Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Cedar Key - The Ida Belle Cottage

Beautifully Furnished 2 Bedroom Cottage with Wi-Fi, Satellite TV, Best Location!

Coastal Cottage in the heart of downtown Cedar Key! This historic home has graced 1st Street for 90 years. A classic Cracker home, there are two immaculate, beautifully decorated bedrooms (one queen, one full) and one full bath. HGTV's Coastal Collection Paint highlights the vaulted ceiling, wainscoting and original doors. All brand new furniture, TVs, and mattresses/linens. The breezy wraparound front porch with locally made adirondack chairs makes an ideal spot for people watching, reading, sipping tea, or just relaxing.

The Ida Belle Cottage was once home to Mrs. Ida Belle Davis, who raised her family here. Though Mrs. Ida Belle is no longer with us, her family continues to live and work in Cedar Key. When you enter the house, don't forget to look on the wall just to your left, a little tribute to the cottage's namesake is there for your enjoyment. A true Southern woman, she would want you to stay and be comfortable. Most of all, she would want you to see Cedar Key the way she did--from the little cottage on 1st Street.

Suitability:
  • children welcome

About Anne Young

Our family has grown up on the water in this area. Starting off fishing and crabbing, our lives on the water have brought us to Cedar Key for the last 20+ years. Jon and Shawn own and operate Southern Cross Sea Farms, a wholesale/retail clam business here in town. Caryn owns and operates Pelican Realty just around the corner. Jenny is a music teacher. We love Cedar Key and always want to do what we can to protect it.

Why Anne Young chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

Though we already live and work on the island, we felt a push to preserve a classic Cracker house that had so much history behind it. In a time where everything new is often the most desired, we wanted to share a bit of the glorious old with newcomers to Cedar Key. The island's unique charm comes from an eclectic mix of old and new. In offering this home away from home, we hope you will find yourself as enchanted as we are with a lovely old cottage. If only walls could talk...The Ida Belle Cottage would have some incredible stories to tell. Write your own story here on the corner, if you wish.

What makes this cottage unique

Sweet little cottage with just enough room for 3-4 people right smack dab in the middle of the historic area of Cedar Key.

Very clean and well equipped, beds were comfortable and so was the family room furniture. I could have slept on the couch!

All linens provided. Condiments and coffee were on the shelf. Soap for the washing machine and laundry basket provided too. You can pack light, but you might want to bring your own shampoo.

It is no longer yellow, it has been painted white, in case you have trouble finding it.

GREAT PLACE TO RELAX AND UNWIND

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was very relaxing while the location is close to everything. We were just a few minutes from downtown and from the pier. Several restaurants were within 5 minutes walking distance from our front door. The porch has a swing, chairs, and a table. With the wrap around porch, there was always a place to sit and enjoy a breeze. Many of the surrounding accommodations are attached housing where you have neighbors and shared facilities. Our stay was quiet with the ability to draw shades to block out light and noise. Fishing from the downtown pier and having kayaks nearby for rent was also a big plus. Would recommend this accommodation to everyone.

Perfect location!

The place was clean and neat.It is located in a central location. We really enjoyed the town and we were able to walk to everything. The bathroom is not for anyone over 200 pounds because the bathroom is tiny.

Historic House in Historic Town

  • 5 of 5

The history of Cedar Key is fascinating and there is no better home base to experience Cedar Key than the 1920's Ida Belle cottage. For our previous visit, we stayed in a cookie cutter condo; this was so much nicer in every way. The cottage has been completely renovated with AC, a modern kitchen, comfy furniture and a big screen TV, so we didn't exactly rough it like Ida Belle. It's a five-minute walk to restaurants, beach, boating and fishing. We will be back.

It's just perfect for walking wherever you want to go and we are so pleased that you found it a great alternative to a condo. We always appreciate hearing from our renters. Do call us again next time you make it to the island! Kind regards, Caryn Stephenson, Owner

Weekend

We were there for a weekend art festival, and it suited our needs. It was clean and looked just like the photos, and was a block away from the show, which was convenient for us.

Ida Belle Cracker Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is a delightful, small 2 bedroom treasure. Its location is right in the centre of everything in Cedar Key, and for such a small town, there is much to explore. The kitchen is well-equipped, the beds and bedding lovely. The porch is a terrific place to relax and watch the world go by on the street below. Sunsets are a 3 minute walk to two different locations, and sunrises can be seen from the porch.

It was spotless when we arrived, and the owner was available if we needed her.

There are several good restaurants within walking distance, and thw downtown main street, which has several shops and art centres is a block away. And the wharf, which has more restaurants and shops is a 5 minute walk.

Nearby there are many hiking trails and historical areas to explore, so even after 8 days, we left many things undone.

Overall, a delightful town and the cottage is great.

Owner's Response: Hi Mark and Dale! Thank you so much for the kind review. We really appreciate your taking the time to tell others about your experience. You two certainly fit in quite a bit while you were here! One of the great things about Cedar Key is that so many things vary with the season, it just makes it a little different no matter when you come. One opportunity that requires just a bit of planning is a boat trip to see the Seahorse Key Lighthouse. It's only open five or six weekends a year, but is well worth the trip. I certainly hope to see you again next time you get to the island. Safe travels! Kind regards, Caryn Stephenson, Owner
