Walk up the curved black iron staircase to your luxury penthouse retreat in the very center of Old Hilo Town. The best ocean view in downtown. Wonderful used book store in the basement and a truly nice cafe on the ground floor for breakfast or lunch. Cafe Pesto fine dining is a block away. The historic Palace Theater is our neighbor. Lyman Museum is about four blocks away. Walk to the Merry Monarch Hula Festival. Amazing shops around every corner. Oh, don't let me forget Keawe Street Kafé for amazing local fusion cuisine in our building or Moonstruck Bakery a couple of doors down the street. Like Japanese food? Ocean Sushi Deli is at the other end of our block. Hawaii's best used books and classic records many with Hawaiian titles in our basement at Still Life Books.

Unequaled views and access to everything Hilo Town has to offer.
Constructed of beautiful Hawaiian woods by the finest craftsmen and vaulted ceilings provide a warm inviting luxury residence that is close to everything. The large loft bedroom provides a treetop view of beautiful Hilo Bay!
I stayed at Blake’s Loft for 5 weeks. If want to be centrally located, this is the place to be. It’s close to everything; restaurants, supermarkets, shops…
The loft is clean and well equipped. If you do need anything extra, do not hesitate to ask Kirk, and he will be more than happy to provide it for you.
Parking has become a bit more challenging than it used to be, but I was always able to find a spot.
KTA stores are across the street but they can be very pricey! BTW everything is Hawaii is overpriced! Food is 70% more expensive than the mainland so I recommend going to Target or Wal-Mart for groceries – both are a short drive away. As far as restaurants go, I recommend Hilo Bay Café- great food made with locally grown ingredients.
Do rent a car to move around. You will be able to explore wonderful sites around Hilo such as:
- National volcano park- you need at least 3 days
- Manua Kea – day and night (amazing stargazing)
- Kalapana- Go to uncle Roberts Awa bar on Wednesdays
- Akaka Falls and kole kole beach park- The whole Hamakua Coast is breathtaking.
- Green sands beach- about 2hrs south of Hilo but it’s a must!
If you want to do tours, try Hawaii Forest & Trail Adventures.
The only con (which has nothing to do with the loft) is that Hilo is swamped by homeless. Most of them are harmless but a lot of them frequent the Hilo tavern, which is across the street from the loft, and it can get a bit loud at night.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay, Kirk was the perfect host and I will definitely stay here again.
LOVED the apartment! Well laid out and so cute! If downtown is what you're looking for, this is a perfect location to walk to everything,. Make reservations at Paul's Cafe for breakfast - the best! Be sure to walk the farmer's market in the morning as well. Go to Pinneapples for dinner, entertainment and a drink. Sunrises are breathtaking from the windows in the morning. Try the Kava Bar directly accross the street for a great experience - it will definitely detox you.
Caution - if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs for early morning dump trucks and roosters. There are a lot of stairs and a ladder to the bed in the loft. I personally loved it, but my boyfriend who had to lug baggage was not thrilled with me. Parking on the street after 4 p.m. otherwise only 2 hour parking from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. This worked for us since we were ziplining, on a helicopter ride, going to the black sand beach (a must), exploring Mauna Kea (bring a jacket but totally gorgeous above the clouds at sunset and the most amazing view of the stars I have ever seen!).
Overall, it was a fabulous experience on the big island. We stayed on the Kona side 3 days at Snell's Coffee Farm (amazing) and 3 days Hilo side. The only regret we had when in Hilo is not going to the green sand beach. We didn't start early enough in the day and didn't realize it is a 2 1/2 mile hike by foot or you need a 4X4 but I hear it is worth it. We will definitely be back!
Mahalo so much for a great stay! This property is in a great location around great places to eat and shops.Very clean and the host returns your calls and emails quickly. I recommend this property to anyone that's okay with stairs. We loved it !!! Can't wait till we return again .
Parking wasn't as bad as I was worried it would be. There's a little lot with a bunch of tour vans. We parked there for the entire stay and never had trouble getting a spot-- plus it was nice to be able to see our car from the condo.
We were there during a lot of festivities and on the weekend. We slept with the windows opened, so we could hear the parades and the bars. It kept us up until about midnight when everything closed down, but we didn't mind at all. We just slept in and had lazy mornings.
The little box of chocolates and biscotti was an extra nice touch, and we enjoyed them every night after dinner and every morning with our coffee. It was nice and clean and Kirk answered the phone right away when I called to ask about parking. Other than just that little question about the parking, we had every thing we needed in the condo.
The washer and dryer are top of the line and were very much appreciated! We loved shopping at the markets and just ambling around town. It was right next to a grocery store, which made it really nice to just leave the car parked the whole time we were there.
This was our 2nd visit to the big island and our choice to stay in Blakes Loft was a gift.
So central in old town - there are restaurants (especially the Thai restaurant Chang mai) shops and a supermarket within no distance to the comfortable super clean and well equiped condo.
We loved Hilo and coming home to Blakes loft after a big day of sightseeing made everything extra special.
My partner and I very much enjoyed our stay at Blake's Loft for five nights in downtown Hilo in January-February 2016.
Simply put this property is in a fantastic location in the heart of Hilo Town.
The loft bedroom and its accompanying ladder would not be suitable for a very elderly or physically challenged person but my partner and I loved the way this space is set up. Functional and modern kitchen, comfortable bed, large bathroom and uber private.
The one thing we wished was that some outdoor space (a small balcony over the roof?) could be developed but we spent most of day time out and about in Hilo Town so this was not a big deal.
Check out Coconut Island for swimming and sun bathing, don't miss the Botanical Garden just north of Hilo, and enjoy the shops all with in walking distance.
For eats Ocean Sushi can't be beat and Ken's Pancake House is worth the long walk (about 45 minutes each way).
