Would advise hiring a car to get around Scilla
Cannot fault the accmodation, hospitality was excellent, would like to thank Toni and his family for having us all, also for his speciality and bottles of wine which we enjoyed. Like to thank Marco for all his help and adviseing us on getting to places in scilly.
To host Alison and her friends, was a fantastic experience, thanks to their sympathy and cordiality it was easy to make them feel at home. On their arrival they donated us a wonderful gift from their beautiful island, I hope they come back again to visit those places that have remained unexplored, for now I recommend them to everyone as good guests respectfuls of the rules and fantastic People.
It has all been said in other reviews but the hospitality of Santa, Tony and Marco cannot be overstated. Our 5 year old twins fell in love with them. Tony's cooking is simply genius, Santa provides, what appears to be, effortless patience and Marco is a mine of local information and good humour. I suspect we'll be back.
Hello Thomas, Lucy, Jude and Alois it's wonderful to hear you, thanks to the beautiful words, it was wonderful to know you and your wonderful family. I hope to see you soon, in the meantime I hope that you once again will bring a piece of Sicily in your heart :)
A warm hug from Sicily 🌻🌻🌻

Felt like a local
We arrived in the small town of Acireale after a white knuckle ride in the hire car from Catania airport to find really nice and welcoming people who made you feel like they knew you. The apartment was spacious, clean and had everything you needed it was also close to town centre in easy walking distance. Toni, Sandro and Marco were always at hand if you needed them but not if you didn't and Toni's cooking was amazing along with some local tasters. Thanks Toni, Sandro and Marco you made the holiday.
Hi Robert, it was nice to meet you, you're really sunny and positive people, for us it was a pleasure to welcome you. come in Acireale when you want, so much you are like home now:)

Very comfortable. Excellent hosts!
Comfortable - we had everything necessary.
Not fancy but very comfortable with wonderfully kind people
Comfortable and clean with a big bright bedroom and lovely small courtyard. Everything you could need is supplied. The layout is a little odd but we quickly got used to it. Be warned - the walk into town for groceries is very steep and quite long. Street parking at the house was always available although we are glad we took full insurance as the car was scraped. The streets are very narrow! Tony cooked for us once and it was delicious. The family are available but not intrusive. My only small disappointment was there is no view at all. Just a drab wall across the street. But overall a great find for exploring eastern Sicily.
A house made special by its host... Ciao Antonio
Firstly I would like to thank Antonio, Marco and Santa who were welcoming, generous, helpful and fun. They live next door and were a shout away if we wanted them, but they never intruded unless we arranged it. If Antonio offers to cook for you, take him up on it.He is an excellent cook sourcing fresh food from Catania market and bringing local snacks and pastries. At the end of the week he added up the cost and I definitely feel he undercharged us.
The house conforms to its description. It has a wonderful large bedroom leading out into a courtyard, the rest is spacious except a small. single bedroom, our children slept in the lounge. The house is tucked away in a quiet corner of Acireale, very few cars go by . There is a train line nearby ; the trains are almost all small (2 carriages) and infrequent. None of us were disturbed by them. We were able to park on the street near the house. Our car was in car hire terms a 'compact' This was too big for the fiendishly narrow streets and tight corners of Sicilian towns .Northern European rules do not apply to Sicilian driving but somehow everybody seems to get from A to B without incident.
Acireale maintains some of its former elegance but mostly its crumbling like most of southern Italy. There are few tourists and the locals, to us were all friendly and helpful. Visiting Taormina it was a shock to be surrounded by thousands of tourists. The amphitheatre is breathtaking but the town was unbearable. The beach below Taormina is beautiful but you have to keep saying no to people wanting to sell you something. Acireale's local beach, Santa Maria La Scala is a stunning walk but it is more of a slipway for fishermen than something you would lie on. The best beaches we found were south of Catania. I liked Catania, my partner didn't; she was driving. Get the train. Etna calls but it is only worth going up if it is clear You get charged alot of money just to see 10 yards. We (including a 9 and 10 year old walked from the top of the cable car to the highest accessible point, its not challenging. We liked Sicily ; the locals are friendly, quieter than other Italians, there are lots to see and do near to a passable beach and there is chaos.
We are happy to have hosted a fantastic family as you, we hope to have you as guests again in the future. a hug by Santa and Tony
Among the streets of one of the most ancient and typical areas of the historic center of Acireale, The Sunflower is the house, located near the beautiful eighteenth-century descent in lava stone, now a nature reserve of Timpa, leading to the volcanic beach of the small village of Santa Maria La Scala. The house Consists of kitchen, comfortable bathroom, large living room, small room with bed, double bedroom and a courtyard suitable for outdoor relaxation and taste tipical local plates and barbecue, is suitable for stays of couples and families, and Those Who want know about the wonders of eastern Sicily. The Piazza del Duomo, onto Which some of the most important buildings of the city, including the Cathedral Church, the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, is the starting point to see the palaces That overlook the main street and savor the local delicacies, historic bars characteristics of the place.
The Catania Fontanarossa airport is just thirty minutes, and the house is located between Syracuse and Taormina.
