Overview

About the property

1 double, 1 single bed, 1 bath in the old town

Palazzo Procida is located in the heart of baroque Palermo, a few meters from the Quattro Canti of the city, between the central Via Maqueda and Via del Ponticello, in a strategic position in the historic center of the city.

Palermo is a city able to offer local and trendy shops, traditional markets, impromptu gatherings, craft shops, all within a stunning backdrop created by the architectural and natural beauty.

Just opposite the Palace of Procida front door you will find the characteristic "Via the boilermakers' means tinkers, or" quararara ", are the artisans who produce braziers, pans, pots and other objects in copper, aluminum or bronze, which in this road had and have their shops. Among the many ways of the trades that existed in Palermo, this is one of the few that still retain their ancient function, preserving traditional shops from where the road takes its name.

Walking along the streets of Kassaro and the pedestrian precinct of Via Maqueda, as well as interesting from the point of view of architectural history, will also be amazing for gastronomic reasons: Palermo, in fact, is also the realm of street food, eat in Palermo In fact, not only simple, but also tasty. At every street corner you'll find sellers of bread and Panelle, or Sfincione, or the typical bread ca Meusa (bread with spleen).

A short walk from Palazzo Procida you will find the Four cities Canti which is the name of an octagonal square at the crossing of the two main roads of Palermo: Via Maqueda and the Cassaro, now Corso Vittorio Emanuele (ancient way of Phoenician origin, linking the Acropolis and the Norman Palace to the sea), in position with respect to the immense historical and artistic heritage of the city such as Piazza Pretoria, Palermo's Cathedral, the Norman Palace, the Teatro Massimo, the University and much more.

It is in this frame, about 750 meters from the Railway Station, is located Palazzo Procida, inhabited by Don Giuseppe Procida, Judge of the Consistory, which is located in Via del Ponticello, a short walk from the Ballarò quarter, and, more precisely, in Contrada of Kemonia, as well as a call already in Norman times. The Palace is situated close to major attractions of the city: Ballaro Market (300 meters), Piazza of Shame (200 meters), Cathedral (750 meters), the Church of Martorana (150 meters).

The area is served by several Bar, Pharmacy, local eateries, Spa and churches, in addition to the famous Ballaro Market.

Palazzo Procida has an elegant portal in gray marble, with columns in the round framing the front door; after crossing a wide arc, the entrance opens onto a paved cloister with gray limestone. The palace is NOT currently has a lift but the stairs leading to the various floors, covered with red marble, makes access to easy piuttosti plan.

Inside Palazzo Procida, on the second floor, there is the LOFT 1: a large open space with high ceilings with wooden beams, ceramic floors and large wooden shutters which make it very bright and that isolate the apartment from the city noise . The Loft is equipped with a typical kitchen made entirely of masonry. A wooden staircase leads to the large steel and loft, all made of iroko wood and supported by steel sections, where there is a double bed, a single bed and the bathroom. The accommodation is ideal for couples, lone adventurers and business travelers.

For its structure and especially for the presence of the loft, the loft is unfortunately not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Lovely apartment, central location

  • 4 of 5

The loft apartment is clean and very well presented with most of the amenities for a short stay. There are two balconies overlooking the street for watching the local culture as it passes below.

It is located very close to the Quattro Canti - a busy, pedestrianised area where tourists and locals promenade every evening. Lots of shops, restaurants and ice cream parlours. Get the bus from the airport and take a 10 minute walk up Via Maqueda to reach the apartment.

Wi-fi delivers around 4Mbs and was very reliable. The cold water tank makes a bit of noise when the taps or toilet are used, which can wake up others during the night. There is no washing machine but there is a laundrette close by, near the Lidl store on Via Roma. Lidl is a 500m walk for basic supplies and lots of smaller shops for specialities. No dishwasher but not a big deal, washing up as you go (mainly breakfast and snacks as there are so many good choices for eating out nearby).

The loft is above a few Bangladesh shops and cafes, so the smell of cooking can be a little overpowering on the balcony in the evenings. The apartment is double-glazed and noise is not a major issue, though Palermo is a very busy city, so be aware.

Air conditioning works well and there is a fan upstairs if it gets too stuffy.

The hosts are a lovely couple who really went out of their way to make our visit a success. They speak English enough to communicate and very helpful with questions, advice etc. Manuela waited in the loft for our arrival to show us around and kept in touch via this web site and SMS.

Overall, highly recommended for the price if you want to stay in a central location, full of local colour. Couldn't ask for better hosts.
