Italian Experience

  • 5 of 5

We arrived home late last night, after a wonderful holiday. The apartments are

well equipped and lovely with every attention to detail. The balcony was an

amazing space for all of us to gather from meals etc. We really enjoyed our day

in the mountains the pool and food was fantastic. Felicity wished we went soon

in the holidays so we could have gone a second time.

Thank you so much Laurie for the transfers it was so easy to walk to the station

without the luggage and Felicity enjoyed the ice cream on the way. Marc and

Gemma didn't mind one bit looking after the luggage whilst sitting in the bar!

Hope to see you again

Owner's Response: The "day in the mountains" enjoyed by our reviewer, was spent at our 16C manor house, Villa Marianna, where there is a very large pool and a "cucina dei contadini" ie a private restaurant with a resident chef, who cooks to order for our guests. He uses only fresh local ingredients....meat, truffles and, fruit and vegetables, picked on the day. The wine is free-flowing and both the lunches and the dinners are very modestly priced. Saluti, Norma

Great place

  • 4 of 5

Loved Spoleto, apartment was larger than expected. Laurie picked us up at the station and also took us back at the end of our visit. Both he and Norma were quick to give help and advice the end of the internet. Would recommend a visit to this beautiful area.

Like home away from home, only you're in ITALY!

  • 5 of 5

I visited many towns in Italy while I stayed in Spoleto with Norma and Lauri, but Spoleto was always my favorite! Norma and Lauri bent over backwards to accommodate me during my 6 week stay, even purchasing an American drip coffee pot and buying a Chromecast adapter for the TV so that I would be able to get Netflix and YouTube while I was there to watch movies at night.

I loved the beautiful flowers that grew outside my flat! It was on the fourth floor with a great view and on the days when I felt kind of tired from walking I could take the elevator. The bus, train, grocery store, and covered traveling sidewalk are all within short walking distance. The main Piazza at the foot of the town was only about a 2 minute walk from where I live, and that's where it all happens in the evening!

Lauri also arranged some outings with several other people who rented from him and Norma, and it was great fun to make contacts! We traveled with some of these friends during the latter part of our trip. The price was quite affordable, and so is living in Italy. I definitely plan to go back again and will stay with Norma and Lauri when I do!

Bella Due - bella vacanze

  • 5 of 5

Located in the historic centre of Spoleto, on the fourth floor, Bella Due is a great apartment. We have stayed there previously and just had to come back. Laurie, pleasant and relaxed as ever, met us at the station as usual and filled us in on the changes in Spoleto over the past few years. Bella Due was as we remembered - comfortable, neat, small and basic kitchen where we could prepare our versions of Italian meals, great bed, and a small balcony where we enjoyed a few lunches in the sun - ideal for us. Returning to Spoleto felt like returning home and Bella Due just added to that feeling.

Amazing town, amazing place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Everything was great; very tasty equipment place to stay in the middle of old Spoleto. The hosts, Norma and Lourie, were very kind and really professionals, they gave us all of hospitality, support and information we need. I beleive, we will be back.

Spoleto is amazing town, we have seen a lot of similar in Italy, but Spoleto is number one. A lot to see, but not too much, great restaurants, but not too expensive, the hill of Monteluco with possibility to make sports and deserve all of good italian food and wine.

Unforgettable indeed. And we are not so young and we were all around.

Owner's Response: We aim to please, always ! We LOVE appreciative guests because we always go the extra mile. Why ? We LOVE this place, Spoleto, and all that surrounds it. And, it is our dream job, even though we have been retired for many, many years now, to share the best that this area has to offer with those seeking a totally dream holiday.......and, that will not break the bank, because Spoleto and all its surrounding areas are not touristy, so you pay local rates everywhere you go. And, in central Spoleto, there are 55 restaurants competing for your custom......all excellent well as 55 churches and 28 bars all inviting you to stay awhile !! No need for a car - the train station is walkable and from here you can access almost anywhere in Italy ! Thank you to our wonderful guests, Norma and Laurie xx

wonderful spacy app., everything was superb!

  • 4 of 5

Please note, we stayed in Splendido!

We enjoyed the very fine service by Laurie! The Splendido app. was so fine for us, sun on the spacy terrace all day long, very short walk to the "rolling gangway", which was very good for us. To stay for 2 weeks in Spoleto was absolutely amazing, walking around in this old city with its narrow and steep passages was just as fine as expected. We would love to be back!

