Oakhill is just a mile or so up the road with its award winning pub, the Oakhill Inn where they serve delicious home cooked food in a very relaxed pub setting and offer some fabulous local cider and ales.

The Mendip Inn is also located a mile in the other direction at Gurney Slade. It is a contemporary pub that offers an a la cart menu, great Sunday lunches and a good vegetarian selection. The local post office is also located at Gurney Slade.

A local secret is Mr Gillard in his converted ambulance, who can deliver you all of your groceries to your front door every Wednesday.

Tesco’s is in Shepton Mallet, while Waitrose and Morrisons are within easy reach located in the nearby historic city of Wells.

There are plenty of villages, towns and sites to keep you busy within Somerset. Just to give you a taster, Glastonbury is a hippy town full of colourful characters and eclectic shops, a trip up to the Tor is a must with stunning views over the Levels and surrounding countryside. Historic Wells is our smallest city, the cathedral is breathtaking and the markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays offer you lots of local fare. Bath is only a 30 minute drive and is famed for it's historic Georgian architecture and Roman Baths. Frome is easily reachable for something vintage and unique, Catherine's Hill is like a trip back in time with it's vintage shops, mixed with local artisans and delicious cafes and restaurants. Our website offers a comprehensive guide with lots of hidden gems, that only the locals know about to give you a true taste of Somerset!

About Monique Leonard

Our family have lived overseas for many years and came to Somerset by chance in 2010 and can't quite believe our luck. It's such a beautiful area with so much to do and see, we just love it!

Monique Leonard purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Monique Leonard chose Oakhill

Church Cottage was in a very sorry state when we first acquired it, but after a thorough renovation it now shines and is ready to be enjoyed and shared with our visitors to this stunning location.

What makes this cottage unique

Church Cottage emulates peace and quiet due to its rural setting though close enough to the many fabulous attractions in the surrounding area.

First class, clean, well equipped and comfortable cottage.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (2 adults and 3 children) had a wonderful stay in Church Cottage. The cottage was so well equipped, simply everything you could need for your stay had been thought of and provided. So clean, tastefully furnished and decorated and very comfy beds.Thoroughly enjoyed the garden too and loved having breakfast outside each day on the patio watching the sheep!! Great views from all the rooms. Would love to go back and stay again maybe when it's cooler and make use of the lovely open fires! Thank you for providing a lovely, relaxing accommodation in which to explore Somerset from.

Property was beautiful. Beds amazingly comfortable. Every thing to make an enjoyable stay provided down to cling wrap and tinfoil. Great retreat after day of sightseeing. Plenty of country walks around property. Well located for day trips. The church is worth a visit. Owner very easy to week with. Highly recommend.

Beautiful house, amazing location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for three nights, 3 adults, one child, two small dogs. Everyone loved it. From the sheep outside the door to the fresh Somerset air, the location is fabulous. The house is simply lovely, I could write a novel in the snug! Easy access to local shops and restaurants, fish and chips are excellent and the designer outlet at Kilver Court was a lovely surprise. Really hope to go back and stay for longer next time!

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage and location were beautiful, with a great view from all bedroom windows. There was a lovely field with sheep and rolling hills in front of the cottage and nearby public walkways. The cottage was comfy with plenty of space for our group of five adults and was kept very clean. We really enjoyed the fireplaces, thank you for the wood and providing all the amenities we needed. If we are ever visiting this area again we will be sure to stay here!

A wonderful, well-equipped country cottage in the beautiful Mendip hills

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cosy, beautiful Cottage, very well equipped (tabs for the dishwasher, towels for the dog, a yummy welcome package, ...), with a lovely garden that is safe for the dog, and great views. Very convenient for Bath and other trips. We had a great time and enjoyed the English countrylife!
