Coastal Cottage in the heart of downtown Cedar Key! This historic home has graced 1st Street for 90 years. A classic Cracker home, there are two immaculate, beautifully decorated bedrooms (one queen, one full) and one full bath. HGTV's Coastal Collection Paint highlights the vaulted ceiling, wainscoting and original doors. All brand new furniture, TVs, and mattresses/linens. The breezy wraparound front porch with locally made adirondack chairs makes an ideal spot for people watching, reading, sipping tea, or just relaxing.
The Ida Belle Cottage was once home to Mrs. Ida Belle Davis, who raised her family here. Though Mrs. Ida Belle is no longer with us, her family continues to live and work in Cedar Key. When you enter the house, don't forget to look on the wall just to your left, a little tribute to the cottage's namesake is there for your enjoyment. A true Southern woman, she would want you to stay and be comfortable. Most of all, she would want you to see Cedar Key the way she did--from the little cottage on 1st Street.
Our family has grown up on the water in this area. Starting off fishing and crabbing, our lives on the water have brought us to Cedar Key for the last 20+ years. Jon and Shawn own and operate Southern Cross Sea Farms, a wholesale/retail clam business here in town. Caryn owns and operates Pelican Realty just around the corner. Jenny is a music teacher. We love Cedar Key and always want to do what we can to protect it.
Anne Young purchased this cottage in 2015
Though we already live and work on the island, we felt a push to preserve a classic Cracker house that had so much history behind it. In a time where everything new is often the most desired, we wanted to share a bit of the glorious old with newcomers to Cedar Key. The island's unique charm comes from an eclectic mix of old and new. In offering this home away from home, we hope you will find yourself as enchanted as we are with a lovely old cottage. If only walls could talk...The Ida Belle Cottage would have some incredible stories to tell. Write your own story here on the corner, if you wish.
Walking distance to everything, easy to find, management lives on the island.
We found the house to be clean, well kept, quiet and charming. It was centrally located, on a quiet street, within walking distance to the grocery store and Tony's Seafood Restaurant (which has the BEST tasting clam chowder). The dock street area was nearby and had a variety of restaurants and bars. The Island Hotel has excellent food, with great service. A perfect vacation spot to celebrate a 45th anniversary.
Sweet little cottage with just enough room for 3-4 people right smack dab in the middle of the historic area of Cedar Key.
Very clean and well equipped, beds were comfortable and so was the family room furniture. I could have slept on the couch!
All linens provided. Condiments and coffee were on the shelf. Soap for the washing machine and laundry basket provided too. You can pack light, but you might want to bring your own shampoo.
It is no longer yellow, it has been painted white, in case you have trouble finding it.
Our stay was very relaxing while the location is close to everything. We were just a few minutes from downtown and from the pier. Several restaurants were within 5 minutes walking distance from our front door. The porch has a swing, chairs, and a table. With the wrap around porch, there was always a place to sit and enjoy a breeze. Many of the surrounding accommodations are attached housing where you have neighbors and shared facilities. Our stay was quiet with the ability to draw shades to block out light and noise. Fishing from the downtown pier and having kayaks nearby for rent was also a big plus. Would recommend this accommodation to everyone.
The place was clean and neat.It is located in a central location. We really enjoyed the town and we were able to walk to everything. The bathroom is not for anyone over 200 pounds because the bathroom is tiny.
The history of Cedar Key is fascinating and there is no better home base to experience Cedar Key than the 1920's Ida Belle cottage. For our previous visit, we stayed in a cookie cutter condo; this was so much nicer in every way. The cottage has been completely renovated with AC, a modern kitchen, comfy furniture and a big screen TV, so we didn't exactly rough it like Ida Belle. It's a five-minute walk to restaurants, beach, boating and fishing. We will be back.
We were there for a weekend art festival, and it suited our needs. It was clean and looked just like the photos, and was a block away from the show, which was convenient for us.
