Normandie, rich of history at 10 km from Bayeux and Arromanches, and 7 km from Colleville sur mer with the American cemetery-Memorial and Omaha Beach.
