Relax and celebrate some of life's finest moments in our unique multi-leveled home offering beautiful architecture, welcoming décor, lush landscaping, expansive decking and gorgeous waterfront on Cayuga Lake. Located on Cayuga Lake between Ithaca and the charming little town of Aurora, our property is on Powers Road, fully paved, 2 lane road perfect for morning walks. We are on the east side (facing west) of Cayuga Lake, three miles above the end of the railroad. There is no railroad or street between our home and our stunning lake, with expansive views and breathtaking sunsets. We are in the heart of the farm country, on a generous lake front property that provides lots of quiet and privacy for your vacation. We are a true lake front home--you reach the lake down a flight of solid stone steps, across a bit of lawn to the beach. There is no drop off here-- the lake edge is perfect for waders of all ages, swimmers, as well as for launching the canoe, row boat and two kayaks that we provide for guests.
Our home is beautifully furnished and we have 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths with fresh linens and towels available along with other comforts. We can accommodate up to 11 guests in the available beds and 2 futons. There is a fully appointed kitchen with breakfast table looking out over the lake and 4 burner stove and double oven for feasts, as well as the new commercial sized outdoor grill for summer cookouts on the 30 foot wide veranda overlooking the lake.
We love waking up and sitting in our sunny kitchen that has a wall of windows overlooking our lake frontage. Savoring coffee and watching the water fowl, as well as the backyard birds at our feeders provides a gentle way to greet the day.
Our architecturally designed home with soaring ceilings and lake views from every room invites you to come relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings. This home was conceived and designed by Robbie Dein, artist and businessman, in 1992, and we have been thrilled to own and live in this lake front jewel since 2002.
The design of the home features high ceilings, windows and views across the lake-side expanse. The dining room, in the center section of the home, features a beech dining table able to seat up to 12. The kitchen provides a wall of wide open window views of the lake and grounds, and sliding glass doors directly onto the deep veranda, inviting family and friends to gather and visit before meals and to enjoy relaxed eating in the kitchen or on the veranda--often called a loggia (a room open on at least one side to the elements).
The loggia is a deep tiled and covered veranda done in a cool aqua motif that invites al fresco dining or evening drinks to catch the cool lake breezes. Formal table seating for 10+ is available on the veranda. Later, the stars come out and the soft night invites lazing in the patio furniture before bed.
A solid stone stairway winds gently down to the lake level where there is a grassy lawn and three steps down to the pebble beach. Kids and adults alike enjoy the 2 kayaks, our canoe that seats 3 or more, and our rowboat for water fun. A solid dock offers sunbathing, fishing, bird watching and a place to tie up your boat in the summer. Our property is right on the water. There is no road or railroad between you and Cayuga Lake (which is sometimes the case with Ithaca properties).
Both romantic and comfortable, our home has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The master bedroom and its en suite bath occupy the northern wing of the second floor. Sliding glass doors open onto our newly renovated generous upstairs deck, inviting relaxing time under the stars before bed. In the balmy months of July and August we've slept on this upper deck under the stars enjoying the soft breezes off the lake and sounds of the water's movement. During the day our upper deck is perfect for private sunbathing and enjoying the expansive lake front views.
The master bedroom has a wall of lakeside glass windows, peaked ceiling, and a king size bed; the bathroom has marble tile and a generous 2 person whirlpool bath in addition to shower and 2 sinks.
The southern second level wing features two intimate bedrooms; one containing a full sized bed, and the other bedroom containing a full sized loft bed with Jefferson stairway access, providing unparalleled views through the peaked lake front windows and direct upper deck access through more sliding glass doors. The loft bedroom also has a leather futon sofa that converts into a bed capable of sleeping an adult comfortably, or two small children.
The center section on the second floor of this unique home is the den and offers a comfortable sofa, television, library, wet bar, mini-fridge and more lake views as well as more sliding glass doors onto the upper deck.
The 'fourth' bedroom is on the first floor of our home and is our guests first choice when we have visitors. It is a private and cozy room providing a full sized bed and en suite bathroom with tub/shower. Guests find this room especially inviting and quiet, encouraging sleeping in and drowsing naps.
The main floor of our home center section is the formal dining room, but it can also quickly become a place where family can gather around the table for board games or a relaxed chat after dinner.
The small living room on the main floor has a full sized sofa that converts into a full sized bed comfortable for 2 adults if there is a large group. Another wide screen TV provides entertainment. There is a desk for those who want to set up a laptop to one side.
The landscaped grounds offer glimpses of local wild life (we have a wild 'yard bunny' and lots of birds).
Our home, and our piece of Cayuga Lake are here to welcome you and provide you with a wonderful vacation in one of the most beautiful regions in the east! Come and relax and recharge in this beautiful, comfortable home and enjoy all the best Cayuga Lake has to offer!
My husband and I moved from the Mid-Atlantic region in order to live on a lake. We fell in love with the Finger Lakes region and were incredibly fortunate to go house hunting just when this home came on the market. We have been here over 12 years now and never tire of this beautiful region full of variety. There is always another day trip or new activity. This region is warm and welcoming--people here are open and happy to meet visitors and newcomers.
