I live in the Berkshire downs, with my husband, my horses and my dog....and sometimes my young adult daughters!
I run a little holiday rental business, with flats in London, the Alps and Portugal, and 2 houses in the South of France.
I have been renting our houses in France for the last 7 years.
Darian Day purchased this chateau / country house in 2002
We 'fell' onto this house, we met the vendor on a flight to Nimes, when we first came out to research houses in France...actually simply looking for a holiday house for ourselves...having seen many properties which needed a 'tweak', we opted for a complete restoration..this house, and the smaller one opposite were complete ruins, and we have gently restored and rebuilt them to the rather fantastic places they are now. We just love the hamlet, cycling around it or walking...lunching at the local bar, playing boules or tennis etc....it is a truly peaceful wonderful spot.
Endless! Peaceful, but plenty to do in surroundings, large and airy in summer, warm and wonderful in winter...masses of space for large family groups or big birthdays/reunions..... too many benefits to mention...but the beautiful town of Uzes probably tops the lot!
This is a wonderful place for a holiday getaway. The house is huge and beautiful. All the rooms are light and airy, well equipped, comfortable and clean.
It feels as if you are on a retreat in a large villa. Everything is provided for your comfort and joy. Fully equipped and large kitchen; two patios to choose from for outdoor dining; grapes hanging from the patio roof to pick and eat at your hearts desire! There's also a large indoor dining table, two living rooms, bathrooms all over the place and a feeling of grandeur everywhere. It's tastefully decorated and comfortable.
Outdoors there is a crystal clear swimming pool with absolute privacy for exercising or just lazing beside. There's also Ping Pong and a trampoline. Fun for all the family!
I had a thoroughly enjoyable time and would revisit Le Mas again and again.
This property is so beautiful, spacious, cool and incredibly well equipped. We wanted for nothing. The owners themselves were incredibly helpful with things we needed in order to make the house even more child friendly and with many suggestions for visits during our stay. It was immaculately clean and had enough room so that our 3 families, all with children never got under each other's feet. We enjoyed days by the pool and days visiting local towns. For children there was a water park, pony rides, kayaking and an adventure park all within approx 15 mins drive. The grounds were discreetly maintained during our stay and cleaning/ beauty treatments were available during the week. All I can say is that one week was not enough. We have already booked to go back for two weeks next year! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful spacious house. The location is in a small peaceful hamlet surrounded by beautiful views and vines. The pool was a bit hit with the children.
I was part of a large group who took the Le Grand Mas and Le Petit Mazet next door. Our stay could not have been nicer: the properties are beautifully decorated, with very generously sized bedrooms and bathrooms. We were superbly well looked-after, and it was with a heavy heart (and a full stomach) that we all left at the end of our stay. We wished that we could have stayed longer – if only to perfect our table tennis and do more even more lazing by the pool. The properties are set in gorgeous countryside, but so busy were we enjoying the Mas, that we didn’t take much time to explore the surrounding area. It’s an excellent reason to plan a return visit. Thank you so much!
I just wanted to say a big thank you for making our stay so perfect. The house was totally gorgeous and had that personal quality touch that is often missing from rentals. Nothing was too much trouble and the house was wonderfully equipped. The amazing back drop and landscapes framed by the lavender and orchards. I'm pretty sure we will go back and have told all our friends. We loved the recommendations you gave us in the book for activities and restaurants, but equally loved hanging out at the house and relaxing by the pool. 5 star!

Have just returned from 3 weeks at Le Grand Mas - what a wonderful holiday! The house is fabulous, all the rooms were lovely and our group of 11 was very comfortable. The kitchen was superbly equipped with plenty of fridge space (for the wine and beer mostly!) and the bathrooms are of a very high standard.
The house is in a beautiful part of France with lots to see and do (the Saturday market at Uzes is a must and the Haras National stud horse show was quite an event too, not to mention the Tauros doing the rounds of the local town arenas.) Kayaking on the Gardon, the coast within easy striking distance, as are Avignon and Les Baux.....never a dull moment, but honestly the house and pool are so lovely that it was hard to muster the enthusiasm to go anywhere but to the pool loungers and bask in the hot sun being occadionally fanned by the Mistral. (Must also just recommend a visit to the village of Lussan, North of Uzes. It was a lovely drive from the house and although there is not much there apart from restaurants and a charming Poterie, it is the most stunningly beautiful village ever.)
We have had many holidays in France over the years, and can say without doubt that this is by far the nicest house we have ever stayed in and the first that we would be tempted to re-visit in the future. Here's hoping.
The property is 15k from the beautiful town of Uzes, with it's palace, cathedral and busy saturday market.
The house is in a small farming hamlet, with vines, sunflowers etc growing behind, and plenty of 'route blanche' for cycling or walking, there is a riding establishment very close by, and a communal tennis court. There are 2 family friendly bar/restaurants a hearty bike ride or short drive away, or the many and varied eateries offered by Uzes. Golf, kayaking, go karting, quad biking are all within a 20/30 min drive away. It is an extremely peaceful and quiet location.
Other Activities: kayaking quad biking go karting
Golf: courses at Uzes and Nimes, as well as Avignon and Montpellier. 2 half sets of clubs available for use
Ski: Mont Ventoux an hour and a half away. Good for a fun day with small children, with tobogganing and little slope to play on. More serious skiing 2/3 hours away
