We live in the Midlands, we have two children aged 16 and 12 plus Roxy the dog.We first visited Son Bou in 2005, when our youngest child was just one and we had a fantastic holiday , so relaxing and found it to be very family friendly we decided to break our rule of never going back to the same place and we rebooked for the following year.
After having another great holiday we had a mid life crisis and decided to for go our plans of a lovely extension and buy into the dream. We arrived home July and by October had bought our apartment.
And to this day we have no regrets, it's been fantastic watching our children enjoy the delights of Son Bou, both they and us having made lots of new friends and visited some lovely places.
We fell in love with Menorca and SonBou ticked the boxes for us.It's ideal for families, the complex offers all you need, there are 3 pools all in walking distance.
We chose the apartment as it is in a quiet zone and we loved the fact our children could play safely on the grass area with friends whilst we watched from our balcony.
Making coffee in the morning and sitting on the balcony looking over the gardens and onto the sea.
Watching the children play and just chilling out.
My husband & I plus our 3 children (2,5,14) all loved the resort of Son Bou and the apartment, it was clean and well maintained and in an ideal location. We visted Menorca in June 2007 just before my sons 2nd Birthday. Greg and Jo the owners of the property provided us with lots of information about the resort, how to book a car, where to eat and they even arranged for a birthday cake for my son.
Nothing was too much trouble for them, they also arranged our transfers to and from the airport.
The apartment had DVD's, playstation and games, books and loads of inflatables for the kids to take to the pool, they thought it was fantastic.
We ate out a number of nights and thanks to gregs reviews on the places they had eaten (which can be found in the guide left in the apartment) we had some great meals.
The shops and the beach were just a five minute walk away but far enough for there to be no noise at night.
As soon as we came back we booked again for July 2008.
One of the most relaxing and best holidays we've ever had.
Only a short flight from Switzerland, we landed in Mahon and were on the beach an hour later. The apartment is in a great location and is well equipped and comfortable. We enjoyed having our meals 'el fresco' on the front balcony.
We were there in the low season and enjoyed the continuing warm weather, great beaches and restaurants without the crowds. Menorca is a great island, easy to get around, many interesting, historical places to see and visit, as well as some great walking and bird watching. Greta place for a family holiday. Our 7 year old daughter enjoyed it as much as we did. Greg and Joanne provided really helpful and useful information and we are very grateful to them for a great holiday. Thank you very much.
The apartment had everything we needed for our stay, with lots of nice additional touches like toys, books, DVDs and pool inflatables for our children. Also picnic things such as cool bags, ice packs and lunch boxes. There was a high chair and travel cot provided for our little girl which cut down on the amount of stuff we needed to bring from home. We stayed at the start of the season so the complex was quiet, which suited us with small children. There were 2 pools just minutes walk from the apartment and the beach was just 10 mins walk away. We found the food in the restaurants quite limited- a lot of fast food and everything for the children is served with chips but the kitchen in the apartment was well equipped and there was a supermarket close by so we also cooked a few times. We got lovely fresh croissants and bread from the nearby bakery too. The beach bar/restaurant was lovely - yummy fish and great cocktails. We sorted car hire out for a few days to explore the island which was easier than expected and worked out much cheaper than doing it on line before our holiday. However as it was low season there wasn't a problem with availability. Greg and Joanne gave us lots of info before our trip and were really helpful in booking transfers from the airport which made our arrival hassle free. The info folder in the apartment had loads of useful information. Would definitely recommend this apartment and Menorca on the whole, particularly if you are travelling with very young children. We had a fantastic holiday.
Greg and Jo were very helpful and quick to reply with all query's.
On arrival we were very pleased with the appartment - clean, tidy, welcoming, a home from home!
We have 2 boys aged 10 and 12. They loved it!!
The resort complex is very impressive - 3 pools, resturants, a supermarket, a very nice bakery all very close to the appartment.
A short walk away is the beach - you pass more excellent resturants and several supermarkets and shops selling beach sundries.
The beach is lovely - the boys loved snorkellingand looking at all the fish!
The resort was busy (school holidays) without feeling crowded.
Greg and Jo informed us that while out there Menorca Vacations were our contact (you collect your key from them on arrival). The young lady, Tess, is excellent, helpful and very friendly. They hire good quality mountain bikes at only 14 euros for a full day - a bargain!
This is a really lovely appartment on a beautiful complex.
This was our first time in Son Bou, and we went during half-term. Greg warned us that the main San Jaime complex with the water chute pool/entertainment might be closed for the season, which I felt was really thoughtful of him, but as it happens with a 3 year old, we didn't feel the need for the water chute and doubted we'd need the entertainment. That was the case, there is a lovely pool with children's section in Zone 3 (we were in Zone 4-hope I've got those numbers right!) and our son loved that pool + the beach. The beach was further than I'd expected but that was because we had a young child who dawdled, even inspecting brambles! I think for adults it's a good 10 min walk.
The apartment was ideal, it was great having coolbags for picnics, toys for the beach, a lilo, fishing nets etc. Also a tv with dvds for kids to watch while waiting for their dinner! The apartment is clean and the info pack provided before we went was very informative. Greg arranged the airport transfers for us and they went without a hitch - in fact the driver gave our son a fun toy when we got there, so kind.
As it was very much the last week of the season, beware if you go then that the supermarkets are running down their stocks so go early to get the milk and bread in the morning. Our friends did hire a car and found a bigger better stocked supermarket in Alaior which was cheaper so that's worth considering - they'd hired their car for slightly more than we'd paid for the airport transfers, noting that price was probably cheaper as close to the season end.
We didn't feel the need to hire a car, and in fact had a lovely bus trip out to Mahon which my son thought was as good as the plane trip!
Weather was gorgeous, bit breezy at times, a couple of rainstorms but luckily they occurred at night.
We didn't go to the restaurants, our friends went once and said it was pricey so we took it in turns to cook which worked well. Our apartment kitchen appears to have every utensil you'd need to cook, together with a large fridge, and a decent size freezer.
There's a couple of playgrounds for the children, which were very handy in trying to persuade them to come off the beach.
I'd definitely recommend the apartment. Our friends were in zone 3, and I felt it was noisier over in that area. Also I preferred the layout of our lounge which was spacious compared to our friends' lounge.
Thank you Greg and Joanne for a lovely holiday!
just had a week in this apartment in june 2011 with my wife and child situated in a lovely location.a very clean apartment.all tha you need is avalible in the apartment as described. two swiiming pools within acouple of minutes of walking. the beach is about 5 to 10 mins walk away. there plenty of shops ,restertaunts and bars loacated together.theres also entertainment at night .cant wait for next year going to return.
Son Bou boasts the largest beach and is ideal for young children. There are plenty of sun loungers and water sports to hire .There are three beach bars to choose from. There is also a little duck pond at the beach and behind lies the nature reserve. Son bou centre consists of shops bars and restaurants, the shops range from seaside bucket and spade to more upmarket, plenty of supermarkets and a chemist. The bars and restaurants are family friendly and most have high chairs.
