Peacock's Rest is a relaxing everyday type home that's ready for you to come relax, explore, enjoy and make new friends. My house is a traditional shotgun style home where you literally walk through one room to get to the end of the house. However, the dining room, kitchen (no dishwasher) and bathroom are located at the back of the house. Each bedroom has a door that grants some privacy . There are 3 bedrooms with 1 king, 1 queen and 1 full bed. House comfortably sleeps 5 ( in beds), however, remember, there’s only 1 bathroom.
Gleaming hardwood floors, high ceilings, comfy beds , central air/heat.
I live about 5 blocks from the house and can be reached immediately .
The Carrolton section of New Orleans is a historic mixed residential/commercial neighborhood where locals have lived all their lives. Many houses are getting a complete renovation while others remain untouched for many years. Often renters or extended family live in one side of a shotgun double with owner living right next door. The neighborhood has a lot of small businesses, including barber shop, comic store ,book store ,eclectic finds, restaurants, Maple Leaf bar, fresh breads. The food and shopping make it a great way to spend the day and then jump on the streetcar to the French Quarter and beyond.
4 blocks to Carrollton Avenue street car.- slow ride to the French Qrt - can take 30-40 minutes but you get to enjoy the beautiful homes on St Charles Ave. Taxi cost you about $15 to the French Qtr.These places can be found nearby

A few friends and I stayed at Peacock's Rest one night during a long weekend in New Orleans. If we hadn't had other arrangements for the first couple of nights, we would have been more than excited to stay here. This home is beautiful and exactly as it was described on the site. Tom is a fabulous and extraordinarily cordial host. The place was very clean and had all of the amenities you could ask for. Tom had plenty of good recommendations and notes up on the board in the kitchen for our stay. We slept four in the house very comfortably - each with our own bed/couch. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to stay outside of the bustle of downtown. The neighborhood is nice and quiet with friendly neighbors. It's close to the St. Charles street car, so getting downtown is relatively easy. A cozy space and great hosts! I'd come back any day. Thanks Tom and Susan for such a lovely stay and for your hospitality.
We enjoyed our stay in this house. The house itself is great. It is clean (a huge factor for me), plenty of room for us (2 couples), comfortable beds, and extremely well equipped with everything we could have needed or even wanted including drinks and snacks!! I was not prepared for the neighborhood though. The area is in the process of re-gentrification. There are numerous houses in the area that are boarded up and/or in great need of repairs. When we first got there we were worried about our safety in the neighborhood. After staying there I will say I did NOT feel unsafe at any time. It is farther from the streetcar stop than I had expected, but we drove to the area where the stop was and parked on the street for free then rode the streetcar into town. Even though I never felt unsafe in the area I would not have walked from the streetcar stop back to the house at night. Since we drove to the streetcar stop it was not a problem. We also had peaceful, quiet nights so the neighborhood turned out to be better than I expected. The owners were very friendly and helpful. After this stay I would stay in this house again.
The house is classic shotgun New Orleans but spacious and clean. It's close to some yummy eats and the streetcar with easy access from the highway. Tom was a great host and very helpful. We had a good trip!
My friends and I really enjoyed our stay this past weekend at Peacock's Rest. The house was well equipped and perfect for the 5 of us! The area had plenty of awesome restaurants, bars, and coffee shops that were walkable from the house. Plus, it was a short 20 minute Uber ride to the French Quarter. Thanks for everything!
We had a wonderful visit in this recently renovated shotgun with spacious rooms and great location near Oak Street.
House is cute, clean, comfortably sleeps 6-8. great location to walk to restaurants and shops or grab the trolley. The owners were friendly and amazingly accomodating! They even brought us a king cake for Mardi Gras. Would recommend this property to anyone and everyone, and will stay there again if it is available the next time I am in New Orleans.
What a beautiful, clean 3 bedroom home. I cooked a full Christmas dinner for the entire family on the gas stove using the pots and pans and bowls in the furnished kitchen. The family then enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the fixin's at the long antique table.
The entire home was as clean as a hospital surgery room, just remarkable. Used the provided modern washer and dryer too, and hung the hangables on the clothes line with the provided clothes pins. Everything you need is there with tons of closet space and large comfortable beds. The large flat screen TV was great even though some premium channels would be a nice addition. Some great restaurants are very close and a great Mississippi River view is less than 10 minutes away at Audubon Park.
Just a wonderful experience with great hosts in friendly and so very beautiful New Orleans. (Close to the fantastic 1920's Street Cars too for a $1.25 ride to downtown. Disney has nothing over this ride)
