The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed and will sleep two adults. A rustic cabin themed bathroom is located just across the hall on the first floor.

Continuing with the rustic theme of our home, this area is complete with pine bead board wainscoting and natural slate flooring..

quiet and relaxing weekend with my adult children

  • 5 of 5

It was so nice to visit with two or my children and their spouses. So good to get away. Loved the view of the lake with the fall foliage. The house was charming and clean, with room enough for us to spread out and relax, talk and play a few games and eat together on the large kitchen table. Owner returned emails promptly. Would stay again and would definitely recommend if you are looking for peace and quiet.

Cozy, beautifully kept lakehouse

  • 5 of 5

We (2 couples and 4 children aged 4-7) really enjoyed our stay here. This was an ideal choice for a quiet family vacation with young kids: the house is right on the water, has an ample flat, grassy lawn, a private beach with sandy area extending well into a warm, shallow lake perfect for young swimmers, and a cozy kids' bedroom with night lights, 4 bunks and a double bed. Minor quibble - the upper bunks have no railings, so if your kids are young and/or squirmy in their sleep, bring some sort of railings (I improvised one on the spot using PVC pipes and kayak tie-downs), or an inflatable bed rail (like Shrunks brand). The master bedroom was spacious and comfortable, and the large windows were great. We fell asleep to the Perseid meteors streaking over the lake. Bathrooms were all clean, well-stocked, and felt like-new. The large walk-in shower in the master bath was beautifully done, and at 6'4" I didn't have to stoop my head down to wash my hair as I often must in showers. The kitchen has a really excellent gas stove and a decent amount of counter space, and is fairly well stocked, although I could have used a few more kitchen implements, for example basic kitchen tongs, and there were plenty of mugs, tumblers, and stemware but no juice glasses. Again, it's a minor quibble.

The neighborhood (at least during our stay in early August 2016) was very quiet. It's in a private development with unpaved roads, so there is no fast traffic zooming around, and the scene at the lake seemed fairly mellow, with only a handful of jetskis and motorboats. You will have to bring or rent your own paddlecraft (we rented kayaks from a place in New London), but the lake is a pretty decent paddle, albeit a bit breezy, and there are a few interesting little coves to explore. It's fairly shallow, warm, and very weedy, but I managed to find a few rocky areas just north of the house that yielded a few bass and a bunch of yellow perch.

The owner, Joe, was very friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely interested in sharing the place with us. When I texted him with questions during our stay, he responded very promptly, and when I informed him that the garbage bin out back was full upon our arrival, he had it taken care of within a few hours. I would definitely consider returning to this property, and I would recommend this place for a comfortable, quiet, outdoors-oriented vacation with family and/or close friends.

Great Lake house

  • 5 of 5

Visited Joe's lake house in early August 2016, had a beautiful day, so we started swimming immediately after unpacking. The lake is clear and has a mostly sandy bottom for about 15-20 ft out, after that it's a little mucky with some weeds with spots of clear muddy areas. Lake is shallow, maybe 6ft deep at 100ft away from shore, perfect for all of the kids we had with us (3-7). Pictures of the house are spot on, open concept, it looks great and the furniture is comfortable. The kitchen layout is efficient and the appliances look brand new, all worked flawlessly. The beds and linens were comfortable, kids loved the bunk beds. The three full baths and the bedroom layout made it easy for the two families to enjoy our stay. Two and a half days of rain made the trip a little challenging but swimming in the rain was fun and the kids keep busy with movies, games and some toys. The driveway and lawn where not a problem at all during our stay. The association offers some hiking trails and there is a state park down the road if you want more. Once the rain had gone everyday was spent in the water, house has great yard to sit or play outdoors. The fires in the evening where great for s'mores. Gas grill on deck was great for dinners and the deck is nice to overlook the lake and relax. Great time and great house Thanks Joe

Our family had a fantastic vacation in Washington, NH

  • 5 of 5

First let me say I had not heard of Washington, NH until I saw Joe's beautiful house on VRBO. Joe was kind enough to meet me and show me the house before we rented it. It was everything he advertised. It was modern, very well kept, had the necessary ingredients my family needed and wanted in a vacation home. We needed 3 bedrooms with queen size beds as my grown children are married and now we are 6 adults. The men get warm so air conditioning was a necessity. The house was steps away from the lake with a private beach area. The best part was being able to bring our dogs which are part of our family.

We rented kayaks and a canoe and enjoyed early morning excursions on the lake. It was quiet and at times we were the only boats on it. Joe has a fire pit on the beach which was fun to sit around and make s'mores.

Joe is very easy to get in touch with and helpful. Our family cooked together in the spacious well stocked kitchen. We brought groceries with us and had fun cooking. Eating on the beautiful deck and watching the sunset was amazing. We played games in the homey den and watched movies. It truly lent itself to family time. We brought our bikes and rode them to the tennis court.

We went to the New London Barn and saw a show. The performance was very professional and enjoyable. One day we drove to Sunappee Harbor which wasn't far away. The location was great for us. We had privacy yet could get to places we wanted to visit.

We took a vote and the consensus is we make this wonderful place our annual family get-a-way. We made great memories and came home refreshed. Thank you Joe for sharing your home with our family.

Great get-away!

  • 4 of 5

We celebrated Christmas in New Hampshire! The house was perfect for hosting family. Open floor plan, high end kitchen, great fireplace/stove and plenty of room. The view is mesmerizing, the surround sound great while staying cozy by the fireplace. The baths are perfect! We did wish there was a "guest book" to let us know the highlights of the house, area activities and shops.

Two drawbacks are 1) the landscaping is poor. Very sandy and messy. We had planned outdoor activities but were unable to enjoy them. And 2) the lovely Master has no blinds on the great picture window so sleeping soundly is a big issue, especially with a Christmas full moon!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. I take any issues as constructive criticism that can only help me improve the stay for the next guest – lets address a few things: 1st – we do in fact have a sand and gravel driveway (as does everyone in our association) – during your stay, it was 60-65 degrees over the holiday weekend and rained every day….so I think its fair to assume that sand + water will create mud…as in, the mess referred to in your review. It might have been better to play your family holiday games in the front yard which is grass. Needless to say, I will look into bringing in a different type of driveway base so that it’s firmer during wetter periods. 2nd – With respect to a guest book, I am in complete agreement and I will work on putting this together….it’s a great suggestion. 3rd – The lack of a blind / curtain on our expansive picture window in the master bedroom is personal preference. To me, there is nothing like waking up to a view of the lake....or catching the moon at night (also, I am an early rise). That being said, I will be installing curtains to address this. Like I said above, your comments are very helpful and will only make future stays for you and other guests more enjoyable. I really appreciate it and we look forward to having your family back. Best Regards, Joe

peaceful family getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice, with plenty of space for our family of 5. Very comfortable beds, great bathrooms, nice kitchen. My teen boys were thrilled to have a weight room in the basement, that was a nice bonus for them. The lake was beautiful and very peaceful. We enjoyed the waterfront each day, and had a fire each night to roast s'mores. Overall a great getaway!
