Old world charm on eight acres of wooded grounds right on the lake
About Martha McKay
The Snowden House was built by my grandparents, Bob and Grace Snowden. In 2005, I bought the property from my family and spent several years restoring it to its present condition. While we were born at Horseshoe Lake, we grew up in San Francisco and traveled back to Horseshoe Lake every summer during our childhood, which instilled a deep and abiding love for the home and all of the happy memories there. For my guests who come to stay at Snowden House, I am available to cater your meals for you if you wish. I love to cook, and can prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner as per your request. Also, please be aware that I live in my own private quarters on the third floor of the home and am available to help with any questions about the area, but also am able to give you full privacy, as per your wishes.

Why Martha McKay chose Hughes
It is an honor and a privilege to have been able to restore this unique, beautiful family home and now to offer it to visitors to experience southern charm and hospitality in the true traditional style. Experience the tranquility of the bucolic surroundings, with the old oak trees and the Bald Cypress gracing the bank of the lake, Snowden House offers all of the amenities of modern living while maintaining the simple elegance of a stately, southern mansion.

Loved this home, such a peaceful feel the minute you walk through the door! Its like the history of this home wraps you in its arms.
Martha is such a peaceful soul and is so very welcoming! Loved our stay there!!
Music Festival Lodging
Second stay at this luxurious lakeside retreat was a quiet reprieve from 4 days of blues music festival. Beautiful sunrises over Horseshoe Lake. Late night gatherings on the upstairs screen porch. Commercial
kitchen. Friendly owner/hostess. Can recommend Roadside BBQ on I-40 just a few miles north, after you visit Albert King’s gravesite in Edmondson.
Charming Historic Southern Home
We had a wonderful stay. Martha is an excellent hostess making our stay unforgettable. The home is a real gem on the lake. Great getaway within an hour of Memphis.
Thank you to you and your wonderful family for choosing Snowden House for your 'stay-cation'. I enjoyed having you all here and especially that your experience fulfilled your expectations. You are welcome back anytime!
This place is amazing and the character and historical value is impressive. The property is perfectly taken care of and Martha is the best hostess and makes sure you have everything you need throughout your stay. We had a great family vacation there and would love to go back!
A beautiful piece of history.
Martha was a perfect host during our stay. It was so interesting to hear about her family and this beautiful historical house. We spent two very relaxing days enjoying the comfort and space of the house along with amazing views of the lake. A perfect break from all our driving.
We would highly recommend . Thank you Martha.
Great Historic House
We had nine women going on a girls’ trip to Memphis for the weekend and we stayed at the Snowden House so we would have room to do things as a group in the evenings. This is a large historic house on a beautiful lake that has great ambiance. We knew that we would have a 30 minute drive to and back from Memphis but we were okay with that. Martha is a great friendly hostess who makes sure her guests are comfortable. We enjoyed talking to her. The accommodations were great for our large group with plenty of bathrooms and plenty of areas to relax in. We really enjoyed staying here!
