Not what was expected

  • 1 of 5

The home was nice, but we arrived and the temperatures were in the 90's and the home had one fan which was broken. The owner took the broken fan and didn't return until the next afternoon with one fan for an apartment 1000 sq ft. We never slept the first night because it was too hot.The bed broke the following night when we slept and the owner blamed us, the old door gave us a really hard time getting in and again the owner blamed us for the condition. The dishes had to be washed prior to using. I also have homes I rent and would not treat renters this way. We spoke to the owner several times to explain our disappointment but was not receptive. We ended up booking another home to stay in for the rest of our vacation, having to spend another 800 euros.

Owner's Response: 1) Michelle (and not Constantino Lema) rented the flat with somebody else account on HER name and always wrote about HER stay. Instead of her I found her MINOR daughter and other two 18-year old kids. So she did something incorrect and illegal. I should have not accepted them, because I should have had a written permit of her mother authorizing her to stay in my flat, but I didn't send them away. 2) They started to complain immediately: - that the door was broken: it wasnot, it works normally, they just had not listened when I explained them how to open it, the fact that it is the original old door doesn't mean that it does not work. - that all the plugs were broken: their American adaptors were not compatible. - that the bed broke all alone in the middle of the night (!!!) probabely they sat all three in the same bed. Luckily they broke just a support screw of one slat and I could repair it quickly so I didn't charge them the damage. - Honestly I can't say anything about the dishes, I did not see them, but the cleaning lady is very accurate and no one ever complained before. - The not working fan was changed with a working one on the same night as soon as they informed me and not the day after. - It was clearly written that the flat has no AC, they came in the warmest time of the year and could have chosen another flat with AC. - They left without informing me and without giving me the opportunity to help them to find another solution and blamed me for the fact that they had to pay a cab and another flat. - They asked for refund and told me that if I did not refund them they would write a negative review: I partially agreed upon not because they "blackmailed" but because I felt sorry for all the wasted money and though Homeaway told me that I had no obligation to. I gave Homeaway the authorization to return the money from my account. And everything is written clearly on the correspondence between me and Michelle on Homeaway. Never again such guests!!!

Very pleasant apartment, wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was quite spacious, comfortable, and had all the basic needs. The terrace was a wonderful addition and was the perfect place to sit in the evening with a glass of wine. The host, Elena, was very friendly and helpful. She even went out and purchased our Roma passes for public transportation when we arrived.

What made this place and stay so wonderful was the location. Monteverde is away from the tourist mob scene but easily accessible by bus or by walking. By being away, it was a real neighborhood. There was a bakery next to the front entryway for bread and pastries; Angelo's for cappuccino on the corner; a couple of nice little restaurants nearby; two nearby supermarkets, shops within a block for homemade pasta, cheeses and sausages, meats, and gelato. You soon felt yourself to be part of the neighborhood. Two street markets were within a couple of blocks, featuring fresh produce, flowers, meats and fish and there were also two very large city parks nearby. You could really experience Roman daily life, especially if you enjoy walking around.

You come away from a stay here with a great appreciation of the Roman lifestyle. The sights of Rome are spectacular but we will always most remember the kindness of the people and the daily flow of life in the neighborhood. Strongly recommend for people wishing to experience what living in Rome is like.

Mooi groot appartement!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Location

Nearest Airport
30 Kilometres
Airport Leonardo da Vinci in Fiumicino (FCO)

Monteverde older is a neighborhood in Rome at the beginning of the last century. Gives the idea of being in a village, everyone knows each other and is well stocked with all kinds of shops and services: pharmacy, newsagent, grocers, small market, etc. Under the house there is a bakery that produces bread, pizzas and desserts until early afternoon.

Villa Pamhili, the largest park in Rome with well 184 hectares of public green, two ponds and a polo field, is five minutes walk. In five minutes you can also access the Villa Sciarra park and Porta San Pancrazio where the Roman Risorgimento Museum.

Trastevere, an ancient working class neighborhood of Rome, very lively and full of open well into the night delicious local bases, is located one km away, while St. Peter's Square is at 2,5km. But under the house there are bus stops that take you to all these places and others.
