Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Tower

This 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin is cozy and romantic. (We call it The Honeymoon Cabin!) Nestled in the North Woods, on the shore of Lake Vermilion, its pine interior is homey and warm, and French doors open onto a deck that looks out over the lake. The kitchen is compact, but fully outfitted with a refrigerator, oven/stove, microwave, toaster oven, and coffeemaker.

You'll want to spend most of your time on the lake, but for those of us who can't quite leave the rest of the world behind, there's cable tv and WiFi. (Please note that the ancient TV pictured has been replaced!)

The cabin itself has 1 bedroom with a queen bed. For an additional fee ($30/night, $35 cleaning fee), you can access the charming bunkhouse on the shoreline, which sleeps 3. The bunkhouse has an enclosed chem toilet. There's also a cute outhouse up the hill. You'll also enjoy the sauna, which is shared with one other cabin.

The driveway of this cabin can accommodate one boat trailer. (Getting a trailer in and out requires some care, as the gravel road is not wide.) Boats can be put in the lake at Moccasin Point or at Greubens, both of which are very nearby.

We do NOT have a fire pit, and do not allow outside fires. There is often a high risk of fire, as we are in the woods. We DO provide a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking.

There are loads of attractions and activities nearby-- the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary, the International Wolf Center, Fortune Bay Casino, shopping in Ely, fishing guides, mailboat rides, hiking, tours of the Soudan Mine, and much more.

This cabin is on the same road as our other two rental cabins. The VRBO numbers for those cabins are 809128 and 671102. This cabin is next door to 671102 and one lot away from 809128. If you have a larger group and want to rent more than one cabin, we have special rates.

This cabin is SEASONAL ONLY. It is not available for rent after Sept. 30 or before May 1.

About Sarah Fain

My mom bought this cabin from the original owner, who was a neighbor and friend, in the '90's. She lovingly refurbished and decorated it. I've spent many happy summers there. I'm a writer, and it's the perfect spot for quiet reflection and work-- while still being an ideal launching pad for a busy day exploring the lake and the woods.

What makes this cottage unique

The bunkhouse makes this cabin even more special. It was built by the original owner of the cabin, with the help of several of the original owners on the road-- including my great-uncle. It's right on the water, and my mom spent many hours making it a unique, comfortable getaway.

Wonderful respite

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful 3 night stay in the cabin. What a relaxing and peaceful setting. The cabin, as others have said, is just the right size for two. We had beautiful weather. Spent one afternoon tooling around the lake in a "very used but adequate and affordable" pontoon we rented at Grubers Marina. Be sure to check them out! The extra plus was being able to bring our elderly cocker spaniel who enjoyed his vacation as well.

Wonderful Property!

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely cabin. Everything is clean & well kept. The main cabin is perfect for 2 people. The bunkhouse is also lovely & works well for extra people. We had a pair of humming birds visit us several times every day. And the caretakers, Cindy & John visited us our first night to be sure everything was in order. We will be back!

Great Property!

  • 5 of 5

Came here on a solo vacation. Must say that I had the greatest time ever. You have more than enough privacy and not to far away from anything you need. The dock located on the property was great for fishing if you dont feel like travelling out on the lake. I also really enjoyed the canoe and kayak they had on the property to putz around the lake when you want to take a relaxing little paddle along the lake. The caretakers of the property were extremely nice and answered all the questions I had. I would highly recommend this cabin if you want to get away, relax, fish, and enjoy Lake Vermilion. Awesome cabin!

Awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great time here. It's right on the lake off of a private road with boat launch near by. The caretakers are very nice and we had no issues at all! Highly recommend.

You will love this cozy cabin!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about how cute this place is! Small and cozy and has everything you need for a a great stay. It's in a great location on the lake. I loved the bunkhouse. It would have been nice to have a fire pit but the deck is a great place to hang out and watch the stars. One word of warning if you have a boat/trailer. It's a very tight turn to get into the driveway and no space to turn around in the parking area with a trailer.

Small but lovely cabin with charming bunkhouse on the shore

  • 5 of 5

The owner was helpful with emailed questions prior to our arrival. The caretakers were friendly, having checked in with us upon arrival to ensure everything was okay. The cabin was quite small but cozy for two, and fully equipped with everything we needed... except matches to light the charcoal grill. We remedied that, and left a big box of wooden matches there for future guests. The deck facing the water through the trees was my favorite thing about this cabin. A lovely place to enjoy quiet morning coffee while birdwatching and sipping wine while listening to loonsong throughout the evening. There was a canoe and two-person kayak available by the private dock for our use as well, which was a nice surprise as they were not mentioned in the original listing. I wish there had been an outdoor fire pit or ring, but because the lot is rather wooded, I suppose a fire ring may not be suitable. Otherwise our stay was lovely. And the bunkhouse with its extensive library was an added charm, and I imagine it'd be fun for kids or teens to sleep there, right by the shore. There are a few nice easy hikes in nearby parks which we enjoyed exploring with our two elderly dogs. I highly recommend hiking to the Kiwishiwi Falls, and also exploring the Soudan Underground Mine State Park. Oh, and pick up bacon and bratwurst from Zups in Tower. You won't regret it!
