About the property

Perfect Retreat for Those Seeking Relaxation In Golant by the River

Harbour House is a beautifully presented, newly renovated property with captivating estuary views overlooking the River Fowey. This enchanting holiday home sits in an enviable waterside setting in Golant, a sleepy Cornish fishing village with narrow lanes and old Cornish cottages.

There are two terraces at the front of the property overlooking the water. You can watch the canoeists and the rowers come in and out of the Pill, a tidal lagoon which was created when the Fowey to Lostwithiel railway was built or just enjoy the comings and goings on the water.

Inside, the accommodation has been sympathetically renovated so as to keep many of the original features whilst, at the same time, providing modern comforts designed for maximum relaxation.

The open plan living room has a superb picture window framing the ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ beyond and a wood burner for fireside cosiness – perfect for when you return from your winter walks. The modern kitchen at one end makes a fantastic social space to cook and eat. Of course you may decide to stroll down to The Fishermans Arms for supper, 3 minutes away, also overlooking the water with a large garden. There is also a good size WC downstairs too.

Both bedrooms are spacious and have stylish en-suite shower rooms. The front bedroom can either be a king sized bed or 2 single beds and there are bunk beds in this room for further bed space if required.

There is a conservatory at the rear of the house and a cloakroom.

Harbour House is perfectly placed to explore; hire a canoe or kayak from the estuary beach below and discover tranquil creeks and smugglers caves with plenty of wild life to spot on the way.

Golf enthusiasts can tee off at one of the five golf clubs nearby - the courses at Carlyon Bay and Porthpean both have the most amazing sea views. With Par Sands, Polruan and Readymoney Cove all within easy reach.

If you are a keen walker there is excellent estuary or wooded walks around the area and at Lerryn you can cross the river at low tide via the stepping stones and enjoy some lunch at the pub.

Cracking location

  • 4 of 5

This property is ideally situated for a peaceful break. In a village of only 220 residents it is 20 feet from the river's edge and 60 yards from the Fisherman's Arms - a great pub for food. On top of that it was only 50 yards in the other direction to a place that kayaks and canoes could be hired, an experience you should not miss. The three bedrooms were ideal for the 5 adults in our party although there were only two 2-seater settees in the lounge which meant one of us had to sit on the floor. I would have willingly swapped 16 of the 22 knives and 16 of the 22 forks in the cutlery drawer for a pair of scissors and a few more power points would have been useful as would a washing up bowl. I understand that further renovations are due over the winter to increase the number of bedrooms and add another bathroom so I sure tweaking these little things will happen. Overall it gave us the best views we have ever had in over 30 years of renting holiday cottages in the UK, overlooking the River Fowey with its variety of bird life, and it was great to sit on the terrace in the evening and watch as the hundreds of geese flew past back down the estuary. In summary a great holiday enhanced by a great cottage.

Very good

  • 4 of 5

The property is in an excellent location, amazing views no matter what the weather. Lovely pub 1 minute walk away. A quiet and relaxing property. Another comfy seat in the lounge would be great as it is a little bit of a squash.

Gorgeous getaway

  • 5 of 5

If you want a lovely peaceful time in one of the most beautiful places in the UK, this cottage is for you. We sat and watched the world go by on our big TV screen, which was actually the front window! The property has everything you need and more. Perfect for 5 grown ups and a dog. The walks are stunning, everything very close by if you do want to leave the front room. Beaches, villages, ferries, supermarkets, train station all within a very short drive. I didn't want to leave!

Such a find.

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 of us. We stayed at the beginning of October and the moment we walked through the door we felt at home. The photos dont do this amazing hideaway justice and you could sit and look at the views of the water, the canoeists, rowers and sailors all day. We rented canoes, did woodland walks and were able to walk into Fowey! Such a lovely time. We are definitely going back . Thankyou!!
