Washington is a town w ~800 people -- so if you're looking for a quiet getaway that also 20 mins away from civilization, this is it!
We spent a winter week at this property and had a wonderful time. Views of the frozen lake are absolutely stunning. The house is well-equipped, nicely laid out for groups and offers a good mix of private and community space. We are foodies and spent a good deal of time cooking and hanging out, and the open kitchen/living area were perfect for this. Joe was accessible for all our questions and needs and extremely gracious throughout our stay. Great location, outstanding host- we will be back!
We had a great time at this beautiful lakeside house. The house is wonderfully decorated and has all the amenities. We went in the fall so we couldn't enjoy the lake, but the views were still spectacular.
We loved the quiet of this secluded house, but it is a trip to go pretty much anywhere so it is something to keep in mind. That being said we can't wait to go back in the summer and get the most out of the lake.
We had a wonderful long weekend at the lake house. The house was perfect for our two families. In warm weather, the yard, beach, and lake are great fun - be sure to bring whatever water equipment you need. Also, there are not a lot of food options nearby, so best to load up before you arrive. If you're looking for a quiet time on a beautiful lake, this is a great spot!
It was so nice to visit with two or my children and their spouses. So good to get away. Loved the view of the lake with the fall foliage. The house was charming and clean, with room enough for us to spread out and relax, talk and play a few games and eat together on the large kitchen table. Owner returned emails promptly. Would stay again and would definitely recommend if you are looking for peace and quiet.
We (2 couples and 4 children aged 4-7) really enjoyed our stay here. This was an ideal choice for a quiet family vacation with young kids: the house is right on the water, has an ample flat, grassy lawn, a private beach with sandy area extending well into a warm, shallow lake perfect for young swimmers, and a cozy kids' bedroom with night lights, 4 bunks and a double bed. Minor quibble - the upper bunks have no railings, so if your kids are young and/or squirmy in their sleep, bring some sort of railings (I improvised one on the spot using PVC pipes and kayak tie-downs), or an inflatable bed rail (like Shrunks brand). The master bedroom was spacious and comfortable, and the large windows were great. We fell asleep to the Perseid meteors streaking over the lake. Bathrooms were all clean, well-stocked, and felt like-new. The large walk-in shower in the master bath was beautifully done, and at 6'4" I didn't have to stoop my head down to wash my hair as I often must in showers. The kitchen has a really excellent gas stove and a decent amount of counter space, and is fairly well stocked, although I could have used a few more kitchen implements, for example basic kitchen tongs, and there were plenty of mugs, tumblers, and stemware but no juice glasses. Again, it's a minor quibble.
The neighborhood (at least during our stay in early August 2016) was very quiet. It's in a private development with unpaved roads, so there is no fast traffic zooming around, and the scene at the lake seemed fairly mellow, with only a handful of jetskis and motorboats. You will have to bring or rent your own paddlecraft (we rented kayaks from a place in New London), but the lake is a pretty decent paddle, albeit a bit breezy, and there are a few interesting little coves to explore. It's fairly shallow, warm, and very weedy, but I managed to find a few rocky areas just north of the house that yielded a few bass and a bunch of yellow perch.
The owner, Joe, was very friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely interested in sharing the place with us. When I texted him with questions during our stay, he responded very promptly, and when I informed him that the garbage bin out back was full upon our arrival, he had it taken care of within a few hours. I would definitely consider returning to this property, and I would recommend this place for a comfortable, quiet, outdoors-oriented vacation with family and/or close friends.
Visited Joe's lake house in early August 2016, had a beautiful day, so we started swimming immediately after unpacking. The lake is clear and has a mostly sandy bottom for about 15-20 ft out, after that it's a little mucky with some weeds with spots of clear muddy areas. Lake is shallow, maybe 6ft deep at 100ft away from shore, perfect for all of the kids we had with us (3-7). Pictures of the house are spot on, open concept, it looks great and the furniture is comfortable. The kitchen layout is efficient and the appliances look brand new, all worked flawlessly. The beds and linens were comfortable, kids loved the bunk beds. The three full baths and the bedroom layout made it easy for the two families to enjoy our stay. Two and a half days of rain made the trip a little challenging but swimming in the rain was fun and the kids keep busy with movies, games and some toys. The driveway and lawn where not a problem at all during our stay. The association offers some hiking trails and there is a state park down the road if you want more. Once the rain had gone everyday was spent in the water, house has great yard to sit or play outdoors. The fires in the evening where great for s'mores. Gas grill on deck was great for dinners and the deck is nice to overlook the lake and relax. Great time and great house Thanks Joe