Car: not necessary

With free WiFi internet access, Bella Due, a stylish apartment, is in the historic, pedestrian centre of Spoleto called “il Borgo”, buzzing with shops, bars and restaurants as well as ancient monuments, churches and museums, at every twist and turn of Spoleto’s arched and cobbled streets. Housed within the famous 14C Rocca Dei Perugini, the stronghold for the Perugini, (where the battle between the Spoletini and the Perugini raged for 2 years until the Spoletini regained their city), located in Porta Fuga, one of the oldest mediaeval lanes in Spoleto, you are treated to all the advantages of contemporary living, while, at the same time, the atmosphere is laced with antiquity. You could not want to be in a better location than this!!

A car is NOT necessary as you are just 10 minutes walk from the train station and the bus terminus or a very short bus-ride. From the train station, you can get to practically anywhere in Italy. And, from the bus station, there are a myriad of really interesting journeys you can take, from little local rides around the hills, visiting a diversity of hill-top villages, to places as far afield as Castelluccio and Norcia – all spectacular rides!

Entering the Rocca Dei Perugini through its huge Roman archway, you reach Bella Due on the 4th floor by lift or stairs. All around you, placed strategically hither and thither, are plants and flowers. The interior of the this beautiful palazzo is very pretty with lots of sunlight.

The Rocca Dei Perugini is the midst of shops, bars and the largest selection of fantastic restaurants, all offering a diversity of dishes from local black truffles to pastas and paper thin, bubbly, crispy crust, piping hot pizzas.

Spoleto is not a touristy place and, therefore, prices are good, competitive local prices.

The local wines eg Trebbiano, Grechetto, Montefalco, Orvieto… are to die for. You will hardly notice the price of it on your bill.

You can choose from amazing shoe, bag and clothes shops, any shape or size, designer label or otherwise.

And, there are churches and monuments on street corners, under arches, through tunnelled alleyways, peppered hither and thither, as you meander along the picturesque cobbled lanes, every angle, a work of art. Fatal to take your camera out. You will obsessively do nothing but take photos!

The local bars are filled with friendly locals and the owners will warmly welcome you.

The passeggiata occurs twice a day but the main one is between 5 pm to 7.30 pm. This is the time of day when everyone meets and is joyful, especially over aperitivi.

Walk for 20 minutes to the top of Spoleto, pass the beautiful Rocca, a mediaeval castle open to the public, cross the famous ‘Ponte’, a huge aqueduct, and you are in the Sacred Mountains.

From Spoleto train station, a 10 mins walk, it is possible to get to practically anywhere in Italy eg 1 hr 20 mins to Rome, 4/5 hours to Venice and Naples, 30 mins to Perugia…. An easy walk along a flat boulevard road, also stuffed with shops and bars!

From the nearest bus stop, a 5 mins walk, you can catch a bus to Norcia, which will take you on a sensationally beautiful drive along the Valnerina, for about 1 hr 45 mins, passing through mountain scenery, climbing higher and higher.

Or, by car, you can continue further to the heart-stoppingly, amazing Gran Piano and see the tiny hick town of Castelluccio peeking through swirling mists. On a great plane, surrounded by mountains, the world spilling beneath you, your heart will miss a beat. In Castelluccio, you can dine on the finest lentils and white truffles.

Nearer to home, by car, it is easy to visit Todi, Gubbio, Orvieto, Perugia, Spello and Assisi, all within a 45 mins heavenly drive.

Spoleto is akin to a giant, fairy-tale castle. Sprinkled with bars, restaurants and shops, peppered with piazzas, Spoleto sits magestically amidst a maze of tunnelled, cobbled lanes and alley-ways, all leading skywards to the famous Rocca, the aquaduct and, some of the best views in the world. A surreal setting, a stage-set in the making, fringed by mountains, olive groves, vineyards, mediaeval monasteries, towns, cities and tiny hill-top villages – all beckoning a visit, Spoleto is truly a temptress. Succumb to her beauty and you must use all your will-power to leave. Quite simply, Spoleto is the most captivating city in Italy, never mind Umbria, Venice and Florence, being on a par.

Venice has the water. Florence has the Uffici. Spoleto has the mountains. All three have a history to be reckoned with. All three bedazzle us with their rich cultures, their European, aristocratic connections and their sheer beauty. But, Spoleto has the upper hand for the world traveller. It resists tourism with its associated inflated rates and tacky goods on sale ! You are invited to visit Spoleto, but, not as a tourist. You will be welcomed like a long lost member of the family! Treated like a king.