Our jewel of a home is a vacation every day for us. For several years my husband would awaken in the morning asking 'do we have to check out yet?' We look forward to sharing our home, and sharing our gorgeous Finger Lakes with you.
Ginger Breggin purchased this house in 2002
We settled on this property because it fronts on clean and refreshing Cayuga Lake. Our unique, one of a kind jewel of a home, conceived by artist Robbie Dein and architecturally designed is an incredible bonus--like living inside a work of art. Our home feels both luxurious and deeply relaxing.
We love living in the middle of the rural countryside, where we can drive home past acres of sunflowers, or sweet corn and a sheep pasture. The local farms, the rolling hills, the ever changing skies and the beautiful summer weather made this region the perfect place to settle for us. The Finger Lakes region is a year round vacation!
This home offers a panoramic yet intimate relationship with Cayuga Lake. From your arrival at the front door you can see straight through the house to the breadth of the lake, the far shore and the ever changing sky line. We love this home for its one of a kind design, with wings that open like arms toward Cayuga Lake, inviting lake views into every room through the dozens of glass windows. Vacationing in the country provides great photography opportunities, of the views, the country roads, the country quiet and the friendly neighbors and people in this region. Since the first day we arrived, we have been welcomed and embraced by local friends and neighbors. The local wildlife are plentiful and charming, from the chipmunks and squirrels to the occasional deer and the plentiful birds from our friendly hummingbirds to the red tailed hawk pair or exciting glimpse of an American Eagle flying along the lake.
When you first walk down the sidewalk from the drive you instantly see that the owners have put a lot of effort and time into details. There was plenty of room for 8 of us (all adults) but house is kind of broken up into many small intimate areas, but we were able to gather together outside on the back patio/covered porch and the many other sitting areas outside. The dining table was large enough to accommodate all of us for meals, and even the smaller kitchen eating area was good for breakfast together.
The home is full of books, games and nice places to slip off to for quiet time. Although October is a little cold for the lake, we did take a quick canoe ride and loved that there were kayaks as well.
3-1/2 baths is always a good thing and if booking, remember that bedroom 4 is a loft, and better suited for young folks. The kitchen was well-equipped and all necessities available (ie; toilet tissue, hand soaps, tissues, etc)
We would highly recommend for other visitors, but only a couple of wineries and a brewery this side of the lake. The other side is not a bad drive and of course you have all of that beautiful scenery. The gorgeous sunsets were the main reason we chose this side of the lake and we weren't disappointed
i can't say enough good things about this beautiful home and the owners. The owner met us at the home when we first arrived and gave us a tour of the home, answering any questions we had. She even returned later with a bundle of firewood for the fire pit we asked about! What a special treat.
There were views of the lake from just about every room in the house. I was there with my extended family (Mom, brother, sister, husband, and children). There was something for everyone. The bedroom on the main floor was perfect for Grandma, the loft upstairs was a fun place for the youngest (12) member of our group, and the futons were just fine for the teenage and college boys. No one wanted to leave. We took full advantage of all the home had to offer: cooking on the grill, eating meals on the covered veranda, bonfires on the beach, swimming and boating on the lake, stargazing at night.
As suggested by the owners, we picked up needed groceries close to the Syracuse airport, and the house was fully stocked with all the essentials we needed to cook them. Special touches were found all over the house. A basket full of flashlights helped us enjoy the outdoors at nighttime. Sugar, tea, coffee, and creamer got our mornings off to a good start. There were plenty of books, games, and movies to entertain us, if we desired, but we were too busy soaking up the sun, stars and general beauty of the area. There were four boats to chose from - a rowboat, canoe, and two kayaks. The boys and I found the kayaks the easiest to maneuver and used them daily.
We were in town for a wedding at the Aroura Inn which was about 10 miles away. The town of Aroura was quaint with antique shopping, a small convenience store, and a wine tasting room as some of the highlights. There are several wineries in the area. We went to Treleaven Winery since it was only about a mile from the house and they were having a Field Day with games, bouncy houses, music, food trucks, and (obviously) wine tasting. It was a good time.
Honestly, i would have been content not leaving the house at all. It was a welcome retreat for the entire family. The house and property was big enough for anyone who wanted solitude to get away and have private time, but cozy and inviting enough to encourage togetherness. I highly recommend this home!
This is a beautiful house with breathtaking views. It's truly amazing, and reminded me of a mini Italian villa. There are stone steps behind the house that take you down to the waterfront, and some of the steps may be a bit steep for those with walking difficulties, but our family (3 kids aged 16, 15 & 9) had no problems. There is a dock and a tiny "beach" with a lot of smooth skipping stones and tiny shells to find. One can easily wade into the water to swim.
The house is well-appointed and decorated with much detail, care, and thoughtfulness. Really appreciated all the little decorative touches, the painted tile in the bathrooms, and the extensive collection of books, games, and DVDs available. There is really something for every age/taste range.
