Situated between two working farms the farmhouse dates back to 1741, and when we purchased it in November 2015 had been in the same family for three generations. The house has been renovated to the highest standard, modern and stylish whilst maintaining a lot of the original features.
It has four bedrooms, one en-suite with a king-size bed, one double en-suite, and one double and a twin that share a family bathroom. There are also two folding guest beds.
Downstairs there is a sitting room, with a TV and DVD, CD player and wifi, a kitchen /diner with a woodburner and a farmhouse table that seats 8-10 people. There is also a French style shower/bath , an original feature of the house, ideal for those mucky pets who may be with you! There is an outdoor walled graveled courtyard with table and chairs and BBQ, and a large field at the back, which is fenced to keep in children and dogs! Even a 4 berth caravan for the adventurous to sleep 'outdoors' !
The house is suitable for older children, but young children or toddlers need to be supervised.
The immediate surrounding area is mainly farmland but it is still only 4 miles to the nearest town, Mauron, which has a large supermarket and petrol station, restaurants and a couple of bars. The village of Guilliers is the opposite direction, only 3 miles away. This has a great butchers and an amazing patisserie ! Both are open Sunday mornings, which is handy as all of the shops in France are generally closed on Sundays.
The area is very flat, so ideal for cycling holidays, also suitable for walkers, with lots of interesting marked routes for anyone with either of these interests. Not too far away near Ploermel is the Lac au Duc for fishing and golfing and lovely walks, plus water sports and a man-made beach and swimming.
A short drive away too, within easy reach by car is the town of Josselin, with its beautiful Medieval buildings and Chateau, by the banks of the Nantes- Brest Canal.
Another must is the beautiful old village of Rochefort en Terre, which has been voted one of France’s most beautiful villages. This lies approximately 45 minutes away in the direction of Vannes. Vannes is approximately 55 minutes away.If arriving by air, Guilliers is an hour and a half from Nantes and its airport, an hour and a half drive from St Malo if sailing across from Portsmouth. If arriving from Dieppe, it is approximately a 4.5 hour drive, along the coast of Normandy and Brittany, crossing the spectacular Pont de Normandie. A lovely easy drive.
