Come to the Loire Valley and stay in a beautiful stone manor house of the 17th century, beautifully and lovingly restored by its owner, a famous English Decorator. The village itself is a protected site, with the lovely local stone, known as tuffeau, providing an evocation of earlier, more gracious eras. Enter the park through wrought iron gates and approach the Château de Félix, imposing and solid. Then enter into a world of 18th century intimacy and luxury, the perfect base to explore the history and the wines of the valley of the Loire. The reception area spreads over two floors and offers an elegant "Salon" living room with a fireplace and high French windows, beautifully draped. Works of art and elegant portraits grace the walls, while comfortable but stylish furnishings offer you an inviting space to relax and to enjoy your special time with family and friends. Off the living room is an elegant formal dining room with seating for 12. The kitchen is modern, and fully equipped. The view from its picture window looks out over endless vineyards, a typical Loire Valley sight. Down ancient stone stairs, the lower level has a wonderful entertainment room with more casual furnishings and a cozy fireplace, but equally appealing decoration.
On the upper floors, dispersed along two separate wings and two staircases, are 4 Bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, and their own fine sense of style and comfort. As in the reception areas, period portraits, and other works of art provide not only decoration, but a sense of the époque. Outdoors, you will find dining tables and chairs under a shady tree, and plenty of garden in which to stroll, as well as to wonder at the troglodyte caves, a feature of the area. Of course, there is wifi.
The nearby town of Saumur, known for its famous Riding School and for its magnificent Château dating from the 15th century, and recently re-opened to the public after a long restoration, also offers some wonderful restaurants and plenty of friendly bars and cafes, for summer strolling. You can rent bikes and ride alongside the Loire river, or continue along to Chinon, known also for its wine and its castle, as well as the Châteaux of Montsoreau, Villandry, Azay le Rideau, Blois, Chambord, and so many more.
More people? You can also rent the Petite Maison de Félix, with two more bedrooms, its own Salon and eat-in kitchen.