Also, there is comfortable, multi-purpose furniture throughout the house and outside. The property owner, Ginger, is extremely responsive and friendly, and even called about an hour or so before we arrived to let us know that there had been a plumber there the day before to fix a previous toilet issue. She was available via email, phone, and text, and I can't fault her responsiveness at all.
Only issue: The water pressure was weak and unreliable. Not sure if it was weak when more than one faucet/shower was being used at a time in the house, or whether it was the filter for the water, but there were several times when the water slowed to a drip and simply stopped altogether. We let Ginger know, and she came promptly with someone to re-adjust and clean the water filters. That seemed to improve things, but it was still did not remedy the problem entirely. We didn’t reach out to her again, because we were able to live with it.
This place has some amazing windows. Huge, floor-to-ceiling windows, with lots of beautiful trees outside. There is a huge upper deck/balcony and a covered veranda that is luxurious. There are many bird feeders that attract all sorts of birds. It’s not clear from the photos of the property, but it is worth noting that the view of the lake from the house is slightly obscured by the beautiful trees. It’s still a beautiful view, but you get trees also in that lake view.
All in all, it was an amazing place rented by lovely people. We had a fantastic time.
We stayed here for five days for a family getaway. We originally wanted to stay closer to Ithaca, but there weren't any large houses available then. It all worked out because we definitely didn't even have the urge to leave the house. The house was infinitely better in person and the pictures don't really do the lakefront justice which was a pleasant surprise. We played lawn games on the lake lawn and had smores; it was perfect! We spent most of our time on the large deck which had space for the whole family.
We kayaked up and down from the house and agreed that this was the best lakefront and house around. You definitely have more privacy than the other houses. There is one rental next door, but there were times that we were the only ones on the lake which was very peaceful. The water was very warm and very shallow in parts which was excellent for my sister's two young kids. You won't regret bringing water shoes.
No one in our party slept in the loft bed because it was a bit precarious. It was in a room in of itself, so her small child slept in the downstairs part on the little futon instead so that worked out too. In all, the space was generous and it was an ideal family space both inside and out.
Ginger was delightful in her communication, and I couldn't recommend her or her home more.
The house had everything needed to enjoy the week.
The kitchen was well equipped. All that was needed was food and
clothing. The double oven was especially useful for cooking.
The house air conditioning was welcomed. I liked
the feature that the air conditioning was zoned for each room.
We rented a boat and went across the lake to a winery as well as to
the Aurora Inn. Early morning canoeing and kayaking was enjoyable and peaceful.
The patio was used extensively used and accommodated
friends and family that visited. The barbeque grill worked well to prepare
meals. I would definitely recommend the house as a place to enjoy a week
on Cayuga lake.
This was the first vacation in several years where we could truly relax. The grounds were tranquil, the view spectacular, and the environment private. Additionally, while Internet was available, it was a bit slower than what those living in the cities are used to. That, and the regionally spotty cell reception, made this the first vacation our family has truly "unplugged" from work in a few years. Our family focused on the experience, instead of our electronic devices, and returned to work refreshed and invigorated. We forgot what real vacation should be, and this wonderful secluded getaway reminded us. We'll be coming back, for sure!
We are located right between Ithaca and Aurora, on the east side of 2 mile wide Cayuga Lake. Our home is so gorgeous you may never want to take a drive--but if you do, there are numerous inviting day trips both north and south of our property. At home, the sunsets are stunning, and our home is surrounded by nature. Our house opens toward the lake as though embracing it; and is refreshed by evening breezes all summer. We often feel as though we're on an ocean as the wind picks up waves; clouds, when present, seem to add to the beauty and no two days are the same.
Our home, a one of a kind design, is in one of the most picturesque settings in the Finger Lakes, with charming rural scenes, farms, woods, and miles and miles of lake views if you go for a drive. At our home we have kayaks, a canoe, and waterfront for swimming, fishing and other water activities. The Don's Marina is just down our street, offering boating and jet ski services.
Inviting wineries belonging to The Cayuga Wine Trail are nearby. Treleaven by King Ferry Winery is 1 mile from our home. Going north along the east side of Cayuga Lake brings you to the delightful and lovingly restored town of Aurora, Wells College, and the destination shopping spot, MacKenzie-Childs. There is more shopping in town, including the fabulous women's clothing boutique, Jane Morgan's Little House.
At the north end of the lake you can visit Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge -- with some of the best birding in the region featuring walking trails, a ranger station and a driving tour of the park and its wild residents.
Heading south from out home leads you to the town of Lansing and the city of Ithaca. Lansing has an inviting local Myers Park, offering swimming, a marina next door, free Thursday night concerts in the summer, and a great playground for youngsters.
Continue south to Ithaca, with its tremendous diversity of activities and offerings, from local festivals, museums, 3 live theater venues, lots of music, dozens of restaurants, bars, and more. Natural hiking trails and water falls are plentiful, including Buttermilk Falls, Robert H. Treman, or Taughannock State Parks.

**A final note about the “service fee” in the billing. That “service fee” is charged by VRBO.com and is charged to all travelers (as a percentage of their rental) to cover costs of the VRBO network. That money does not come to me in any way and has nothing to do with my specific rental.
