This lovely modernised heritage home sleeps 19 adults plus a Z bed is available to take it to 20 adults and 8 of our bedrooms can take an infant in a cot or two in some of the large rooms so we can accommodate really large families and parties and changeover days can often be flexible to suit your needs.
Features 6 double bedrooms, 1 twin and 3 singles and there is a smaller extra room too on the top floor that would take two cots or there is room in there for the Z bed.
There are 6 wcs, 2 bathrooms and 2 shower rooms.
This period property has many original features and well located for days out in Stamford, Peterborough, Cambridge and Rutland and close to Ferry Meadows country park and well positioned for walking, cycling and shopping and days out.
This used to belong to the Duke of Wellington's Great Grand Daughter at the turn of the century and also was home to a diplomat and spy novelist called William Le Queux who used the study here for a time for writing best selling spy novels at the turn of the century.
This home provides spacious warm accommodation throughout and has been largely unchanged for over 100 years until the recent renovation but all the lovely original features remain such as the servants bells from the main bedrooms and reception rooms and the riders bell on top of the house near the riders riding block for the Gentlemen to announce their arrivals to the coachhouse annexe at the rear are all intact.
There are Lovely lawns and trees and space for children to play and the large front oak riding field gate can be closed for peace of mind.
It is set in a lovely stone village location but very close to amenities and has good road links from the A1 and also bus routes and Peterborough main railway station whcich is only 4 miles away which has a line to and from London Kings cross in only 44 minutes.
(many villagers commute to London from here)
The house accommodation being so large is actually not only very lovely but also represents very good value for money when families get together or businesses use it for team building meetings and is far better value than any hotel and much more homely and more comfortable too.
I have lived in this area for over 10 years and able to assist with any local knowledge the best I can to make your stay more welcoming.
Mr C Hussey purchased this chateau / country house in 2005
Spacious, Beautiful and Well located in a quiet conservation village, Close to lots of amenities and room for even the largest of groups and Great value for money considering the price per person per night.
Spacious and beautiful throughout with lots of original features with many modern comforts too. Wifi in most of the rooms. Aga for great home cooking. Large lawns to play on. Lots of outdoor furniture for entertaining and coal fires for the cooler times of year. We also have 2 Xbox 360 games consoles with a selection of games for the kids and big kids too for entertainment on wet days and BT Freeview with BT sport.
Stayed here at the beginning of Jan 2017 for the second year in a row. Cedar House is beautiful and has everything you need in it for a really comfortable weekend. Plenty of space for the 17 people we had, even space for us all to sit around the dining room table.
Would definitely recommend this place and Colin is fantastic- always very responsive and helpful.
We picked the location for being more or less central for our various family members, and accepting dogs! My first impression was that Colin, the owner, was very good at replying promptly to emails- always a good sign.
The house looked fantastic in the photos and it really lived up to them. Plenty of space to spread out and find some peace and quiet if required, and just so much interesting space to explore...3 days just was t enough to do it justice.
I was tempted to this place was dreadful, don't go there, just to put people off so that it is available next time we want to visit! This is a real gem.
The Cedar House provided a wonderful residence and location to celebrate a 70th birthday and also Christmas with family and friends.
It suited everyone from 1 yr old to 70 and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
We will be back!
We came here for a long weekend in August for my husband's 60th birthday with family and friends. This is a lovely old house, very tastefully modernised and clean. A big enclosed garden for the children and dog to run around in. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and lots of facilities to keep everyone happy, from a cupboard full of games to two TVs and an Xbox. There's a small playroom with some toys, and in the garden is a BBQ and two playhouses with outdoor toys. In the house we found there was so much provided. There was even washing up liquid and the tea, coffee and sugar canisters were already filled up for us. Great starter pack of bread, milk etc. and also a bottle of fine wine. We had the most wonderful weekend here. Our ages ranged from 2 to 91 and everyone loved it. While you're here it's worth a visit to Ferry Meadows to take a boat out on the lake and in Stamford it's a real treat to have a meal in the courtyard at The George. Thank you so much to Colin for a very enjoyable stay.
I rented this house with a large group of University friends as an informal reunion and it could not have been better. The house comfortably slept the 12 adults and 7 children and we weren't fighting over bathrooms with plenty of baths and showers to go around.
The house is beautifully restored with two living rooms plus a dining room and kitchen on the ground floor and then the bedrooms and bathrooms on the two upper floors. We made good use of the kitchen, which has ample storage space for food and drink plus the small table in the kitchen was ideal for quick kids snacks where we could keep an eye on them while cooking.
The kids also especially enjoyed the play structures outside as well as spirited games of hide and seek in the multiple rooms. We walked around the small village where the house is located but we were really more interested in catching up with everyone so spent much of the long weekend in the house.
The owner was very helpful and ready to answer any questions we had plus being onsite meant he could respond quickly when he was home.
Overall I'd recommend this property to anyone looking to find a peaceful home to meet up with large groups of people.
We had an great time staying here over Christmas. The house is beautiful and has been tastefully and comfortably restored and furnished with the perfect balance between original features and modern facilities. The location is lovely, with easy access to many walks and nice places to visit not too far away. The owner Colin was extremely helpful and the welcome hamper provided was a thoughtful touch. My whole family could not recommended a stay here highly enough!
The property is situated in a delightful conservation village midway between Stamford town and Peterborough cathedral city which also has a direct 44 minute train service from and to London Kings cross which is rapid so access to the capital is very convenient.
Local attractions include Rutland water, Ferry meadows country park, Sacrewell Farm for children, Peterborough Lido provides one of the best 50 metre Olympic sized outdoor swimming pools in the UK and also has a great indoor pool adjacent which has a high diving pool too.
Stamford Georgian town has so much history to take in and shopping in the day and also an arts centre for music and a huge choice of restaurants and public houses for great nights out.
Peterborough has many national shops in its city centre and a huge John Lewis department store at its heart.
This property is situated next door to a great restaurant in the village (although undergoing refurbishment at present) but there are two other public houses within a 2 minute walk.
This property would equally suit a large family get together or just a large group of friends and please feel free to bring your cycles as we can make a locked store available to you if required and for dog walkers as there are lots of country walks to undertake here including Roman walks as we are situated where the second largest Roman building was ever built in the UK. There are clay pigeon and outdoor pursuits available closeby at Grange farm Wittering and for wet weather days Peteborough has a large multiplex cinema and two bowling alleys and two indoor childrens play areas. There are also many other theme pubs and also many restaurants around Peterborough city.
Cambridge City is only a short drive of 35 minutes away for another trip back in time with the famous colleges and unique shopping and there are also sports to watch such as Cambridge United football or Peterborough United and also roller skating and ice skating in Peterborough available too.
